Not really. Logan, despite his - admittedly justifiable - issues is nothing like Spike when it comes to his relationship with Veronica. Honestly, his dad is closer to Spike in that respect, being a murderous abuser.

Yeah they literally killed a bus load of school kids !

Proto is not the same as the exact same and I believe Rob Thomas himself said he used Spuffy as a basis for there relationship. Btw you know the stalking stuff was instigated by Fury because he was against Spuffy from the get go. Its why you go from The Door Step Scene in FFL to Spike sniffing her sweater in Shadow. Then again its on Joss for not keeping it consistent. He was the guy in charge but this is VM not Spuffy

Iv already seen the first 2 episodes and the floppy haired douchebag guy who got his stuff stolen already gives me Riley character vibes 😬 He's a regular already !

Also Dick, basically being a total cartoon isn't great writing wise. I thought he was a cartoon in the last season but he's so lucky no girl has reported him for harassment.

And the reason is pretty dark. An abuse victim did it to murder other abuse victims. I mean thats incredibly dark. Now don't spoil S3 and Veronica dad plot but I do kind of think if maybe he should've killed Veronicas dad too. He basically used his main character pass code to survive that 😄
 
If it wasn't for the goofiness, the series would probably be a much harder watch. It's certainly very much on the adult side when it comes to the tone of some of the stories, especially the arcs.

I think you have a point there. Her solving the murder mystery in 6 minutes was funny.

Btw not just Aaron Paul but Krysten Ritter and now I see Howard is her College Teacher. The Breaking Bad Universe is in this too I see 😄

Damn I'd love to have seen Saul show up 🥺

Perhaps similarly to Buffy, there are a few actors who appear on it who would later become significantly more famous for other roles.
@NotASlayer One unintentional goofy thing is the Fitzpatricks having a Northern Ireland flag in there bar. Now if they're as Irish as they claim. There is no way they'd have that flag in there bar 🧐
Im guessing the props team didn't know that and just thought it would ve a cool Irish thing to put in there bar 😄

That said the scene of them grabbing Veronica and the other girl was pretty scary and the way the other rival detective played acting fake drunk and taking a fake photo to fake sending to Keith to rescue them was a smart move

@NotASlayer @Cohen Im on the second half of S3 and you can definitely see the difference in quality.
Don't get me wrong its not outright terrible but its definitely different to the first 2 seasons.

Its more stand alones with no overarching thread which got wrapped up quite quickly.

The college rape story felt flat and the views on college feminists feels very dated.

I think what would've worked better is if Mac rather than some random girl the audience had never met before had been the one who'd been raped while Veronica was getting tickets . That would've given a bigger emotional connection to both the audience and Veronica whose trying to make it up to her friend and her guilt.

Piz as a both a character and love interest 😐 He really is the Veronica Mars version of Riley. Also the love triangle with Logan and the uninteresting Parker relationship 😐

Any character interest or development for Dick given what happened with his brother is well its not even brought up. Given his brother raped and tried to murder Veronica, you think she might have issues with him over that or it might gender some Emotion. But no we just get lines of him wanting to sleep with girls and basically he's a flasher and pretty much the same thing every episode.

Also them killing off the Sheriff given his antagonistic role in the last 2 years would be a big deal but it was almost a nothing burger.

So yeah my criticism is not that they didn't have good story material to work with more instead they're doing nothing with it
 
I think S3 did suffer from the lack of a season-long arc like the previous two.

Regarding Mac, well, they'd just done something similar to her at the end of the previous season. There's a problem with repeatedly doing similar plots to the same character.

Dick is basically shallow and stupid. A one-dimensional character. There's not a lot you can do with him without actually adding some depth; even if Veronica were to insult him it would slide off his Teflon coating of shallowness.

So I finished Season 3 and the ending felt really abrupt. So I checked online and apparently they only got the cancellation literally days before the episode aired and so had minimum time to make it ambiguous.

Also I read that the whole stand alone thing was due to them trying to please the Network (they'd moved Networks) which didn't work anyway
 
Yeah, apparently UPN ceased to exist after S2 which put them on its successor network The CW. That sort of change can be harmful, probably dealing with a new set of bosses who may not be familiar with the series and tone.

So Iv seen the movie and it is good fun. A little bit hell a lot of nostalgia bait given it was 10 years later which is noticeable on a binge watch but good for all that.
My favourite part was her Dad's frustration that she came back and didn't take the Law Job that she had offered.

No.

Okay, that may be a bit unfair. More specifically, it's not a good season of Veronica Mars. If you changed the name, and that of all the characters - and didn't know they were from VM - it might be a decent mini-series. But that's one of the problems; it's a streaming mini-series. It's one story told over a bunch of episodes in a short length of time, with no side stories. It's not Veronica Mars, not even S3, with no background arc with Mysteries of the Week along the way. Apart from the first episode, there are no diversions from the main plot. And there's another problem with that, but that's a massive last episode spoiler (and no, not a character death).

Iv seen the first few episodes and its ok so far. The introduction of new characters like Maddie and the night club owner are decent.
Keith Mars obvious dementia story line is hard but ok.

That said Veronica seems a very damaged woman in her 30s which to be fair given all she's been through seems normal though her doing drugs and being pretty nasty to Logan for proposing to her seem harsh.

No Mac though a lot of the other characters have minimal roles who are in it anyway which given that its only 8 episodes rather than the previous 22 is probably why and also why no side stories and no real comedy episodes to counter the darkness.

Now I know earlier in this thread I was critical of the goofy tone but now iv come to view it as a good way to counter the dark stuff.

Yes, without the comedic elements, the series is a little too dark. Now, if that had been true right from the beginning, it might have been different - though probably too dark for school-aged protagonists - but losing those elements is jarring.

The mini-series format I think harms the season a lot.

So Iv seen S4. Logans killing didn't bother me. What did was the cop out with the Dementia Storyline. Saying oh Keith just got his medication wrong is such a cop out and thats not how Dementia works anyway. I like to headcannon that he was just lying to Veronica as it was her wedding.

I did like the new characters Clyde and Maddie who seemed like she was heading for a darker turn, she quite literally watched a man be beheaded and wasn't exactly put off by it while stealing someone else's Family ring.

Now Iv subsequently read Rob Thomas reasons for essentially doing a reset on Veronicas character wanting to do Agatha Christie. The thing there is Poirot is a jolly Belgian who loves good living and life as well as being a famous Veteran Detective with friends like Hastings. Hes not a broken damaged loner that Veronica is by the end
 
Perhaps the biggest problem with it is that the villain wins.
