Veronica Mars is it any good ?

Hes just a pathetic little man whose gonna die in jail so he hasn't really won

Well, he (probably) killed Veronica's husband just after they got married, got the fame (infamy?) he desired and the majority of the public think he's innocent. You can easily make a case for him not staying in jail and he's probably got fans who will do just that. He achieved his goals.

I actually think as a season its better than 3 which was a mess but not as good as 1 and 2 or the film.

Iv seen some fans say they felt it was Rob Thomas giving them the finger. I don't think so. I think he was trying to do something different but it failed.

Im not a Logan fan so his death didn't bother me but it definitely bothered others from what Iv read online

I wasn't Logan's biggest fan, though I did feel he had matured a lot by S4. Which he should have!

S3 suffered from the move to college plus a new network plus a late cancellation.

I'm not sure Rob Thomas is to blame; the season was commissioned by a streaming platform and it follows a streaming mini-series format.

Reading some of this I am wondering if I ever watched s4?

I didn’t like season 3 so almost didn’t finish that, but I do remember watching the movie (though not sure what it was about anymore)

I do remember thinking that Veronica and Logan were a terrible couple by s3, but deserved each other to spare others from their crazy.

But anything s4 is a complete blank 🤔

That’s the movie, right? Cause I’ve a vague memory of that

Nope they get together in that. Season 4 is after the movie.

I should say another thing was them basically doing the reset on Weevil which was a shame.

He was the one who wanted to have Veronica travelling around. He didn't want her to be kept permanently in school which I can understand

It would be easy enough to do that without it being a mini series though.
I would love to know just how much influence Hulu had over format and story.

Generally speaking I'd yes and if your a Buffy fan there's a lot to enjoy since the main character is almost like a teen PI version of Buffy Summers. Bell is excellent, and the supporting cast and characters are also very solid, Keith's one of the best TV Dad. The quality is a bit up and down after S1, but there's still plenty to enjoy in the later seasons, S3 runs out of steam a bit at the end, but is overall a solid season IMO. The film was very enjoyable too.

I'm just surprised it was never a bigger hit because it was released in the early/mid-2000s and seemed ideal for the audience at the time.

Correct. Network intervention is what made season 3 feel so choppy. Originally, it was planned with 3 mystery arcs over 22 episodes. Which is why the Hearst Rapist arc was 9 episodes. They were going to do the murder that occurs in Spit & Eggs as a 6 episode arc, and then another final mystery as a 7 episode arc. The final mystery would have had Veronica investigating some of her friends as possible culprits. But then the new CW Network wanted it to be less serialized to allow anyone to “jump in” throughout the season. So they abandoned the last arc, dropped the episode count down to 20, and had Rob Thomas reshape the final 5 episodes as standalone mysteries.

Similar to season 3, I agree with you here. I believe Hulu wanted a streamlined “bingable” mystery over the format of the original series. Rob has stated if season 5 would have been greenlit, it would have been more like “Poker Face,” with Veronica traveling the country solving mysteries. This is why Logan was “sacrificed”
in the finale, as a means to push Veronica out of Neptune.

I think the other thing fans need to remember about the revival series is it came out years later when the cast and crew would have other projects on the go. Plus there was no guarantee it would be a success. The idea was probably they would do the odd season whenever they got time. They may still do another season someday. Its not impossible. They probably didn't want to do too much in case it never got off the ground.

I actually didn't mind the revival series too much, but that might just be because I came to the show later and didn't have the same attachment. As modern streaming revivals goes it was one of the more solid. It updated it but also stuck to some of the feel of the original, including some of the dark humour. Some people find it jarring because of it being a more polished streaming look, and miss the more offbeat, low budget network tv look I think. But you can't really go back and recreate that so much now. Network TV don't really order shows like Veronica Mars anymore, even less people would watch it now if it did is the reality.

Im the same l even prefer it to S3. For me the issue was more the cop out on Keiths Dementia. Its a mistake they got the medication mixed up was just.....
That's not how Dementia works !
They could easily save it by showing that Keith was lying to Veronica because it was her wedding day but didn't

That storyline was triggering for me. It came out the day we left for the beach for my mom’s 60th birthday. We had planned it because she was well into her dementia by that point. In fact, it ended up being the last holiday we had with her. So that was difficult. And I didn’t mind the cop out, because I don’t know if i could have handled losing Keith to that too 😂😂

Im sorry for your mum, you and your Cohen.

I think if they're gonna tackle a sensitive subject like this they've got to do it right. It was the same with Buffy having an abortion in the comics to which Whedon then copped out by having her be a robot by Andrew. That again was WTF.
If you're not gonna go all the way then don't go there
