Was Faith As Good As She Claims?

In bed, that is.

One of Faith's best scenes (incidentally played by SMG) was when she meets Spike while in Buffy's body. The whole "I have muscles you can't even dream of," very hot. I completely imagined that Faith was as good in bed as she claimed.

Then, Chosen came around, and Robin Wood asserted she had a lot to learn. This made a lot of sense, too. Faith doesn't stick with one partner for long, and constantly switching partners doesn't allow you the chance to learn what another person wants and needs.

So, what do you think? Is Faith as good as she claims, or does she just have an inflated opinion of herself?

Inflated opinion of herself. Definitely. I think she doesn't really know the difference between horny and 'good' at it, you know? (even tough, it always seemed absurd to me that it is possible to do it well or not)

I dig Faith and Im sure she wasn't bad...but come on, if you have to tell people you are great how great are you really?

I think Faith is trying to keep her reputation intact, how everybody sees her. If she'd say she's bad, it'd hurt her image that she'd trying to build.

Lol when I read what the thread was about I busted out laughing. No I don't think Faith is like this sex goddess that can satisfy every man on earth lol.

Now serious answer lol, I think Faith uses sex for control, its power. It's not about intimacy for her, its part of her mask. So being good at sex is one of the few things she sees herself as good at. It's where she has control.

You're right. With her it is definitely all about power and control.
Self confidence would have to be a prerequisite for a Slayer, so, call it confidence in her abilities, or just an inflated ego, take your pick. I do imagine that Faith's one night stand with Robin most likely wasn't any true example of her "mad skills." simply because she hadn't engaged in that sort of activity in several years and was almost certainly in no mood to drag things out in order to achieve maximum pleasure the way that she normally would have. On the other hand, I also believe that Robin Wood was using that line about her lack of skills because he didn't think that he was going to get any sort of repeat performance any other way. (And since Faith refers to him in the "No Future For You" arc as her ex, apparently one or the other of them didn't pass muster the second time either)

Xander sure seemed to think so. 😉

Like White Avenger said, it's all about confidence with Faith, she thinks she has to act a certain way to get people to like her, so it makes sense that she'd think the same thing about sex. She thinks that she has to prove to the men that she's a hellcat in the sack, otherwise, why would they want to be with her?

I've always thought that Faith didn't have a lot of confidence in herself or her ability to be a Slayer, and she proved this during S7 when she was put in charge. She was confused and indecisive and had to remind herself to be confident in her choices. She doesn't think she measures up next to Buffy, and this is why she went Rogue, to show that she was better than Buffy, because she chose what she assumed to be the winning side.

If Faith THINKS she's that good in bed, then I think she thinks that means people will believe her.

I'm not sure if Faith is *quite* as good as she says, but I sure do see her as being great! I wouldn't base my opinion on what Wood says, though. Like White Avenger said, I think Wood was saying that to let Faith know he wasn't just another guy. No one ever questioned Faith's authority sexually, and I think Wood knew that. So I think he was goading her. The way to really get her attention was to do something no one had ever done: imply she wasn't so great in bed as she thought. That got her intrigued, got her wanting to prove something to him, got her to be in it for a long(er) haul. Quite a smart move, if you ask me.

we may never know...

there's never an impartial opinion given by anyone about her 'skills' lol... we know Xander seemed to be impressed, but to be fair, he lost his virginity to her, so he has no basis for comparison at the time...

Since we need an impartial opinion of this, i will volunteer myself to fully grade her... this may take some time 😛

it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it lol

You're such a martyr for the cause!
It's possible that she never had any complaints so she thinks she's amazing... it's also possible people were too scared of her to say anything negative... Just a thought though. I would assume she was pretty good at least.

I believe that Faith is good at it, and that's why she uses it as a weapon and a defense mechanism. It's one of the only things she knows. She can't deal with emotional stuff, but she can deal with the sexual stuff, and that's where her "love 'em and leave 'em" philosophy comes from - sex is one of the only things she's good at, and that's why she uses it.

I always felt that Robin was just teasing her when he told her she had a lot to learn.

Yep, nobody ever could accuse Robin of being dumb. Sneakie, deceitful, and vindictive, maybe. But not dumb, and most definitely NOT prettier than Faith. Prettier than Clyde, maybe, but not Faith.

^ Lol, Tajana. 😉 (sw)

I thought this thread was about her redemption, lol. I was gonna go "She never claims she's a good person" ranting. 😀

So, I think she's pretty good in bed, but not the best. That's all I want to say. It's family friendly boards and all. 😛

Haha. NOPE! Not her redemption.😀 Maybe she was good just like you said, not the BEST.

Yep. I bet Buffy is as good or better than her. :D
Robin was definitely teasing her because of how she treated him after it happened, lol.

But, I don't know. She probably is as good as she claims.. she's a slayer after all. 😉

Sex is sex. I have never had complaints myself and I have had a bit of a love 'em and leave 'em attitude in the past (okay and a little bit at the moment to). Okay, there was the two guys that cried, but I'm not gunna get in to that here!

As far as I'm concerned as long as you leave inhibition at the bedroom door (or car door, or public door...) you're going to have a good time.

I don't doubt Faith would be a good lover, but she does strike me as someone that would be a bit selfish in bed, meaning that she might have a good time, but the partner might not. I don't think we can really count Xander as a satisfied lover, and Wood clearly wasn't impressed. Riley seemed to enjoy it, but she was in Buffy's body so I don't think we can count that either.

So yeah, I'm going to go with - it was sex, so it was probably good, but it can't have been to mindblowing as Faith seems like she was selfish in the bedroom.

I think that is pretty much the key issue here. Confidence is a huge factor, and Faith seems like the sort of woman who knows exactly what she wants, and how to get it. Egoism can be enticing in bed... 😉 In that respect the turn-on would probably be more psychological than physical... if that makes sense.
