I'm watching season 3 of Buffy and Faith for some reason appears to be older to Buffy in my opinion. I guess it has to do with the fact that she lives alone in a hotel room. But if she was the same age as Buffy wouldn't Giles or anyone for that fact think she needs "adult" supervision?

Faith is a year older. What make her feel older is probably that she's been taking care of herself o lot more than Buffy. Even if Buffy has taken on a lot of responsibility through her years. Which if you ask me is noticable a lot of the time. Faith kind of stay in the "rebel" phase.

Do you have citation of this? I would be interested in reading this. :)
I'm pretty sure she was younger than Buffy. As for adult supervision, I don't think Faith would have agreed with that.

I thought she was the same age. As she wasn't at school and had a tough family life I thought people just didn't notice her enough to bother with that, or maybe they did and she fought them off.

They tried to get her a watcher and that failed, can't see it going any better with anyone else.

Yeah, I don't think she would of agreed to "adult supervision" i guess. That kind of makes me feel a little bad for her. Ahh Faith I learn something new each time I watch season 3. lol

I don't think they ever said that Faith was older, logically she should be younger though, considering we are told that when it comes to being chosen, it tends to be the younger the better.

I was going to say the same thing :)
I always thought they were the same age as well. I thought Faith presented as older because of her background. Kendra seemed to be the same age or younger to me. They all would've been. Called relatively close together in time so I suppose they could be about the same age. It would have made the most sense to me for Buffy to be oldest with Kendra being a few months younger and Faith being a few mon the younger still.

In my head shes a year younger. And I dont know if theres any canon proof otherwise. But heres why:

a) it is not believeable to me that she is older because Eliza is actually 17 when she starts as Faith and Sarah is in her early twenties. So I can not believe that she is older then her.

b) if she were older her 18th birthday would have come before Buffy's on the show and the council would have given her the test before Buffy.

yeah I always wondered whether Faith had done that test

Good point, I'm sure faith would have pre warned warned buffy about the test, afterall she wasn't known for obeying the rules.

That's a very good point... I always assumed they were the same age, but that second point makes a lot of sense. Although Faith always seemed older just because of the lifestyle she led.

What I went with when I said that Faith was older is not canon. It's in a book (not sure which) that her birthday is mentioned. So I guess all we can do is guess.

A very logic point. However. Plot holes in the show are about as common as a dead vampire so it's not as easy as that. Do they mention Faith and the test together at any point? I don't remember. That would change things of course.

Charisma and Robia (played Jenny) are both born 1970. Yet their characters aren't exactly the same age. Nicholas is 6 years older than Sarah. Real age doesn't matter much when it comes to acting.

No they dont mention it so I assume she didn't get it before and because of what happened with Buffy we can assume she wouldn't have gotten it after. Maybe it is a plothole but its also a good reason to think Faith is actually younger.

To me it does matter though. It bothers me that they cast 30 year olds to play children. But thats a different topic. But in regards to Faith/Buffy Eliza looks so young in her first episode in comparison to the rest of them that to me its not believable she's supposed to be the older slayer.

THe 30 year olds to play children bothers me, too...But when it came to the main cast of Buffy, I always thought they did a really fantastic job at making them look the age they were supposed to be.
At the time that it was first on, I just naturally assumed that Faith was younger, though not by more than a year or so, that Buffy. Over the years since then, though, I had come to wonder. But in Season 7, in one of Buffy's speeches to the troops, she made the statement, "The younger, the better," referring to which Potential was the most likely, and Kennedy, who was almost certainly 18 or older (can't have Willow messin' around with jail bait now, can we?) made the statement that she was beginning to think that she was too old. That would seem to indicate, though we've never been told anything about how the actual Calling works, that there is a window between the ages of 15 or 16, when Buffy was Called, and 18 or 19, which would have been Kennedy's approximate age. If we accept that, and take into account that Faith is two "generations" later than Buffy, that would almost require her to be the younger of the two, by probably a year or so.

Unless, of course, and quite possibly, my calculations are of as much value and validity as a politician's promise, in which case, Faith is probably older than Buffy. Or the same age. Or younger.

Only Joss knows for sure.

Wasn't it Kennedy that mentioned anything about "the younger, the better"? I don't really remember Buffy actually saying that, but i do remember Kennedy saying something about it. I need to rewatch season 7
I had always thought that Faith was younger then Buffy. With the fact that most slayers were called around the age of 16, and Buffy had turned 18 that year. Though, I think the reason that Faith lived and did things by herself was that she did not really give out personal information about herself, not that the others really asked. As xfivebyfive pointed out, it does not mention Faith having been tested, which led me to believe that she was under the age of 18. Although this is all head-cannon, I have always been under this impression.

Seeing Red As I said in my next post it's not canon. But looking into it a bit more the information seems to come from "Go Ask Malice". I got no direct quote but this is what I've seen.

Faith was born December 14, 1980 in South Boston, Massachusetts, to an alcoholic mother. At the age of four, her abusive father was imprisoned for murder, and Faith was raised believing he had died. As a child, Faith played with her imaginary friend Alex.

as much as i love Go Ask Malice its not canon.
I think Faith was a year older. It was never stated but I just got the impression that she was. It's not really all the make up that made her seem older than Buffy either because in season 7 she didn't cake it on yet...she just seemed slightly older. Also, about slayers being called when they're young or whatever, we don't really know when Faith was called. Or do we? Was that ever stated? Heh.

It would be a massive fluke if faith was older, buffy was called at 15, so if faith was called at a later age she would have been 17/18+, which as we know is unlikely, albeit not impossible, just improbable.

Well Sarah was older than Eliza wasn't she? Eliza was 16 when she first played Faith I think. and I think Faith and Buffy are supposed to be the same age
