Was Willow really prepared to kill her friends

Personally, I wasn't really fond of the Dark Willow arc. But forget about that.
I found it kinda unbelievable that Willow wanted to kill her friends. I know she was in pain because of Tara's death, but going that far and wanting to kill your friends? It's not even their fault. She wanted to stop the pain in the world, but killing her friends over something that has nothing to do with them personally? Seem a little weird. Was she really going to kill them along with the entire world?

I adore every last thing about your current banner!
I would say deep down No since she didn't obviously....but the darkness in her was ready and if it wasn't for Giles, Xander it could of been done.

I think she was. I think that she was so angry that she wanted to destroy everything. It wasn't that she necessarily wanted to specifically kill her friends, but rather that in the moment her friends were not relevant. Only her pain, and stopping her pain mattered. That's why Xander was so important, he had to help her remember what else there was. I do fully believe that, without intervention, her pain would have triumphed and she would have destroyed everything.

Well, a thing that always bothered me with Willow (even tough I love her) is that she's unfair with her friends when she is unhappy.
When Oz left, she wasn't always nice with the others. There were a few occurences, but the only I really remember is when Xander was worried for her and she made fun of him living in his parent's basement. Then she accidentally hurt everyone with her misuse of magic. And that was at the time of innocent Willow.

Now you take the same story, but instead of making the lover leave, you make the lover die ==> worst.
Instead of just a misuse of magic, you put a real addiction to magic and a willing, conscient misuse of it ==> worst.
Willow was mad. Completely upset (which is more than understandable). Very powerful. She couldn't really think straight with all of that. The only one thing she wanted was revenge, and it was blinding. That's all she could see. "I can't bring Tara back so I will hunt down and torture the bastards who did that".

Add to the Dark Story the Evil Wicca's best friend. Best friend means support. Best friend doesn't support initiative of killing bastard. Best friend must get out of my way. Best friend won't? I'm going to have to kill her then. I don't think she wanted to kill her friends, she wanted them out of her way (or in her way but supporting her).

What bothers me more is the things she said to everybody when she was evil. I can't help but think "What an Evil Wicca Bitca!"

It might be a state of mind that you don't necessarily understand unless something similar has happened to you, but I'd agree that Willow was very powerful, out of control and her instinct was to lash out- not just at the people she held responsible for Tara's death but at the entire created world.

Willow was pretty much in a rage blackout at this point. I don't think she was capable of rationally thinking about her friends/the world at this point, all she could think about was the pain she was in and the anger toward the world she felt. I think she could have destroyed the world and killed all her friends in that moment.

You know, if she does it, she could kill them, then resurrect them! She has power to do both!

I'm absolutely sure Willow was ready to kill them. And anyone else who got in her way. Because she wasn't Willow. She was too taken by the magic. Just like any addict. They delve too far, and they're not themselves anymore. I've seen it happen to a lifelong friend of mine with a drug that begins with H. They get more and more into something, then promise they're off, but you can tell they're not. They become another completely different person. One who believes they're doing nothing wrong. I've known this guy for 21 out of my 23 years, and I have no idea who he was when he was on that stuff. He's been clean for a few months, but I can't trust him. Look how Tara couldn't trust Willow after what she did to her. And Willow saw no problem with what she did. Not at first, at least.

Willow wasn't the Willow we know and love. She was stuck on something powerful that completely clouded her. She couldn't see past the pain of losing Tara. The magic took over Willow. The hair, face, and clothing change was to distance the viewer from the redheaded, quirky nerd we know. She wasn't her. People addicted to things aren't themselves when they're using it.

(Now, if you read the Wicked Willow series of books, you'll see how it actually goes when she tries to kill her friends... I'd recommend them, but they're super depressing.)

I was really surprised by that fact, that she was ready, as it seemed, to kill her friends. But in the long run, I don't think she was. I think she was hurt, and didn't know what to do, and angry.. so she turned to one thing that she was good at. Magic. I don't think she was thinking.

I tend to think of Dark Willow along the lines of Faith going bad - neither really WANTED to be murderous necessarily, they were just way over the edge and couldn't control it. That said, the Dark Willow arc didn't do it for me and I thought it was kind of lame. "I'm in PAIN, so I must DESTROY THE WORRRRRRLD!!" Yeah-huh, ok. You do that, then.

Why not look at what really happened?
Willow started out practising, experimenting with magic. She started well, and was beginning to delve into the arts of wizardry. She seemed to be accepting the notion that there was evil, and she took that evil, accepted it, and was controlling it. Then along comes Tara, while Tara was good for Willow her her knowledge of magic was very one sided and it corrupted Willow. Willow began to follow Tara's lead, Willow began to believe that all magic is good, so what happened when Tara was killed? Willow got a bit angry, and in that split second the doorway was opened, The evil that once was controlled, now took control.
As it said, "Willow doesn't live here anymore."
So, Willow did live there but she wasn't in control of her body, and no, she didn't try to kill her friends.
Giles and the coven in Devon saw that, they gave her the power to rebuild herself. Why else give her a 'all you can devour magical smorgasbord', if they didn't trust her?

At that point, I think she was. I think that seeing Tara die the way she had put her in such a dark place that she was so angry that she was beyond reason, and she definitely would have murdered her friends if it hadn't been for Giles and Xander.

This is just my experience...

I've worked with a LOT of families where someone was dying.

Everyone grieves uniquely (all relationships being unique), but it isn't uncommon for a person who is grieving to lash out at the people they love most and even keep it up for a while...even, like, a year or two.

They just can't bear it. I think that if they felt the pain, they'd just fall apart, have a breakdown, whatever you call it. So they channel it into anger and they're just so full of rage that it has to go somewhere. It's almost always siblings, but can be directed elsewhere (e.g. a surviving parent.)

I've tried to help and succeeded. I've tried to help and failed. But, I've seen it. A lot. I get that.

But they just did too much too poor Willow.

It was bad enough that Willow switched sexualities, but okay, it's TV, I'll swallow that. Never liked Drugged Willow (yawn.) But Crazy-Evil Goth Killer Willow? No, thanks.

Willow was always near and dear to my heart and that was just too much pie crust for one bite.

The primal nature of the darkness had taken over, so I think she very well could have. Fortunately, she still had enough of the real Willow in her for Xander to get through to her.

I think some of you kind of miss the point here. If you remember well, at the beginning she did not want to kill her friends. She just wanted to kill the trio. If she wanted to kill her friends she wouldn't have saved Buffy. The magic that she got from the books at the Magic Shop it still wasn't enough for her to get REALLY bad. Sure, she was already black and stuff, but still not in the I'm-gonna-kill-my-friends-and-the-world mood.
That happened after she had 1 more sode of evil. That's why she wanted to kill Dawn too. (for the first time feelinf sorry for Dawn)
But at the end, yeah she would've killed them all. Tara was gone, she blamed herself for Buffy's suffering and wanted to send her back, Giles was to "bossy" and the others didn't matter... except Xander who stopped her. But it weren't for Gile's magic, he wouldn't have had a change either.

As Willows powers progressed she continued to get a little darker. Away went the school girl that was afraid to speak up in front of others and here came this incredibly strong woman who could use magic to do anything that she wanted. With that I think that she was so blinded by rage, and guilt that she wanted it all to end. She knew that the scoobies would try to stop her, so they quickly became her enemies. She was going to get rid of the pain and she didnt care about who was in her way.

It wasnt the fact that she had a little bit of good Willow left in her that helped it was all the magic that she stole from Giles. That magic had good in it, which was able to begin to stabilize her emotions more.

Well I think that she was never able to kill her friend, she just wanted to pnish Warren and co. Maybe she exaggerates but she was never be kill one of her friends! that wasn't one of her goals. On the contrary.
