I'm watching Firefly for the first time as I've finished my Buffy/Angel rewatch (which I'm considering making a thread about, but...)

I'm onto episode 4 now and I LOVE IT.

My favourite characters so far are Mal, Zoe and Kaylee. Kaylee seems to be the only member on the ship who is actually a good person (except Sheperd and maybe Zoe.) Mal is very mysterious and I just find his character to be so interesting. I love Zoe because she's...well, I think the only way to describe her character so far is to say "She's Zoe." Gina plays Zoe really well aswell.

I like Wash, he just really interests me and is funny, I've laughed out-loud more times because of Jayne though. I like Jayne but I want to know more about his background and why he's on the ship. His betrayal in Serenity just struck me as odd. I loved the scenes with River and Simon. Simon really loves her and he's kinda hot aswell. :3

Now, for River. I'm not sure whether or not I like her but right now, she isn't bothering me entirely. She seems to be a bit of a nutjob and I like that in my characters. We'll see as her character expands a bit more about her.

I like the stand-alone sort of feel to this episode, and it's good that they hold some sort of weight to the series while being a stand-alone episode about one issue or one job which I love about the show.

I love that Serenity, the episode is presented as an episode where no one is safe. - Kaylee is shot, Simon is put in harm's way more than once, Mal is nearly shot and Zoe is shot. I enjoy that they're showing it this way so far.

I'm only on episode 4 and will post more when I watch more!
 
First off - what took you so long! Firefly is an amazing series.

Second, it's going to be a fun ride for you. It's a great show and make sure to watch the movie, Serenity, last. It's the closing story arc for the entire series.

My wife, who generally doesn't care for sci-fi, likes Firefly. So yea - it's awesome.

I've never watched it. Should I? Right now I'm busy getting through the five years of Supernatural I've missed. 😀
 
Episode 4: (Writing this as I watch, pausing it when I need to.)

Loved the first scene! Kaylee and Inara are amazing :3

Jayne's an asshole, an awesome one though hehe

I can't stand the theme song 🙁

Simon seems sort of...I dunno, gay to me...

Both Jayne and Mal remind me a lot of Hamilton and Caleb (I know that they're played by the same person) yet Zoe doesn't remind me of Jasmine at all :S

That ship is super creepy! I LOVE IT!

Mal: Gone.

Summer Glau plays River amazingly! Simon is ridiculously gorgeous

God Inara just sounds beautiful, she's pretty yes, but her voice is just soothing :')

River's feet are weird...(I had to comment on this! :tongue3🙂

Zoe is Mal's right hand...soldier, right? She goes everywhere with him and it's weird. She's married to Wash!! 😕

I bet that new ship was probably mainly a set re-design of Serenity.

That body chain and the way River was looking up at it..Can someone say freaky?

THAT GUY THAT RAN AT JAYNE SCARED THE **** OUT OF ME, OMG.

Zoe: Not now dear. I LOVE YOU ZOE.

Simon: He's a real beast. There's a wonder you're still alive. Lol Simon. First time I've liked you this episode.

I love the whole underlying story about The Reavers yet we haven't seen one yet, it gives the whole story an air of mystery and a scary tone.

Zoe: You're scaring the women.

^ Why doesn't she consider herself a woman. Also, Kaylee seems to be pretty care-free so I doubt it'd bother her and the same can be said for Inara. River also seems too far gone to worry about that stuff aswell. Not to mention her seeing the bodies didn't bother her.

Inara: Just when I think I've got you figured out...

That is EXACTLY how I feel about Mal at the moment!

(this post is getting a little long, but I don't care lol, I'll keep going until I'm done 😀)

Kaylee: That was real pretty, captain. What you just said. (I love Kaylee.)
Kaylee: Besides, if I mess up...It's not like you'll be able to yell at me. (God, she needs more lines.)

The use of montage in this scene is AMAZING. When him and River wake up is a powerful moment. One of the best in the series so far.

Oh poo, alliance ship. :|

Mal: It may give the alliance boys the wrong impression.
Wash: Or the right one...
Mal: That too.

^ I love this dialogue. Really shows the commoradery (if that's the word I'm looking for) of Wash and Mal.

I hate that alliance guy, but I think I'm supposed to. Hm. I love Nathan in this part, his acting is just amazing. Him also not handing over River and Simon is very noble of him.

Douche: You've fought with captain reynolds in war.
Zoe: I've fought with a lot of people in war.
Douche: And your husband?
Zoe: I've fought with him too. (LOVE Gina in this part)

Zoe: We're very private people....
Wash: And her legs! (LOL Wash 😀)

River's smile is absolutely hilarious.

ALLIANCE GUY YOU ARE A DOUCHE, A DOUCHE, A DOUCHE AND OH, YOU'RE A DOUCHE, GO. AWAY!!!

that guy in the hospital room is scaaaary.

Nathan is a great actor. I love him.

That's the first time I've heard Summer happy on any of her shows (I never watched TSC) so that's awesome. She plays happy really well.

Does River ever get over that insane act? It's really unflattering :/ don't get me wrong, I love her it just makes Summer look kinda unattractive and I know she's really pretty so seeing her being able to show that and be happy a lot more, kinda like Kaylee could be good.

THAT GUY DIED RIGHT INFRONT OF THE COMMANDER...THAT SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME...Love it!

The ending is great visually and I love Jayne and Mal in this one. I sort of get the feeling that Wash, Zoe, Mal and Jayne are the core 4 with River, Simon, Kaylee, Inara and the priest taking up supporting roles, I could be proven wrong though.

Final Thought on episode 4: Great episode. The best so far and I really think the series is great so far. I don't dislike any character which is a first!
 
What a coincidence! I was just thinking of posting the very same thread. I bought the Firefly box set yesterday and watched three episodes. I'm really enjoying the show as well. It's just amazing. What struck me is how excellent the acting is, from all the cast members. There's not a character I don't like. My favourites so far would probably be Mal, Inara, Kaylee and Jayne. Mal and Inara I like for similar reasons - they're both very mysterious and intriguing. They both have a sort of protective bravado about them; Mal has his "I don't care", faux-selfish attitude that he puts out to hide how much he really cares, and Inara seems to me to put on this ultra-mysterious, ultra-sophisticated, ethereal mask. I'd like to learn more about her. As for the other two, Jayne is great entertainment value and serves a valuable role in the cast as representing a more morally dark viewpoint, and Kaylee is just adorableness incarnate.
 
That scene in Episode 5 with Zoe and Wash is Ah-mazing! Best thing so far about the series and this episode. Love Kaylee and Inara in this episode aswell so far ^.^

Mal's actions don't make much sense to me in Safe. Simon was the doctor of the ship and they fly off without him? I understand that him and River were taken but it just seems really stupid to leave without the doctor.

A witch Joss, Really? A witch? Can't get any more original can you?

Plus, I liked the girl who called her a witch, until you know, she called River a witch. (I love River more as the series goes on)
 
Opinions on Safe? I think so! (I'm racking up so many posts in this thread, I feel kind of quilty. :/)

Okay, I like the episode as a whole and especially the ending. It really puts a staple on the show of what it is.

"Why'd you come back for us?"
"You're on my crew."
"But you don't even like me, so why'd you come back for me?"
"You're on my crew...Why are we still talking about this?"

Simon is so damn sexy and I just can't...Yum.

Kaylee in this episode broke my heart, I love her and Zoe.

A minute and 30 seconds into Our Mrs Reynolds and I must say that Mal looks awfully pretty as a girl, and GO ZOE!!!

I want to stop watching cause I know it's all gunna end soon and I don't want it to end 🙁
 
Jaynestown was good, just better than Train Job but second worst. I loved Out Of Gas though, one of my favourites and possibly only just better than Our Mrs Reynolds. I love Kaylee!

The three of them fire like 600 bullets into the guy lol

Also loved the moment with River and Kaylee.

I didn't comment on Ariel! I liked it, definitely a great episode. War Stories is also very amazing.

I liked Trash. Good Mal centric episode and I thought Yosaffbrig was better in this episode, very interesting concept and I loved Inara in it.

Kaylee was also great and as was Simon. The moment in the end with Simon, River and Jayne was very awesome. "I can kill you with my brain."

7- Mal (I like him don't get me wrong just I dunno. :/)

This series is amazing so far. Moving on to The Message!
 
I loved the Message. I love Jon M Woodard and he was great in this episode.
