Watching Season 6 with parents

When Season 6 of Buffy came out, I was a married adult, so I didn't care but it does make me a little uncomfortable to watch movies/TV shows with sex scenes in front of my parents... LOL My dad has never really watched BtVS or Angel, but my mom does, and when she saw "Smashed" and "Wrecked" she was like "Wow... They're getting pretty graphic on there, huh?" 😉

Yeah, I never watch anything with anyone more than two years older than me. 😀 Literally, this usually includes family- friendly movies. S6 is just extra avoid- warranting. For me, it's not even just the awkwardness of the sex scenes. It's like, when you're watching a good show, it's kind of like you're IN the show. You are the characters, you're in the situations, and so on. So when someone in the show is having a "moment" (Love, friendship, kissing, sex) it just feels really awkward but since it feels like YOU are the one having the personal moment, someone else watching it feels like someone intruding on you having a moment. If that makes sense. 😀 Like, you wouldn't want your mom to watch you break down sobbing about your life, or your dad to observe you kissing someone. Which was completely off- topic, but yes. 🙂
I didn't actually think that it was THAT graphic though (the sex scenes). I would NEVER watch it with parents, or even my sista but it could've been worse. It was a bit questionable in Dead Things with the handcuffs, but Smashed was relatively tame, I thought. Maybe not. 😀 And Seeing Red is definitely one to avoid. Seeing someone almost get raped is never fun. 🙁

The sex scenes are pretty tame and the attempted rape is an important scene in the season. To get the full effect of the season and of the way the series was meant to be watched, I do not recommend skipping anything. All of it is pivotal to the development of Buffy and Spike. If you really want to watch the show, but can not stand extremely soft-core sex, then skip it, but I would not advocate it.

I've watched one episode of season 6 with my mom. She just said "Oh God, Buffy really changed. She's with Spike? It was better when she was with Angel." I replied "Mommy, do you know how much I love you". 😀
Yeah, as a last resort that'd be fine.
You miss subtleties though (in the characters faces and in what they say). The sex scenes are never filler and important dialogue happens just before, after and even during.
In the end though, the series as a whole is more important then individual scenes, so even if you gotta skip these episodes to watch the show, at least you're still getting the show and its greatness.

In response to the rape scene in seeing red, i didnt think it was too bad. Spike actually didnt get his way with her in the end. If you want to see a real rape scene watch the hills have eyes 1 and 2. When i was watching the rape scenes in the second one i vomited. They were both emotionally disturbing...
Yeah, those were rough. I think part of it is the fact they were successful and that it was violent.
The most disturbing rape scene I have ever witnessed in a somewhat mainstream film...

It is horrible and it is such because it establishes the revenge that must take place afterwards, but it's a rough one to bare.
She is raped by three or four men over the course of a day, and it is all filmed graphically. It caused a lot of controversy haha.

Like think if those movies were real...the people that were raped would be in therapy forever. Loled in the hills have eyes2 when missy or misty hit the freaks penis w a sledgehammer. He deserved it!

Maybe that was equally disturbing for me because it was about Buffy, person I admire and care about, and I'm not a big Spuffy fan, so that scene was disgusting to me.. although I like Xander's reaction 🙂

The attempted rape scene was probably one of the more powerful scenes throughout the entire series, as this one dealt with a nasty reality. I was pleased to see that Buffy saw off Spike, though I could not understand why she got back with him later? When we see him leave Sunnydale to set off to get his soul back there did not appear to any remorse in his actions or voice.
See, I've thought about that as well.
Leading up to the attempted rape, there's a large number of sex scenes between Buffy and Spike. They all range from different levels of violence, and most begin with Buffy saying "no" or trying to stop Spike. However, in each attempt she ultimately wants it. This time, Spike wants it and does essentially what he has done previously: Forced it upon her. Except this time she isn't into the game and doesn't want it. I think Whedon was trying to show how violent relationships can deteriorate if not kept in control and how with all the emotions related to most sexual encounters can boil over.
I think Buffy understood what their relationship was like prior to this encounter. No one else on the show knew what it was like; just how violent and sexual their relationship was (it went both ways). Spike attempting to rape her was just barely over the line of what had been going on prior to.
With that said, Spike realizes he wants more then sex with Buffy, and knows he needs to redeem himself... Thus he finds his soul. It's a powerful statement.

When did willow find out about spike raping buffy, i can't remember.
If you read the season 6 buffy comics willow and spike don't get along w eachother at all. Spike even sells willow to a group of warlocks who want to destroy a magical scroll. However it does give willow an advantage bc they gave her a list of resurrection spells in return so she could bring buffy back.

I've heard that James Marsters was really disturbed by doing the scene. He says he has this deal where everything he does as a character become part of him and he hated having to do that. I feel sorry for him.
