Weakest season opener?

Which first episode is the weakest to you?

season 7 opener since the whole season is one bad season just pretend season 6 was the final season.

I like “Dracula,” and while it does introduce some of the themes for the season, it’s not a good first episode. Having said that, Season 4 didn’t really end at great cost, and Season Five began with the Scoobies at their strongest. There’s no recovery. So, I like having one last Dawnless adventure, it doesn’t deal with the end of the last season, and doesn’t really foreshadow the season to come, save for the Dawn teaser.

While I'll agree that Dracula Vs Buffy is kind of weak. I think it had the potential to be better. Dracula could've made a strong big bad if written way better. Plus they could've (come to their senses) and skipped the whole 'and bring yer sister'. I'm sorry, but Cousin Oliver Dawn was the beginning of the end harbinger of doom.

The Dracula style villain had been done to death by that point including in S1 with The Master. To have just done it again for a whole season would just been so generic I think. The Dawn/key plot was so much more ambitious and led to possibly the best season finale ever. It gave Buffy the emotionally edge. One of the show's great strengths.

I like all of the season openers, but Buffy vs Dracula only means anything for the last 7 ish minutes. The rest of them actually have the feel of season premieres the whole time if that makes sense.

I completely agree. It was a weak season intro. They could have used Dracula in a much better way too. Who knows...maybe as a big bad in a later season?

Not sure that any are bad and probably not able to pick one , I like WSWB Buffy's dance leaving Xander like that aroused on the dance floor , Dracula was entertaining, first signs of Riley being insufferable.....Bargaining demon bikers ??? apart from a passable season until after OMWF .Welcome to the hellmouth saw this and was hooked . Like the freshman, Anne was good but Dead man's party WTF ? And whedon kept his promise to SMG with Lessons and up to CWDP then S7 went to crap, Chosen was too little to rushed and to late to save the season
I have to go with Bargaining but only because of what happened later in the season

Buffy VS Dracula was my least favourite.

I would have to go with Buffy Vs. Dracula. While I do enjoy this episode now, it kind of missed the mark for getting the audience excited about the new season.

That's because it's basically a stand alone episode. I could see of the theme of BvD was carried on throughout the season and the episode itself served as a microcosm for the season and her fight with Glory; but it did not. It was a throwaway episode.

I have to go with the majority for Buffy vs Dracula as my least favorite. I have some issues with Lessons and Barganing but at least they made sense within their respective seasons and had interesting elements to them. BVD could be moved to almost any seasons and it wouldn't matter because it has no impact on almost anything except Xander. In fact, the second episode in S5 Real Me would have been a better season opener because everyone would think, wait who is that Dawn girl?

I love Buffy vs Dracula so definitely not that one for me. It's hard though, I generally think that Buffy's season openers are strong... guess I'll go with Lessons because it's the only one I don't have a particular emotional attachment to, it was just kind of fine. Buffy was really pretty but other than that, just fine. Also Dawn makes friends but we never get to see them again? Couldn't they at least have made Kit a Potential or something, with them vanishing off screen forever Buffy's line: "And you might want to think about sticking together", is kind of dumb because it seems to suggest that we will see them again, that they're a new kind of Scooby-gang or whatever. So yeah, Lessons.

Those are all moments (among others) that made Lessons a really good opener and gave hope for season. I was really excited to see where the season would go after Lessons. And that's the job of a season opener, innit? To get you excited for the season? The rest of the shows failed the opener, the opener didn't fail.

I did say that I find the season openings as a whole strong, which would include Lessons, but that

guess I'll go with Lessons because it's the only one I don't have a particular emotional attachment to, it was just kind of fine.

So yes, the rest of the show is what failed the end Lessons, but I can't re-watch it without that knowledge and that makes it a weaker episode for me.
