What's your thoughts on the BIG SCARY PANDEMIC?

Swine Flu. It's all went a bit mental on the news. Apparently there's even people in Scotland being detained after coming back from Mexico.

It all sounds rather scary poo poo.

Even though it is said it is a low strain of the virus (H1N1), it is genetically distinct from other flu strains, which means it is unclear how effective currently available flu vaccines would be at offering protection.

The last flu pandemic was in 1968: An outbreak first detected in Hong Kong, and caused by a strain known as H3N2, killing up to one million people globally.

I should probably point out though, even if the big mental pandemic doesn't get you, you are going to die anyway, in due time, we all do.

Yeah, statistically we're overdue for a pandemic, a major meteorite strike, Yellowstone going nova, and all sorts of other scary stuff. Kind of makes 2012 look more believable, doesn't it?

Just yesterday...I was sitting on msn when TC tells me all about it....why swine? Why do I keep thinking of pigs...and how unfair it is to them that now they have some flu that's going to kill us all.

Poor pigs.

Either way, i die from a flu or I go camping with a book on edible mushrooms while I watch the citys lights get dimmer and dimmer. Sounds like a gay ol time

Correction: YOU'RE all going to die. I already invested in gas masks in all colors on the rainbow and plan to lock myself in my room with the windows bolted shut until the swine flu becomes the world's worst pandemic in history and kills everyone. I will then emerge as the world's last human survivor and be forced to roam the streets alone.

By the way, I've already bought the film rights for my story. I don't have a script yet, but I have a poster:

It's hit new Zealand? That's news to me, BB's NZ resident. Oh well, I've been vaccinated (Stabbed!) so I should be fine. Oh, but if I die, you're all in my will. LOL

Phew we are all saved! As you know NZ is behind the times so we've got ages till it gets to us. It was in the newspapers there that some bloke has proof the world isn't flat!

I love the fact that it's all over the news, yet the place I do my learning is on the Buffy Boards. I think it's interesting how many people don't seem to care, or think it's a risk. Maybe it is time that we start getting taken out. I'm gathering up supplies and running away to the simpson desert.

^^ Yeah this is the first place I heard about it too! I heard it mentioned on the radio but no one seems to be stressing about it. Mind you, I havent seen channel 7 news yet and they tend to over dramatise everything. I rekon Im pretty safe out here. No mutant pig flu virus could live in my body, actually not much could live in my body at the moment.

This is all I've been hearing about all weekend and its actually quite scary especially now its spreading through America, Canada and even New Zealand. I know of some people who are out in Mexico right now and Im just hoping they don't catch this swine flu. Its not nice hearing that the death toll has risen to 100 people in Mexico City.

It scares me a bit but then the media hyped up Avian Flu and said we were all going to die, so meh.
There's nothing we can do anyway, if we die we die.
