I like the fact that Britain will now be getting leaflets on how to protect yourself from this, wtf?!

We've only got a very few cases and already they think we're as bad as Mexico, thats the country that needs all the help fighting this not Britain. We're so over dramatic and panicky over this, yes its bad to hear but give it a break if we do get it yes it could be sudden but it would have happened already by now.

We're 'panicky' because we're told to panick.

I don't blame man on street for being worried, I blame news people that blow it out of all proportions, who scare the public who make the gov't feel they have to do something to make them safe.

If the Gov't did nothing for us, the people would riot - and in effect thats what the media want!

I totally agree all the news people go crazy over it, especially the ones like GMTV. They were on about it constantly this morning. It gets even worse when they start bringing in experts saying we should do this and that. They make it all out like the thread is titled we're all going to die or going to be hit by it so badly. Breathe Britain, breathe!

I know, its the same on The Wright Stuff.
They had a segment "Should we worry about Swine Flu" and then it had three 'celebs' saying "yes", then audience members making comments like "I bought some 'Old El Paso' Fajitas last week, I know it doesn't contain pork, but I still threw them away" and Matthew Wright, rather than telling this fool that it wouldn't be an issue, looked at the camera and asked other people to call in with how they 'plan to keep themselves safe'!

Ohh and Fusion2, I had a dream with you in it last night - not a naughty dream, we were talking on the telephone...which was nice.

Gotta give you some karma for having a dream about me, totally made my day.
How many cases has there been in Mexico City so far?

I think everyone should chill the feck out, Mexico City's population is 21 million!! 21 MILLION.

You know in the United States alone there are 40000 cases of Toilet related injuries and deaths a year - that doesn't get news coverage.

Maybe you should start a new lobby group.

This is just an excuse to create a new vaccine! YAY! <_<

My best friend shot a wedding (photographer) in Cancun last week and came back with the flu. It's pretty much the regular flu. Let's keep in mind the ones dying are in Mexico. Are you shocked?

LOL @ Lurker...
Photography is our business, not our hit list.

For a while I was wondering why your friend shot a wedding photographer.
You know what's interesting? Nobody has died or suffered severely from it here, yet. but tonnes of mexicans have died from it.

Apparently, and this is only going to make sense to UK people...maybe, the lead singer of N-Dubz may have it. According to The Sun, I must add that! She's been diagnosed with the symptoms, as she fainted on a flight to Athens. She's in an isolation ward in Greece right now apparently.

If it's true she's only been in the UK since the outbreak, on tour.

Just to clarify, I don't like N-Dubz, nor really know who they are! Someone just sent me a link!

I just heard that apparantly it isn't more dangerous than a normal flu. If it proves to be true, then I'm seriously gonna laugh my ass off because of all the hysteria they've made over nothing.

"Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova told the BBC that, based on samples tested, the mortality rate was comparable with that of seasonal flu."

Well, it seems like the danger has been blown out of proportions. 😛 But if hundreds of people have died surely it has to be worse than seasonal flu, even for Mexico?

Even a 'normal flu' pandemic is pretty serious. Without a vaccination, flu can still be a very serious illness and if it reaches pandemic status then it puts a serious strain on the medical services; particularly intensive care units.

I said previously in this thread I said that he district I live in could be facing a flu pandemic in a few years. Its suggested that at least 30 people will be need intensive care beds at any time and the largest hospital in my areas has only 5 of these beds.

So yeah, normal flu at at pandemic level is still not something to brush aside.

I read the same on teletext earlier this comes after finding out the lead singer of The Rasmus has admitted himself back in to hospital back home in Finland as he's not been feeling well at all and has just come back from Mexico. Im totally worried right now as this seems to not be getting any better at the moment.

A Finnish site said he went to a check-up even though he didn't have any of the symptoms. :o
I agree, that is doesn't seem to be getting any better right now.

I think that its not being taking that seriously because 'normal' influenza itself seems to be underestimated by many people. So many people say they have 'flu' when they have a really bad cold and its so common to say 'I've got flu.' I've had some pretty bad cold type viruses before but I don't think I've ever had real flu. It's a really nasty virus and totally wipes you out and really takes its toll on your immune system, and I can't say I've ever felt that rough before.

I don't think I've ever had proper flu either
I completely agree with you, I've never had the flu properly before, I've had viruse's but the flu can be so bad. Totally wiping you out for days on end.

Whilst the media are still hyping it up and making it all out to be that we will all die or half the world will be wiped out. Thats not the case, people are recovering from it but the virus doesn't seem to be easing up in the number of people catching it. Thats the scary part especially with it spreading through different countries now. What makes it worse is people either don't take note or go completely over the top with it.
