Were they gonna write Cordelia and Gunn romance? (First Impressions)

There was a lot of chemistry between Charisma and J. August Richards.

Were they planning on a romance between Cordelia and Charles?
 
It wouldn't have surprised me from back when Cordy was following him around to save him. It looked as if they were setting that up, and I thought that might be an interesting ship as both are domineering and take crap from no one so it would promise to be a rocky one, but just maybe a beautiful one as well.

personally imo I thought Charisma and J. had more chemistry than Amy and J.
 
I don't think so. I got more of a "big sister/little brother" vibe from their relationship, the way that it was written, especially when Gunn first became a regular, then the ambiguous Angel/Cordy thing was worked into the story line, so any romance between Cordy and Gunn would have seemed out of place. If they had shown any sort of interest in each other in the beginning, then, maybe, yes, but it always seemed to me that Cordy still had something of a crush on Angel from back in Sunnydale.
 
Gunn and Cordelia could have been glorious. Cordelia would not have had to compromise her character, like she did with Angel.
 
Its possible that the writers were floating it out there just to see how the fans responded. I like their interactions but I do see them as more of a brother and sister type thing than anything romantic.
 
I liked Cordy and Gunn's chemistry together, I think Cordelia would have appreciated Gunn calling her out on stuff or not, that is the fun, they had a Beatrice and Benedick or a My Girl Friday vibe, it would have been cute. I think a opportunity was missed there.

Sorry, i perfer Xander and Cordelia and gunn with Fred or Anya and Wesley with Fred or Jenny and Giles with Anya or Jenny, i think Gunn never have romantic feeling for Cordelia.
 
I had this same thought when I watched that episode. I think I posted a thread about it awhile back. IMO, I thought they would have been a very interesting couple. Much more than ::gag:: Cangel. They had great chemistry in that episode and Cordelia really shined . Unfortunately after that it went nowhere 🙁
 
I doubt this was the direction they were going. I think the point of First Impressions was to help bring Gunn more into the show as a whole. It's too bad they only referenced this episode once after it happened.
 
I don't think they were setting up a relationship, more so that it was setting up Gunn's role in the show, like @EditorsNote mentioned. Cordelia is the force of nature that brings people down to earth, it's why she was paired up with Angel - to cut through the brooding. Cordelia sees people. I'm sure she says something of the sort in the episode.

It's weird, CC has great chemistry with most of her male cast, but not sexual chemistry, except maybe with Xander. She gives off more of a sisterly vibe.
 
I would have loved Gunn and Cordi. Then Fred and Wesley could have gotten together sooner. When I watch season 3 it seems like Fred and Wes were written to be together from the beginning, and yet it takes two years for them to get one day.
 
Gunn and Faith would be a better pairing. Don't forget the exchange between each other when they first meet:

Gunn: I hold my own.
Faith: That's a shame.

Cordelia and Xander was more believable as a romance. This business of mixing and matching everyone in the cast to get them in a relationship is wearing a bit thin.

Oh good call. I can actually see Faith and Gunn making a good couple🙂
 
I don't know about that. I wasn't hung-go about Faith and Wood but then again, last people at the party standing hookup...contrivance but actually, it does go that way in real as well. It was a intense moment, both had painful pasts, Wood with a real affinity for slayers or strong women, they would plausibly seek solace in each other for night.

And Faith wanting to blow him off the next day as is her MO, what she knows how to do (wow that was figuratively by the way lol) him a good guy but one who can challenge her
and share true sympathy for everything she's been through in the past not many guys like that.

So, didn't think anything of Faith and Wood at the time, I like them just fine now.

Faith and Gunn? Gunn is a principled softie and idealist, We don't want him to end up with the same fate as Wesley. He will always be a champion for the good fight but I think he is ready and deserving of a white picket fence retirement.

Faith has a lot of baggage, going off with Angel to have dark night of the soul adventures seems fitting.

It really was a missed opportunity: Gunn, the street-smart leader of a neighbourhood watch against vampires hooking up with Faith, the hot slayer. Both had damaged childhoods and neither one had any real intellectual interests or schooling. They were instantly attracted to each other and that counts for a lot. Their romance could have been played as knock down / drag out fighting or each one acting as therapist for the other or both with endless moving between one state or the other. If they had followed that bit of drama, a lot of the nonsense that clogged up the storytelling could have been tossed out in favour of Funn. (See what I did there?)

By comparison, Cordelia with her privileged childhood had nothing in common with someone from the streets even though she was living in poor housing at the start of the show. But by the fifth episode, she got an apartment that Charisma had said in an interview was one she wished she could afford. I just don't see Cordelia and Gunn as a prospective romance. The chemistry is not there and remember her statement to Buffy in BtVS Season 1 about downward mobility? I don't think she really wants move to the wrong side of the tracks again. They really would have nothing to talk about because they have nothing in common.
 
I was disappointed the hookup between Gunn and Gwen Raiden was not further explored. Or at least I was disappointed I didn't get to see Gwen anymore. I think Faith is too good for Gunn though. As far as Cordi being incompatible with Gunn, I'm gonna use the opposites attract theory.

Remember though Cordelia grow since season 1, Doyle? "I finally find a guy who is rich and handsome and its not good enough for me anymore, it seems insignificant compared to bravery" something along those lines.

People seem confused about the core of Cordelia to this day, on BTVS, she was selfish and superficial, two dimensional on purpose, by design, which is actually kind of meta.

Her journey on Angel defined her personality traits as 1. Pragmatic, 2. Strong sense of self, 3. Self Preservation, 4, Candor, 5, Optimism but her "character" wasn't defined by those traits. Cordy would go to the ends of the earth for her friends, is that not contradictory to self preservation? yes it is but we all contain contradictions. (And which makes a character multifaceted.)

Just noticed, a seeming contradiction in her personality, pragmatic and optimistic should be bumping heads, it's so great a person can be both and is right to be so.

Yeah that was another bit of shabby season four writing. Wasn't he still with Fred when they got together? Whatever the case they should have at least put a cap on the plot. Maybe they couldn't get the actress who played Gwen back for more episodes?
