What a nice thing to say!

With so much death and down stuff on the boards today, I thought it might be nice to just show that there's some good in the world, too.

So what is the nicest, funniest, weirdest, most memorable compliment you have ever given or received?


Most memorable for me was when the project manager for the job I was on said that I was like a Tom without an engineering degree. It makes sense because Tom was the guy I used to work for and he was basically the project manager's favourite.

Surely people have said nice things about you! Share them and make the world all fuzzy again!

ok, this isn't really the nicest thing that's ever been said to me, but it's the most recent.

i was at work yesterday, serving customers, when these two guys rocked up to my till, late 20's i'd say. one of them hung back as the other stepped forward to pay. the one who paid leaned over and whispered to me that the other guy had wanted to come to my till 'cause he said i was pretty. i had the hugest grin on my face for the rest of the day. it made me feel good about myself for once! lol

The best compliment I've ever been given was when I was having my weight guessed by the guy at the carnival, this was before my drastic weight loss, and he guessed my weight at 40 lbs lower than what it actually was! I could have kissed him! I went to a second one, and the girl there guessed the same! That was a good night!

A guy told me once that I was a bitch. I thanked him, 'cause it's my bitchiness that I derive a lot of my humor from, so I guess that was also one of the best compliments I've ever been given!

Hmm. When I was in college I worked in one of the school's cafeterias. I remember being scared out of my mind my first day (it was my first job). A year later I was training this kid to do the job I had the year before and he had that same terrified look in his eyes. I assured him he'd do fine. One year later that kid was training the newest batch of rookies and the girl looked like she was going to be sick. Brandon (the kid I trained) smiled at her and said she'd do fine and if she needed anything to ask him or me because I knew everything in this place. It was some big thing but it was so true and it was nice to be acknowledged. I did everything at that job and between me and Brandon we had trained 90% of the kids we were working with.

Oh and then a year later or so I got talked into working the salad bar on one of the busiest nights of the month (steak night). The guys that work out in the dining room were ecstatic when they heard. They told me I was the best salad person and I rocked, lol. That was because I got the job done faster then anyone else that worked there so they got to leave early. I totally rocked that job.

Best compliment ever though was back when my kids were little. I was chasing my 3yo and my 2yo through wal-mart on one of their bad days. My husband was trailing behind with our 1yo and everyone was giving us these nasty looks like we couldn't control our kids. All but this one old lady who walked up to me, patted me on the shoulder with this knowing smile and simply said "Bless you," then walked off. It was like the world just suddenly stopped for me. Nothing seemed to matter after that and the kids didn't seem to be misbehaving as badly. Best feeling in the world to have just one person understand what you are going through instead of glaring at you.

My school prinicpal retired last year but on the last day of school he pulled me aside and said the he was very proud of me, that I was a spectacular person and he expected great things from me.

Ever since I was in high school, random people have occasionally called me a "walking, talking encyclopedia". To me is the bestest compliment anyone could ever give me, far beyond better than compliments about my appearance.

Someone recently told me that, even after all these years, I don't look a bit worse than I did at 40. That's a compliment, right? I mean, she was smiling when she said it.

Someone recently told me that I had a natural gift with horses which was a huge compliment as I love horses as much as I love the whedonverse!

My brother and I have failed to mature a whole lot since he was 6 and I was 11. Well, except we actually LIKE each other and we're quite close. But, if you could hear us pick on each other, you wouldn't know that. And, now he can pick me up and throw me across the room. (He's HUGE and has a Baboon Butt :lmao🙂

About 4 years ago he had shown up here to get a haircut and have me scan his pictures for him. (He doesn't like to pay for things I can do FOR him especially when he can leave me to clean up his hair and not have to even say Thanks!)

But, as he was in my office he looked over at the easel and said, "Hey! Did you paint that?" I sarcastically said, "No, Ape-Face, elves come in at night at paint them, I just pass them off as mine." Then I asked him what it was he thought I DID for a living.
He said he had heard what I did but he hadn't been in my office so he hadn't SEEN anything I'd drawn since highschool.
He got up and was poking around it and finally I asked him if he liked it and he said, "Nope. I hate it. I would NEVER hang it on my wall. But, that's not the point. You can tell there's real talent here even if you don't like it. I'm impressed."

Since he usually just calls me "Fatty Bump-o" and punches me so hard it bruises....I think it was the nicest thing EVER! I tear up thinking about it.

This is a lovely thread! And it was really nice to read all the lovely things people have been told them.

The only thing I can think of is a few months back a friend of mine said how he remembers people by their hair like 'she's the one with the bob' etc but I'm always changing my cut like every two months or so, like one time I'll get a fringe cut and then I'll be growing it out the next week so he said if he didn't already know me he'd have to remember me by something else. So, obviously, I asked him 'what?' and he told me my smile. :-D

He said I was the most smiley friend he's ever met and that even though he teases me to death, in truth he thinks I must be a very nice person if I smile so much all the time. And that I have a lovely smile.

Needless to say, that made me smile more.

what a lovely thread! I have enjoyed reading everyones compliments.

I have a few that could go to the top and not ever be forgotten...

The first would have to be from my grandfather who is the pilar in our family. There are few people that could tell you that they are disappointed in you that would matter enough to crumble you into pieces. he and my grandma are two of them. So you can imagine as to what it feels like when you hear how proud they are of you!!! And an even bigger compliment, is when they say it about how good a parent you are!

I guess it ment more to me because I have had a challenging time at being a parent. My eldest son is borderline autistic and my youngest was born 2 1/2 months premature and well, its just been hard! To top it off, my mother is constantly telling me how I need to improve on this or that and usually my grandfather agrees with whatever she says, but this one time.... I was in his prescense with the kids and I can't remember exactally what was happening, but I think my eldest was having some issues and I delt with it and he said to me..."you know April you are a Fantastic Mother...perhaps you could share some parenting tips with your aunts"...I was like WOA!

the other best compliment I was recieved was really from many people at once and wasn't so much something said, but something did...

It was on my Wedding Day last year...I had been engaged to my childrens father for nearly 5 years before we finally said "I do"...so you can imagine how much I planned and planned and planned for the big day to happen.

Well it was suppossed to be an outdoors wedding, it was set in the spring and there were all sorts of elaborate planning into the outdoor ceremony. ( of course we had arrangements in case it rained) well.......

on the morning of my wedding last April, I woke up to find not rain.... but SNOW!!!!!!! I looked out the window to see my some of the outdoor props completely white and from there it only got worse...the best man was stuck in North Carolina so we had to replace him at the last minute...I had to arrange for the ceremony to be moved indoors and therefor a delay of an hour ect ect ect....

when I finally arrived in my limo some members of my wedding party came rushing out to inform me of some other problems...some decorations had been left including the unity candle and the mother of all problems... the sound wasnt working....I crumbled under the pressure of my perfect day falling apart and started to cry, but once I finally regained my composure and decided that my day was perfect simply because I was marrying the man of my dreams! and that I would marry him ,I went inside only to find that my friends and family had done an incrediable job at making the place look fantastic...My photographer patched the sound....the reception hall provided a candle and wrapped to lighters elegantly...the food room was unbeliavable and at that moment I realized that these people wanted me to have that one special day all my own...not so much for JJ...not for anyone else.... but me...and had worked so hard to make it wonderful that it just blew me away...I truly dont believe there was a dry eye in the house when I walked down that aisle...and to top it all off our wedding toasting.... well I have been to at least a dozen weddings and never have I seen a couple toasted as much as we were...to know how much you are loved and appreciated well its amazing and I will NEVER NEVER forget it.

I was at a restaurant with a friend once and this little old lady came up to the table and said to me, "You are such a beautiful young man." and she walked away. I didn't even know what to think at the moment cuz I was confused but looking back now, it was nice of her to say that to a complete stranger.

I've been on a diet for a little over two weeks now, and my boss told me I look skinnier today. Yay!

One time, I was in a restaurant with my kids...they were very young at the time, probably 4 and 3 or so.....a nice older couple came by my table to compliment me on how well behaved they were. It's possible that may have been the ONLY time they behaved in a restaurant!

Hmm.. The nicest compliment (that I can remember) was off my brother, but not exactly from him as my brother would never say anything soppy to my face, but my mum was telling me how he'd been saying that he though I'd changed recently and I was a much nicer person and he liked me much more now... Which was nice as me and my brother have never really got on apart from the odd occasion when he called me "Little bit" and I'd laugh. Mine and my brothers relationship before now mostly consisted of violence and the last few years completely avoiding each other which was pretty easy seeing as we don't live together anymore.

I do have to agree with him though, as I do think I've changed and perhaps am a nicer person.. was nice to have a little recognition though.. especially off my brother 🙂 Since then me and my brother see each other a LOT more! He drives me to places most of the time and I can actually carry a conversation with him now, its great 🙂
