Leonard Cohen - On a Wire by Philippe Gerard

This is a comic/manga type book indicating all the details of Leonard Cohen's life. It is quite good. Leonard Cohen was one of the best composers, singers and performers to come out of Canada.
 
Oh this book, I've started A Court of Thorns and Roses, and it's just cringy fanficcy easy reading. But not in a good twilight way.

Nearly done with Dune: House Atreides. Honestly, this is the worst of the 15 Dune novels I've read so far. This was the first one written by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson after the death of Frank Herbert, and you can tell Brian and Kevin were struggling to find the right formula. The later-released novels from the duo are considerably better than this, and of course the original six Frank Herbert Dune novels are on an entirely different level altogether.

Back on the release order Stephen King train, baby 🚂🚂 I had sort of hit a wall with The Talisman, so left it at page 200 and moved on to Thinner this past week.

I just finished Thinner two days ago (great book) and started IT yesterday. Already up to page 170. I complain and nitpick this book to death, but on this third reread I have gotta admit: it’s really good (at least SO FAR). Whether or not it retains that quality into the oncoming 900 pages is yet to be seen. It’s still nowhere near my all time favorites (Pet Sematary and The Shining), at least at the moment, but it’s very well written and enjoyable.

I was surprised at how much I liked It, though the last 30 pages or so felt like they were of the first draft rather than what the rest of the story was. Guess King had bills to pay (or cocaine he needed) so sent in what he had.

IT is an awful, cocaine-induced fever dream. Easily some of King's worst work, written when he was deepest into his vices.

The man wrote a graphic gangbang scene where every participant is 11 years old. I mean, what the hell?

Great comic. It’s a brilliant “coming of age” story, namely because the author’s idea that everyone has a big experience at the girls’ age is 100% true.

I actually would’ve agreed with you in your first comment before this reread. I’ve never been that hot on this book before.

But I don’t know. Something has really changed this re read. As I get closer and closer to 30 I sort of have those moments where I’m reading this book and realizing just how much I’ve forgotten about my childhood, and more upsetting is the forgetting that I’ve ever forgotten. I think Bill puts it best when he tells Audra that he relayed facts to her, but didn’t really recognize the memories or importance of the words. I’m already almost 300 pages in to this one and it’s resonating very deeply. I still think Pet Sematary is his magnum opus, with The Shining close behind, but I’d actually say (so far) this book is in the top 5, whereas before I’d always had it middle of the road. I’m discovering more and more as I read these titles and re read them after having aged up just how resonant they are and how much they mean to me.

As far as the latter assessment, yes. There are “problematic” elements of King’s works from time to time. I think the worst it’s ever been was Rage, a book that I couldn’t even finish. He has gone back and talked about his poorer choices, but it honestly just doesn’t bother me. I chalk that up to being both familiar with his writing and relatively desensitized to fictionalized content, but I can understand why others wouldn’t like it. Personally, while I don’t outright enjoy it, I don’t care. It’s fiction and it’s skippable, especially that scene.
 
I just read A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, and A Court of Wings and Ruin all in the span of 2 weeks. Lol. I really am enjoying this series. I'm sure I will enjoy other Maas novels down the road, as well.

I am about to embark in The Grandest Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, and I'm excited for it. From the description, it's set in a type of escape room/puzzle game for $17 million. It's like Young Adult fiction, but I love reading YA because I can recommend to my students.

At the tail end of last year, I read Barnes' Naturals series and it was so good. Like a teenaged version of Criminal Minds. With so many twists and turns!

Im reading the acotar series verrry slowly so maybe it will be finished by the time I get to the end.
Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey. I sort of wonder why I'm liking this book so much, when it keeps dropping main characters and it doesn't focus on the aspects that I wish it would. But it's very well-written, hard to put down, taking place on different Earths of alternate realities.
 
On the fairy train - A court of mist and fury. Im loving it! If twilight was in fairy land, this would be it 😀 I still want to know what "vulgar gesture" they keep making though. And how can she keep calling him a prick now that she knows his wingspan?

Just started Roadside Picnic too, should be a quick read.
 
On to the next fairy book A court of wings and ruin. I dont want to be devouring this series so quickly! I like the escapism.

I'm still reading the Irish book, which is called Into The Storm.

Physical book wise I'm reading Judi Dench, Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays The Rent.

The first book sets up the amazing second and third books. Maybe i am bias? I don't know. I loved them. I haven't read the fourth or fifth yet, though.

I loved the third. As a finale to a trilogy, it really does a great job!


Currently starting Onyx Storm, the third book in the Empyrean series.

The first is to me the weakest book in the series, not bad, as it's easy reading fun. However book 5 is my favourite one.
