To me there's a huge difference between feeling good from accomplishing something (having a good job for example) and looking down on others just because they haven't done the same thing.
Well, here's my take on it: Somebody has to EARN my respect. If you're, for example, a janitor, then if you
earn my respect, I'll respect you. If you don't, then I won't. If you're a surgeon and you don't have a personality that I respect, then I WON'T respect you. If you have a personality that I do respect, then I WILL respect you.
Being patronizing is, of course, never attractive. If somebody has a respectable personality then they should be respected, no matter their class, age, sex, race, career, religion, or any other type of discrimination is.
But, also obviously, you should be proud of your accomplishments, and you SHOULD be pleased with yourself. After all, in the long run, the only opinion about yourself that REALLY counts is your own.
🙂
Having a "better" job or a lot of money don't have to be just luck. Most definitely not. But it's also not only down to determination.
Well, I feel that GENERALLY when you work hard (very hard!) you get good results. But then again, in different countries (I'm an American girl), that may be very different.
🙂 Not everybody has the same opportunities.
But honestly. Is there anything worse than people that hasn't deserved a lot of money, but have, and look at other people as less because of it? When it comes to attitude that is. There's definitely worse things in the world as such.
Yup, as I said, it all ties down to that respect thing. Anybody, no matter how much money you have, can earn my respect by having a good personality.
I get that. The point of not having english as a native language was mostly personal since it's happened more than once that people assume I have. But I still stand by what I said first. No matter if you've learned english from birth there's still people that'll have problem with writing and reading that doesn't have anything to do with being lazy. I'm sure most of them have felt stupid enough for not being good at it in their life as it is.
Yeah, I'm still shocked that English isn't your native language, you're so good at it!
😀 And yes, some people have troubles with language, and it isn't always their fault, but seeing people write badly on the internet still gets on my nerves. :biggrin3: Not the PERSON, just the writing. My mind is pretty OCD, so I have to have all the letters in order and such or I have a mini-mental breakdown. It's kind of disturbing.
😀
I agree. But how often do you know why a post is misspelled or not? Not enough probably even if you of course can at times (people you know relatively well).
Well, there are some things that I look for. For example: If they don't capitalize the first letter of their sentences. If they don't have a period where a period should be. If they don't use contractions properly. If they SHORTEN everything (That's mega-annoying). It's like Kewl talk, only a bit different. I don't comment on it, but it makes it harder for me to take the writer seriously.
Kewl talk on the other hand... And by googling it I just now found out what kewl stands for. "A stupid way of spelling "cool". Made up by morons." I'm aware that it's not the best way of putting it but it really was the first hit I got. You learn something everyday. Even if I should have known earlier. Blame it on lack of interest.
LOL, I had never heard anyone use the word "Kewl" before, but I guessed what it meant pretty quickly (My youngin' friends and I all talk in "Kewl" talk when we're on Facebook or texting, etc.
😀 )
I get annoyed when people make false assumptions, take things too seriously or personally, or flip out for no real reason. People who get angry really easily and quickly are automatically on my "Most Hated" list.
😀
