What are your pet peeves?

This may sound weird but I don't like being touched. When a family member puts their hand on my shoulder or stands too close to me, it makes me uncomfortable and feels weird. I am not a hugger or physical affection type of individual. I like my personal space.

Oh I'm like that too.
I used to be much worse (unannounced touching pretty much got you punched) but luckily I've managed to control that. I still don't like being touched though, not unless I give the go-ahead first

OccaQuokka disagrees: We obviously live in very different worlds. You get a better paying job here without qualifications, many people get turned down for being overqualified. So in my world they mean jack.

So why does anyone where you're from bother getting qualifications? Why did you go to University to get a degree if 'qualifications mean jack'? In most places qualifications do matter, and to be honest I would be very surprised if they really meant nothing in Australia. Unless when you say 'here' you don't mean the whole country, just a part of it?

You mean literally? Ok I'll play. I mean WA. I went to Uni to do enviro science which at the time had huge career ops, but not any more. I never finished it cos I sure as hell dont need it now, nor do I want it. I grew up, saw the world as it really is and got my priorities straight. The mines are the big money, many of my uni graduate friends are stuck on the dole cos they cant get work. Cleaners are making more money than most people I know in the city, the labourors are making the big bucks in the bush. Its a boom, set to go for my lifetime at least.

What MY point is, and has always been, is that qualifications and uni degrees DO NOT make you a better person. They mean jack to me personally. I dont care if you dropped out when you were 14 or kept studying till you're 43, it doesnt matter. What you work as doesnt matter. What matters is who you are, not what you are.

Ok. Sounds like WA is a bit of an anomaly, not many places on the rich side of the north/south divide are like that.

I don't believe having better qualifications makes you a better person.

I would have to say people who leave their dogs outside to bark all hours of the day and night, I mean come on your in the house you must hear it plus its cruel if you can't take care of a dog then don't have one.

Also two faced people drive me crazy, behaving different with certain people it just makes me mad. Be real.

I hate people who slam doors to, plus they have this delayed reaction after it bangs like "oops" five minutes later arrggg.

One of my neighbors left their dog in the back of their truck in the middle of the night and you could hear the poor thing crying. It pissed me off. Some people shouldn't adopt animals. They are supposed to be part of your family.

So true, some people shouldn't be allowed pets.
Men in pink shirts.
I don't like pink in general but men in pink shirts just crawls under my skin and makes me see red for a second or two

People who bathe in perfume or cologne. I mean honestly, they can't smell that bad and it's a horror to be anywhere where they've passed because the scent lingers!

Believe me, some people DO smell that bad! I'd much rather breathe in the scent of perfume/cologne than body odor.

Pink shirts are for men who read pink (or, ok, peach-coloured) newspapers ;-)
^ On that account, people who smell like they haven't seen the insides of a bathroom in a month. Gah at when you're standing in queue at the supermarket till behind them, so disgusting!

Worse is when you're the cashier on the other side of the till and have to touch their hands/credit card/money whilst maintaining a smile through the stench.

I love your sig so so much... (lol randomness! :D )
I'm very sensitive to fragrances so both the fake kind and the body odor kind is equally horrible to me. I often end up next to either type in the subway, smashed in close to their armpits during rush hour... it's lovely... (not)

I think I'm secretly neurotic. Living in my first apartment away from home I discovered to have a real Monica Gellar side to me. I get really stressed with untidiness. I mean as students you expect it not to be perfect but clumps of hair gathered on the floor, limes were left to rot on the kitchen side. After cleaning up a million times I started leaving threatening notes to clean up their own mess.
Another pet peeve is childishness and peer pressure. Which are kinda linked I guess. The whole peer pressure thing makes me go 'Oh grow up, like I give a......you-know-what'.
Erm, sorry....just about prevented a little rant there, haha.

Teachers who use incorrect grammar or aren't very knowledgeable about the subject that they teach. Like, last year I had this Social Studies teacher who was BEYOND terrifying and annoying (She always found ways to get me in trouble- One time, she brought me out into the hallway, and was like "Oriana, I think that you think that you know everything about social studies." "But I DON'T know everything about social studies..." "That's right. You don't." With an evil smile on her face. That was traumatizing. 😉 ), but one of the most annoying things about her was that she kept making mistakes with her spelling and word usage. I think one of the reasons for her hating me so much is that I'm better than her when it comes to English. :tongue3:

In fanfiction, I can't stand it when people make the characters OOC (out of character), especially if it's not on purpose. Usually I just skip over those stories; If it's not true to the characters then it's of no use to me. 🙂

I had a teacher back in my school days who couldn't spell correctly to save his life. And, weirdly, I had him in Social Studies too!? are we on to something here *hears X-Files theme playing in the background*
I had a math teacher in the second half of ninth grade that was so mean she actually made students cry. She would make a big deal if you didn't have a pencil for a test even if there was a stack of pencils right next to her (for people who didn't have one). She hated when someone arrived late to class even if it was only TEN SECONDS late. I remember that semester I was often a minute or so late because I left with my sister and she had a class that didn't care if you were late. The teacher actually referred to me as The Tardy Queen and when someone messed up a math problem she would blame it on me and the fact that I disrupted the learning atmosphere with my lateness.

I hate when people say they don't like strong perfume because they have asthma and then light up a freakin cigarette.

Growing up I hated when an older relative would say "You'll understand when you are older." I was a precocious kid that could debate politics, theology, philosophy, classic literature and was asked by the adults how to spell words and to correct the grammar on legal documents (my spelling/grammar is much better in RL than it is on fanboards!) and yet because I disagreed with them on something it was obviously because I was a kid with no life experience that would understand when I was older and therefore wiser and more intelligent. I get that some people don't have *emotional intelligence* but I did then and still do.

People who take EVERYTHING seriously, like they can't take a joke. Strict people who act like they have a pencil stuck up their butt and never smile. People who look down on others and treat them like crap just because they're a little more successful in life.

so agreed!
People who don't have the life experience to be talking about things in an authortattive (sp!) manner doing so. If you have an opinion, fine, but if you're only 10 talking about driving a car, 15 talking about drinking or 16 talking about gambling you can have an opinion on the matter but you won't know what it's really about, or understand it fully, until you can actively participate in it. And, for the love of god, don't patronise me/others. I find it really pathetic when a, for example, twelve year old starts lecturing me about smoking, because, at the end of the day, I won't be doing it around them (because I'm good at that, I'm a fairly considerate smoker as long as people don't treat me like scum because I smoke) and it should have a minimal impact on their lives.

Also, people that openly stare at/laugh at/make comments at/about the disabled kids I work with. Even though some of these kids could be classed as "dangerous", they bring a joy to my life, my other co-workers lives and their parents. They're in secure facilities depending on their needs and would never be able to hurt anyone; so don't tell me they should be put down like dogs because they serve no purpose in this world.

&&breathe!

I don't know where you live, but I've known far too many fifteen-year-olds with a sturdy experience of drinking alcohol.

Groups who walk in side by side on footpaths, so that you have to step into traffic get past them. That weird "Ahhhhhh" noise people make after taking a drink of tea, knuckle cracking, kids wearing fake tan and make up, pets in clothing, loud people, boy racers.
And the biggies - intolerance, bullying and arrogance.

What if the 15 year has an alcoholic father that has beaten him? What if the 12 year old's mother died of cancer caused primarily by smoking?
Just because someone is young doesn't mean they haven't experienced anything. You say you don't like people patronising you, yet you still patronise people who are younger than you by saying they can't understand something. The child with the alcoholic father whose been domestically abused understands drinking and it's harmful effects, possibly better than you do.What you have said is a massive generalisation.
