What character do you think was given the best and least break by the writers?

Spike was obviously a fan favorite, and the writers treated him accordingly. I heard a couple of people call Spike the main character by the end of season 7, and I honestly don't see many faults with that reasoning. On the bad side, Cordelia is the number one shafted character, largely because most of her character assassination happened on purpose. I don't have to explain the story, it's literally infamous on our community, but Cordelia's character largely suffered due to an agenda on Joss' behalf. Completely unforgivable, even if I like season 4 more than I hate it. Special shout out to Gunn as far as bad treatment. He was clearly the token black guy. They could've done so much more with him. The writers didn't know how to realistically write a black guy from the 'hood, and all its intricacies. In all fairness, how could they? They didn't have to have the experience, but they could've at least done their research. I will never forgive them for "Gangsta's Paradise." Ever. 🙄😛

A blonde girl from LA who is part demon and has visions and trains in martial arts and her name ends in y and she is friends with a male British Watcher and a nerdy girl who is good with computers and a guy without superpowers and lectured someone on not using tact and first year out of high school a guy manipulated her into sex then wanted nothing to do with her and she was in a romance with a vampire with a soul named Angel and they once got possessed by the spirit of lovers and she once felt eveyone else's pain and he held her hand while she was laying in bed and they once napped on his bed together and trained together and Darla once tried to kill her and she ended a season no longer on earth but came back in the beginning of the next season and that year a spell was done that erased the group's memories.

Wbo am I talking about? Buffy or Cordy?

While I was never a big fan of Cordelia, at least she was her own character on BtVS. It was like AtS was doing a checklist of all the ways they could turn her into Buffy. The character assassination started way before season 4.

Woah! There was definitely a Buffy-ing of Cordelia around S3/S4, especially after she turned blonde but this is just...when you put it like this, how did I not notice!

I felt like Simon Tam while watching AtS. "This is what going mad feels like."

And the really infuriating part is most of the fandom didn't pick up on it. They just thought Cordy was maturing and Cangel had nothing in common with Bangel.

Whenever I watch IWRY, and it switched from Angel & Buffy happy in bed after hours of lovemaking to Cordelia in the bar complaining, "I'm out of a job now" I cringe at the foreshadowing.

And Buffy was referenced TWICE in the Cangel episode Waiting in the Wings. By Lorne when he said Angel has a thing for cheerleaders and then by Angel when he brought up that time Angelus & Buffy were possessed by the spirit of lovers in I Only Have Eyes For You.

And when Angel asked Skip about Cordy returning from that higher dimension, Skip references Buffy. "No one returns from paradise. Except a Slayer one time--"

When Angel had sex with Darla it was an intentional callback to sex with Buffy so that was good writing. The episodes were called Surprise (BtVS s2) & Reprise (AtS s2), Darla quoted Buffy "Was I not good?" and her adding "I used to do this professionally" was very similar to Angelus telling Buffy "You were great, really. I thought you were a pro." And I didn't pick up til now, Angel gave Buffy a ring before sex and gave Darla a ring after sex. The episode before Angel had sex with Buffy, it was about getting pregnant and raising babies "I'm a single mother" and after sex with Darla, it turns out he got her pregnant and raises the baby as a single father.

The dream sequence Angel had in s4 just plagiarized Surprise without comparing or contrasting or lampshading. Then it ended with Angel saying Buffy's name.

And we're supposed to believe Cordelia cutting Groo's hair like Angel's, dressing him in Angel's clothes, and having Angel go with Groo to pick up the thing that'll allow her to have sex, is just her being oblivious. It was like that ep of Friends when Rachel was dating Russ.

I hope this doesn't sound anti Cordelia. It was her storylines that I hated.

@crazysoulless, To be fair it does make sense that Buffy would be referenced whenever Angel has a potential romantic interest as the Bangel relationship is the defining one for him. So that's unavoidable.

I loved the intentional parallels with Buffy during the Darla arc. It was always intended to be the inverse of Bangel and Tim Minear's writing was just superb!
And I didn't pick up til now, Angel gave Buffy a ring before sex and gave Darla a ring after sex.
I'm pretty sure it was before with Darla as well. She came to him looking for the ring, then Angel kissed her and they made with the sex.

Yeah that episode was fairly cringeworthy!

I love that Angel/Darla parallels Bangel *and* Spuffy in different ways.

When Buffy was referenced while he was with Nina, it made sense. Wesley said it was unlikely he'd experience perfect happiness (that kind of thing is rare in the 99.99%). He basically said if you can't have The One, make do with what you have. Angel made clear all s5 he wanted cookie dough, dreamt of Buffy, fought Spike, and said "I'm waiting patiently." So Nina was his beginning stages Riley. In fact, Angel thinking Buffy was in danger and rushing off to save her even though he was "hanging out" with Nina was just like BtVS s4 when Buffy found out Angel was in danger and rushed off to save him even though she was dating Riley. And in the comics Angel found out Nina got married, like Riley did.

With Cordelia, the show went out of the way to ignore the happiness clause and his immortality and the reasons he left Buffy (which would apply to anyone he had a big Kyrumption love with). S3 even started with Fred being told why she can't ever be in a romance with Angel and that Angel & Buffy couldn't get back together only for Fred and the rest of AI to start shipping him with Cordelia. They never explained why it was suddenly okay. Just talked about how worthy she now was.

All of this! Yes.

Haha I love this comparison!

Spike got the best break and got away with way too much, can't think about who got the least break right now.

The best :
Spike !!!!! I'm happy about that!!
Faith : She even took Buffy's place in S7
Wesley : He always suffers

The least :
Connor : It's like the writers want us to hate him in S4 and it's working
riley
Spike a little : He gets treated like a dog, pathetic (since S2 in his wheelchair) and convenient. As love's bitch since S3. The writers clearly want us to laugh throughout the show since S2 of him being pathetic. Even in ATS S1 he got ridiculized by Marcus. And we're supposed to have a good time of him being pathetic.

Best treatment Spike they forgot the program was called Buffy the vampire slayer
Worst treatment Buffy her character was destroyed to bring on Spuffy

The only place that I have read about Buffy being part demon is on this board , not in the show , not on any other board , in fact the only person to call her a demon was a demon , Buffy had a essence of a demon in her that increased her abilities , but at no stage was Buffy ever even indicated, or considered she was nothing but human

Buffy had a essence of a demon in her that increased her abilities
So this essence of the demon that was in her was so powerful that it transmogrified her; it was a part of her. It's not hard to conclude then, that she was part demon. That's not to say she wasn't human, but she wasn't wholly human.

I disagree doe's that mean someone with a plastic hip is part robot ? ....there is nothing physically to say that Buffy is nothing but human apart from her own senses , strengths and healing has been bolstered many times , Buffy inside and out is Human , total human biology , never heard Spider man being described as part Spider !
Buffy was a normal child until the essence of the demon enters her magically
Not sure why Buffy boards wants Buffy to be part demon ? as I put earlier never mentioned in the show or after ? or any where else I have seen , Does it make people feel easier for what Spike put her through if she is part demon ?
That being said something must mark out young girls to be potentials are they part demon to

I never said she was part demon. But as you said the essence of a demon entered her, thus, she was not wholly human. The demon was part OF her. You cannot deny it. It is fact. It is canon. I believe that is what people mean when they say Buffy is part demon. Not how you are interpreting it as she is some human/demon hybrid.

Maybe the slayer essence is like a parasite? It attaches itself to a host, with the side effect of giving its host powers, then when the host dies it moves onto the next one. It doesn't change its hosts from human but it affects them in certain ways. Some girls are more susceptible to being infected by the parasite (potentials) than others. The fact that you have watchers training potentials suggests that being a slayer doesn't automatically mean you have the slayer skills. Sure, you have the powers but you have to hone them. You can't immediately stake a vampire from the get go, you have to learn.

This means that the First's plan was essentially to eradicate the parasite that is the slayer essence by killing off those with the potential to be infected then killing those that are infected. It could also explain why not all potentials are found, if potentials show certain signs that point to them being potential infectees then not every potential will show the same symptoms.

I don't think the essence is a parasite , that indicates it is like a vampire, feeds of its host , using the hosts body ,it would also indicate one of the parents was a host , there has to be a certain something about individual females or every female may be a slayer....perhaps a certain gene make up ? its obviously something that both the watchers council and the First could not fully decipher

Again only on Buffy board, if she had a pace maker , hip joint , etc ,would you say she was part robot ? they assist with every day living just like the demon essence assisted her with the slaying, why would that make her part demon ? it enhanced her strength, hearing, speed, eyesight etc but not changed it it never changed who or what she was what she thought ....did the demon give her the dreams as well ? no ,they were as the strength just part of the Slayer packet
The only person that ever called Buffy a demon was Spike and only then after he found his chip had stopped working on her , no not Dracula , not the shadow men , not the watchers council or even the first
The watchers council sedated Buffy powers and under neath was just a 18 year old girl, no demon just a human

You're comparing apples to oranges. A pacemaker, hip joint, etc does not make a robot. The essence of a demon does make the demon. If Buffy had a hard-drive, or a CPU installed, then yes, I would say she had robotic parts. Just as in the show she had demonic 'parts'.

did the demon give her the dreams as well ? no ,they were as the strength just part of the Slayer packet
Yes, the demon essence did give her the slayer dreams as it gave her the slayer powers. The dreams were part of it.

The watchers council sedated Buffy powers and under neath was just a 18 year old girl, no demon just a human
That's because Buffy wasn't a demon. I never said Buffy was a demon.

The only person that ever called Buffy a demon was Spike and only then after he found his chip had stopped working on her

That was a logical conclusion on Spike's part, even if it was incorrect. He knows his chip allows him to hurt demons but prevents him from harming humans. When he first hit Buffy without pain, he thought it meant his chip had stopped working completely, however when he tried to kill that woman he was proven wrong. He went to get the chip checked and was told that it was indeed working correctly, ergo the only thing that was different was Buffy. If he could hurt demons but not humans and could hit Buffy, that must mean she was a demon and the she "came back wrong".

Buffy was never considered part demon until Season 7 when the demon essence was introduced to create the first slayer. Likewise, from Seasons 1-6, any girl could've been the slayer and Buffy was just the unlucky one chosen, however in Season 7 only some girls can be the slayer.

Buffy is sometimes thought to be "part demon" not because of Spike but because of Season 7.
