What Did the First Want Anyway?

I've posted a couple of threads recently giving my thoughts on this subject, but I'm interested in yours now. I want to learn. 🙂

What was the ultimate goal of the First in season 7? Was it just to attack human reality? Couldn't he have opened the Seal of Danzalthar, and attacked at any time in the past? Why now?

Beljoxa's eye says a disruption in the Chosen Line happened recently allowing the First to exploit some sort of vulnerability. What was that? How did the First plan to exploit it? How was it going to help him achieve his ultimate goal?

I think the disruption was buffys ressurection.

I think the first then realised that working backwards in the slayer line would allow the elimination of all slayers. killing watchers, potential, faith, then buffy, so no knew slayers could be activated. I think tht was the plan anyway.

This would then allow him an easier job of being corporeal and destroying/ruling this dimension/reality or something...I think!

The one thing I didn't get about the First's plan was how eliminating all known Potentials would destroy the Slayer line.
Isn't it supposed to be the noblest girl in the world? So... wouldn't you need to terminate every single female on the planet?

no cos not every girl had the potential to be a slayer. only the potentials could have been chosen. only they could have been given the strength and slayer qualities. if everyone of those were killed, even the nobelest girl left wouldnt have become a slayer. she wouldnt have the strength or abilities needed.

besides, i wouldnt call faith noble!

Where did this nobel thing come from? I don't remember that.

Also Buffy can't really be concidered nobel, she was like Cordy before she was activated!

Maybe who ever chooses the Slayer didnt see the representation on display, maybe they saw the person, the Slayer that the woman would become.........

But thats off topic.

I think the Firsts ultimate plan was to own Beach Front Property.
Prime real estate in southern California would make a killing, the only think standing in its way...The Slayer....

Awwww Yes that must be it, lol!
Ending the slayer line is definitely important to the First, they talk about it all the time, but isn't there a problem when you start to see ending the line as the ultimate goal of the plan?

If the First simply wants to kill all slayers, and potentials, why doesn't it just do it. It doesn't. The First tells Spike in Sleeper there's an order they have to die in. Buffy's not in order. The First wants to kill Faith from the beginning, but in Showtime it tells the Turok Han, "Kill them all. Except her".

Personally, I thought the bomb thing in Touched was stupid, but once the possibility of a bomb exists you have to ask yourself why didn't the First just bomb the Summer's house. Why did it wait until Faith and the potentials could be separated from Buffy?

Caleb likes to beat Buffy up, and tell her to back off, but he doesn't try to actually kill Buffy until after the Scythe is pulled from the stone.

If all the First wants to do is kill all slayers and end the line why doesn't it just kill Buffy?

Also, it may just be me, but does the First really seem that scared of slayers? To me he treats them more like just a nuisance.

I think the reason it didnt kill buffy was so no new slayer would be activated. It wanted all potentials dead, then kill faith, then buffy so there were no potentials left to turn into true slayers.

I thought the bomb was a bit un-buffy-like. If that makes sense.

But I still dont understand how buffys resurection was the opportunity to kill al potentials, because surely that could've been done at anytime? Am I missing something? Am I stupid? Is it the first thats stupid?...now I'm confused!

The only reason I can think of as to why The first would not kill Buffy would be so the slayer line would not move on and, maybe it wouldn't know who was active, I know thats crap but its the only reason I can think of.
Personally I think it would make more sense to Kill buffy and then have a new less experienced Slayer, so that makes me think there was something else it...

But doesn't the slayer line pass through Faith, and didn't the First try to kill Faith in the prison yard in ATS before she even came to Sunnydale in season 7 of BTVS? So if the First wants to stop the possibility of the slayer line passing on, does that mean the line doesn't pass through Faith any more, and that it once more passes through Buffy? Is that the corruption in the chosen line Beljoxa's eye speaks of?

Even so, if what the First was ultimately afraid of was simply the power of resistance a slayer can offer, why would it keep the Slayer alive who has shown the most effectiveness at resisting evil forces, possibly in the history of slayers?

That would have been my point. Why not kill Buffy immediately allowing a less skilled Slayer be called, thus being, probably, easier to kill.
Thats true! I forgot about the whole faith killing attempt. And a less experienced slayer would be easier to kill.

I still dont understand what Beljoxa's eye spoke of because the first could've attempted it at any time. Am I missing something? Or was this just a loose end left by the writers, or a mistake by them?

Ok this is just a thought I had, so there could be a major kink in it somewhere, but do you think it is possible the first made a mistake, and just assumed, because Buffy was the one actually fighting the forces of darkness, that she was the Active slayer, and that he did not even know about Faith, if you look at the episode order, In episode 11 in Season seven of Buffy Vi mentions that there is another slayer in the presence of the first, Then in episode 13 in Season 4 of angel, Faith is attacked by an agent of the First, that's Two episodes later!

I am not saying I believe this but I just thought of it? It could account for why suddenly the line is supposedly passing through Buffy again?

The first just wanted to be a normal boy!!:jumping03

Question though. If the First's priority is to become coporeal why now, and how does it plan to do it?

And Black Eye Guy, personally I have a problem believing the First could know enough about the chosen line to know there was a disruption in it, and know that even before Giles and Buffy, yet it wouldn't know about something as obvious as a second slayer. For one thing Faith was around in Amends wasn't she?

Also, doesn't the First know everything the person knew who he's impersonating? In the first episode of Season 7 the First impersonated Mayor Wilkins, and Buffy. They both knew Faith was a second slayer.

oh yes good point!
the first wanted to kill buffy and the line of slayers (potentials) and the watchers and anyone else who couls stand in his plan to domenate that dimension. and yes he knew that faith was the second slayer but if he just killed her it wouldn't make a diffrence he would still have buffy and a new slayer to take of so he just wanted to do it at once. and the first new that buffy was the stronger and had the scoobies to help her so she was more of a liability.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying the First doesn't want to kill Buffy, because it's afraid of her superior might?

The First tells the Turok Han "Kill them all...except her". Caleb looks like he could finish her off in the school, but he just walks away.

i do think the first is afraid of buffy if not he would have killed her off maybe by killing the rest she would have been weaker the first has many strange ways

Trying to figure out season 7 is like trying to tunnel through 6 feet of brick wall using only your head to do so.

The reason I think they don't kill Buffy, is because then the Slayers line will be reverted back to normal. With the line back to normal the First will have lost his opportunity..Or something...
