What Did the First Want Anyway?

The reason I think the first didn't want to kill Buffy is because the Turok-Han and later Caleb both could have killed her without breaking a sweat....at first, and Buffy the Vampire Slayers final season would have 'lacked' something if Buffy died earlier......i don't know what it would have lacked....but something.

But seriously.....the argument could be that he needed her to be the last in the line for some nefarious scheme.....maybe this is linked with the Scythe thread(PUREST of speculation here), but if the First is indeed trying to become corporeal or enter all humans, maybe the dark power, the human essence, Slayer blood is needed along the way.....BUT because Buffy was the one thats at the center of the Firsts plan...being she is the one that is thrust in the line again via magic, that it needs to be her life....i mean the woman in the cave said it was meant for her...maybe it was a live or die thing.....
The Faith part of the deal could be that because Buffy was forced back into the line, Faith didnt cause the disruption, thus meaning it mattered not when she died...

Like i say, thats all speculation.....but it might have some nugget that someone could use🙂

But doesnt the first think Buffys going to die when shes stabbed by a turok-han. The first taunts buffy causing her to get up and continue to fight. (which kind of saved her life, otherwise she may have given up) and The first also gives Buffy the idea of using the scythe doesnt it? I remember something like that anyway. So why does the first help in this way. Is the first completely stupid and inadvertantly helped Buffy in this way? Or was it intentional. The first wanted all potentials activated thus stopping the slayer line. In the 'final' fight when the first taunts her to get her up, perhaps this was also intentional. Perhaps buffy is needed for some apocolypse! Hello Buffy movie! lol.

Just a theory.

Trying to figure out season 7 is like trying to tunnel through 6 feet of brick wall using only your head to do so.

The reason I think they don't kill Buffy, is because then the Slayers line will be reverted back to normal. With the line back to normal the First will have lost his opportunity..Or something...

I hear ya on the tunnel thing, pal, and your reasoning concerning the slayer line is intriguing. What do you mean by getting "the line back to normal"? What is normal? How is the line abnormal?

Oh and Marc, did you ever notice the First and it's agents don't try to kill Buffy until after the scythe is out of the stone?

True! I forgot about that till you mentioned it. I've been reading about the scythe and peoples theories are great on some other threads.

I think that Psychotic Jackass is really onto something here!

We have debated the question of who the "active" slayer was by season seven around here quite a bit. The general consensus is that Willow's resurrection spell had a secondary effect of not only bringing Buffy back but also making her the active slayer again. This is theoretically the best guess as to what the Beljoxa's eye was talking about when it told Giles and Anya about a disruption in the slayer line. It would also explain a lot of the dialogue later in the season.

What if Buffy being alive again was causing a "feedback" in the slayerline, preventing the line from continuing. We know that each slayer should only die once and activate a new slayer once. If Buffy was suddenly technically the active slayer again then where does that leave Faith? If she dies then she is still due to activate a slayer but now Buffy is active again there becomes a loop. Buffy is officially active but Faith is the one who's death should activate somebody new. The power is going in a circle rather than a line.

That would not only explain the reason that it was neccessary to keep Buffy alive until the end but also explain what the disruption itself was. If Buffy was to die before the last potential was gone then the power would pass on as normal, bypassing Faith altogether and beginning anew in the new slayer. As long as Buffy lived then so did the loop and the First was free to use it to it's advantage, whatever that actually was.

As for the original thread question, the First wanted power, plain and simple. It had never had the opportunity before the slayer line disruption so that is why it made it's move when it did. It wanted dominion over humanity and to bring earth to it's knees. Nothing more to it.

How it was planning on doing that ... well, that is a subject best left for the Scythe Matters thread! 🙂
