What do people tell you when you tell them you're a Buffy fan?

Generally, I don't give people the chance to make fun of me for it. I got negative reactions from some friends, especially when I made them watch it with me on LOGO a couple years ago and of course Go Fish had to be on that night...

I have a geeky male friend who gets a little made fun of because...he's smart. I've yet to understand what's so funny about that but whatever. He doesn't hate...he watched a couple Angel and Buffy episodes with me one night. He pokes around at the comics on my bureau occasionally. The only positive reaction I get is from him.

It's always the same:
1) What's that?

Once a girlfriend asked me ? Why has a girl who haunts vampires a name like a teddy bear?? I had to laugh there!

In elementary they'd look at me with absolute confusion...or laugh. In middle school a girl told me that she wasn't allowed to watch it, and in high school the entire class laughed. It wasn't a malicious laugh or anything, I mean I wasn't offended haha. I've never been ashamed of Buffy, so I'd usually laugh with them. I'm not an overprotective fan when it comes to haters. If someone were to say, "I hate that show." (this has never happened) I'd say, or think, "Your loss." but if a fellow fan tells me that they're the biggest fan ever or that they could beat me in Buffy trivia (this has NEVER happened, mind you) I would tell them to bring.it.on. while burning a hole through their skull...with my eyes.

However...most of the time, when someone says that they "used to watch that show", I'll ask them what their favorite episode is, or what the last episode they remember was like...(so that I can freak them out by declaring which episode number it is/season it's from) they can never remember. I have yet to meet a Buffy fan my age, let alone a huge fan. It's not like I live in some hick town in the middle of nowhere either. It's odd. The biggest fan I know, besides myself, is my mom's 31 year old friend.

This pleases me. I don't like competition 😉

Yeah, I've gotten the "it's a kid's show" thing a lot. I also get the "oh you must be gay if your a guy who loves Buffy". I also get the "isn't that show like Sabrina the Teenage Witch?" I would tell you another "I also get the-", but then I'd have to kill someone. 😉
