I can watch this episode up to the point of Dawn's kidnapping. After that, it just gets so boring with all the dancing and prancing around.

really.. i thought the whole thing was awesome.. especially after dawns kidnapping
My favourite ep, no doubt...but I'm a sucker for musicals...it was the turning point of S6 in a lot of ways...everyone finds out where Buffy was, Tara finds out about Willow, setting up that for later, ditto with Anya/Xander, and Giles leaving.

yeah so very true ^ its one of my favorite eps of Btvs.. its just so awesome.. an ep you can watch non-stop (well for me anyways) and if i listen to the soundtrack their stuck in my head for ages!

Second everything you said there KD.
Me and Joamna watch this episode very often. Well at least once a month, and I keep expecting to get at least a little bit bored with it, but I never do. It's just, genius.

Funny thing, I found this guy in my class who is a Whedon fan but completely hates musicals, and doesn't think they serve a purpose at all. So I asked him about OMWF and he said that was a different thing all together, and that even though it was a musical, it was genius and he loved it. Made me happy 🙂

Yup. I always think that it won't be as fun to watch this episode as it used to be since we watch it so much, but it never gets boring, everytime I hear the music start I just get filled with excitement.. It's just such an intense episode with so much going on and all the songs and dancing around (and extra shiny colors).

i can never get tired of this ep either! :)
it is indeed the episode i have seen the most times, and im still not bored with it! i have every song memorized, and my friends say i have problems because of this 😛.

im not sure if you got your answer yet, but buffy sings 'going through the motions' and 'something to sing about' solo, has solos and/or sings with the group in 'walk through the fire' and 'ive got a theory/bunnies/if we're together', and spike sings 'rest in peace' as a solo, as well as sings with the group in 'something to sing about'. he and buffy both sing a part at the end, but im not sure what that's called. on the soundtrack cd (yes, i have the cd too 😛) it is called 'coda'.

and again you help me =) thank you so much
See although parts of it don't make sense(Xander!!!) and it is the ultimate in TV cheese and its not my favourite episode of that season let alone the show, I still find that I can watch it.
Though I have found occasionally i'll FFwd through the dialogue just for the songs......thats if I can't find the CD that is🙂

Because its meant to be Xander that called Sweet yet all through the episode he has no idea whats going on. Its an M. Night Whatisname type twist. Thrown in at the end but makes no sense.

LOL! M. Night Shlockmeister, isn't it?

True, doesn't make sense (didn't get that that's what "Xander!!!" meant 😉 ). Doesn't bother me too much though, or, doesn't make me love the episode any less..

Some musicals are better than others, but as an art form I think musicals are great whether on the screen or on the live stage. It's great to see shows performed live on regional theatre or on Broadway, although the latter is an expensive indulgence I can't partake of often! Still, I'm happy I live close enough to NYC to go see something if I really want to.

OMWF was amazing, daring television. I remain awed at that creation of Joss Whedon and the talents he brought out in his cast.

Could this have been done without a musical?
Surely the writers had done plenty of episodes prior to this with no singing. Did this one have to be done this way?

Of course, but some people like their TV to expierment with stuff. Thats what made Buffy so great it wasn't afraid to be different, most other shows every episode is exactly the same!
