what do you think about once more with feeling?

I owe my Buffy fangirlness to OMWF! I saw a commercial for it before it aired the first time, and although I had never watched Buffy before, I thought it looked like it could be really good. So I "boned up" on my Buffy before it aired by watching a marathon and a few scattered eps on FX, including the last few episodes of season two which, needless to say, really drew me in! Then when OMWF aired, that was all I needed to be officially hooked. It's probably my most-watched episode, because I can put it on while I'm busy around the house and sing along. 🙂 My son Xander likes it too because he loves music. He'll probably be singing along with it by the time he's three. :silly:

Oh, and as a Spuffy lover, I have other obvious reasons for appreciating it. :kiss:

I mean why make a musical episode, when Joss can just turn them into superheroes wearing tight spandex, or mermaids, or amazons, or have some gods from olympus make a guest appearance, or have them go back in time to save their younger selves? Hey now...leave Charmed alone. 😛 Just jokin' we all can have opinions. I love Charmed cause its mindless fun. I love Buffy cause it makes you think. Love them for different reasons. Anyhoo...back on point. I love the musical. To me it's one of the most brillant pieces of television I have ever seen. Done now.
 
i totally loved it. my friend makes fun of how big of a nerd i am whenever i sing it. which.. is pretty often lol
 
First post, odd that it ended up being in this thread... 🙂

While I was a huge fan of Firefly and Angel, I didn't start watching Buffy until about four weeks ago; I always figured the show was too silly, and knowing there was a musical episode confirmed in my mind that Buffy was not for me, since I abhor musicals in general.

Long story short - I grew to love the show (I mean REALLY love the show; I am totally obsessing about it now, hence my presence), and to embrace both the serious and thought provoking concepts, as well as the sillier ones. Now, despite of being in love with the show, I was apprehensive about OMWF. As I sat down to watch it, I steeled myself, expecting the worst.

Now, while I do think it draws out a little towards the end, against all odds, I really liked the episode! Some of the songs are a lot of fun, others are just very pretty (Amber has a beautiful voice). I also like the fact that the episode really furthers a lot of storylines; I was afraid the episode would be inconsequential for the bigger picture because it was a "concept" episode, but Joss proved me wrong once again, as he did with Hush (which, for the record, I expected to be good but still got blown away by).

This is the one episode I should never have enjoyed. But I did. 🙂
 
I love Once more with feeling.Actually I think it`s the best episode of Buffy.I love everything about it.And I agree it`s genuis and creative.
 
Once More, With Feeling holds a very special place in my heart.

I was never into Buffy until 2002 when my dad heard about there being a musical episode of this show. He taped it for me and we watched it together. Soon, my brothers started watching it with us. We also watched it with my mom and she thought it was a great episode. Eventually we all started watching it weekly.

One day I found out that there were new episodes of season 6 coming out. I had to watch them! I was very confused but I quickly fell in love with all the characters.

After season 6 was finished I patiently waited for season 7. In the mean time I quickly watched Buffy seasons 1-6 to catch-up before season 7's arrival.

So, just by watching one fantastic episode (OMWF) I became a HUGE Buffy fan. And when Buffy was over, I quickly became an Angel fan when I found out they were still making new episodes and that Angel was the main character! (I still was a little new to the Buffy/Angel-verse :silly🙂

Five years later and here I am! Still being an obssed Buffy fan! So, in the end, Once More, With Feeling has become a classic in my household. I've seen the episode at least 500 times and I don't know if I would have watched Buffy if it wasn't for this episode. Don't get me wrong! I love a lot of other Buffy episodes but this was so amazing to watch on TV. It was so new and fresh and the acting was great and the songs were awesome.
 
The thing that I find amazing about OMWF is that in the UK, it was voted better than Les Mis by Channel 4 viewers! I don't know if that says more about the episode, or the average Channel 4 viewer, however...

Anyway, the thing I have just noticed is that my three favourite episodes all play around with music and speech! Firstly, Hush really blew me away. I was expecting it to be fantastic, and was really looking forward to it as I watched through the DVDs, but WOW. Secondly, The Body goes without music entirely. It really adds to the despairing atmosphere. It totally goes against all TV rules and really benifits from it. Finally, OMWF. Just great. Tara and Giles' duet was inspired! Also, I loved that Dawn's Lament was cut off, not because I don't like Dawn but because she sounded exactly as you would expect and I'm sure everyone guessed the second line before she sang it. It was so cliched......but Joss was only playing with us!

Anyway, I think that the reason these episodes are so good is not because of the gimmick, but how the gimmick is used. They could have given us an empty shell of a musical, but they knew that it could be really special.
 
I loved it!!! It's my favourite episode! And the last part... it was so cool! Buffy and Spike kissing... 😀 And all of them had really good voices, and the songs were pretty cool. I loved Spike's song 'Rest in peace', and 'Walk Through the fire'... i mean i loved every songs... i can watch it over and over again! 😉
 
Well, I very much liked the episode. I love musicals, and it was very clever. As for the names of songs that Buffy and/or Spike sing:
"Going Through the Motions" (Buffy)
"I Have a Theory/Bunnies/If We're Together" (Buffy)
"Let Me Rest In Peace" (Spike)
"Walk Through the Fire" (Buffy, Spike)
"Something to Sing About" (Buffy, Spike)
"Where Do We Go From Here" (Buffy, Spike)
"Coda" (Buffy, Spike)
Please note that the songs "I Have a Theory/Bunnies/If We're Together", "Walk Through the Fire" , "Something to Sing About" and "Where Do We Go From Here" have other characters singing in them as well.
 
It was an okay episode, although in 'Something to Sing About' Tara, Buffy and Anya all had crappy timing when dancing and you could clearly see Tara walking into a pole then trying to keep a straight face afterwards. If that was an actual fight and not a singing performance I don't think Giles would've sent Tara and Anya as back-up! -lol-
 
i was just like whoa, such GREAT music really when you listen to it, i can't believe joss came up with all that... he's a multi-talented guy!
