What do you think about season 6?

For me, worst season ever.
I must say, I enjoy Buffy, even when she is at her worst, but some things I just can't stand in season 6. First thing, I hate seeing Buffy like that, all cofused, uhappy and lost. That is not Buffy I know and love, and I'm happy she got over that in season 7, I was really happy to get my Buffy back after long long time. Second reason is Spuffy. I close my eyes when they are on, I just can't stand it, and I can't feel love. It's not because I'm a hardcore Bangel fan (but that is one of the reasons), it's mostly because she has this face shape everytime she kisses him, like she is disgusted with herself. Xander left Anya, I really didn't liked that because I was cheering for them. Dawn is trouble maker again, hate her in seasons 5 and 6. Giles is gone, sometimes I miss him (but I miss library Giles most of the time). I really didn't liked Dark Willow, she was an intersting villian, but I can't see my favourite characters like that, now I see how it was simple while they were in High School. But season 6 got good episodes, like OMWF and Tabula Rasa (except Spuffy kiss - big yuck for me). And The Trio was funny 🙂

I enjoyed season 6 even though it was dark. Most of my favorite episodes and story arcs are in it. I don't know if it is my favorite, but it's a close second.

I can't pick a favorite season but I liked season 6. it was dark and depressing but interesting and I love Spike. His development is fascinating to me, especially when you consider that he fell in love with Buffy & started regaining some of his humanity before he ever got his soul back. Contrast that to Angel, who goes all psycho and only wants to kill her or torture her when he's Angelus. It's like Spike held onto some essential humanity that Angel didn't, IMO. You could always tell Spike was kind of a romantic, even when he was evil in the beginning. My least favorite thing about season 6 was Buffy, which is sad. I hated how she acted, how she treated the people around her (including Spike, how mean she was to him, but not ONLY him).

I'm a big fan of season six. Love the darkness, love being pulled through the ringer with all the characters I love. I think the fact that they went through all this hard, dark stuff makes the show so much better than if everything had just continued on being the same as always. That would have been totally boring. I do find the bathroom scene in Seeing Red almost impossible to watch but that is because it's really an ugly incident involving my two favourite characters. but it is a part of Spike's story and I accept that.

Also, totally love those Spuffy kisses in OMWF and Tabula Rasa. two of the best looking tv kisses ever

I don't like how it's dark and depressing, but I like what I've learned from it. Plus, the cast in season 6 has best outfits ever! Willow in this season is so yum yum to me. So is Tara.

I like episode 1-8, Doublemeat Palace, Hell's Bell, Normal Again, Dark Willow episodes.

Personally, I love season six. I don't find it to be too dark and depressing; because yes whereas there's the dealing with the ressurection, Dark Willow, Buffy/Spike sex, etc [Not all in that order, but you know] there's Once More, With Feeling, etc. to make it a little more upbeat on the whole, at least. I think part of the reason I like the season so much is because it was the first boxset I ever got and I watched it through quite a few times before I'd watched all the other seasons enough times. Yeah, there are a lot of dark and depressing episodes, scenes and arcs but it would be quite boring if for all seven seasons everything was all bright and cheery.
There're only a few episodes of season 6 I don't like too much (Such as Doublemeat Palace, As You Were, etc.) On the whole, it's a pretty good season; like most seasons of BtVS.

I love how Buffy progresses into a woman over night, i love that she has to face reality when her mum dies and she has all responsibilities in s6,
to pay the bills, look after Dawn, get a job, plus be the slayer.
I didn't like how Buffy was controlled by spike (in a way), I never liked how spike use to make out that she wasn't like the others' bla bla. He basically made her feel like crap. Even though their relationship grew into an 'unhealthy' 'relationship' i liked how it progressed in season 7, without all the hxC sex (buildings falling down)lmfao,, and the 'attempted rape',
I think season 6 has A LOT of funny episodes, although I've kinda sickened my self with season 6 ,

Season 6's downfall was certainly Hells Bells, omg i finally don't cry any more at that episode, it took me years!! lmfao.
My heart used to break every time i watched that episode seriously.

I have a question about Buffy's death/reserection. Why wasn't there a new slayer called? Buffy was dead and buried for 147 days, according to Spike, yet there was no new Slayer. Was this maybe due to Faith being around, even though she was in Prison?

Yes, Faith is not dead, so another slayer can't be called. Only way for them to get a new slayer is to kill Faith, and they didn't do that, I don't know why because she was in prision and couldn't figh against evil. BuffyBot did that 🙂

Well, I've already stated like a hundred times why I love Season 6 so much, but here I go again, briefly:

I, personally, feel I can relate to characters more then we watch them make mistakes and pick themselves up from the ruins. I agree with PrincessBuffy in the sense that yes, it was hard to see Buffy so sad and lost and confused....but this was the point of S6. Buffy dealing with being ripped from Heaven, her emerging feelings for Spike, her self-hatred, her family drama, and Dark Willow's grief. Joss said the Big Bad of this season was "life," and I couldn't agree more. This season contains some of the best and my favorite episodes of the series, in my opinion; Tabula Rasa, OMWF, Normal Again. I find the Spuffy dynamic absolutely fascinating in this season. How Spike allows her to use him as his personal punching bag and no-strings attached toy is disturbing yes, but it set the stage for the eventual attempted rape that propels him to make a serious change in his life which was so important to his journey as a character; getting a soul and earning Buffy's love. Sometimes terrible things have to happen in order to appreciate it when things are good.

All and all, despite the dark and dirty nature of this season, everything that happened was absolutely necessary (most, anyway.) We needed to see our characters attempt to "grow up" and deal with the realities of life, like working and failed relationships.

That said, there are some elements of this season I could have gone without, for sure. Willow's "addiction" to magic was executed quite heavy-handedly in my opinion. Willow is not my favorite character, but it was really hard for me to watch her go through the pain of Tara's death, and killing Warren really affected her.

I am still angry that it took Tara's death to wake up Buffy to how much of a threat Warren was. Her death seemed unnecessary. I imagine Joss got freaked out regarding the possibility that he might have actually created a happy couple for once in the 'verse (gasp!) and of course, had to kill her.

Jonathan and Andrew...my appreciation for them has increased over multiple viewings, but they still irritate me at times. Their constant referencing of movies and comics is amusing, but other than that, they don't do much for me, honestly.

What really irritates me is that some fans attempt to defend the merit of this season based exclusively on the fact that there's so much Spuffy action. I'm not saying I don't appreciate seeing James naked (oh, I do very much) but I can definitely see why some fans might find these scenes hard to watch. After all, "Dead Things" is one of my favorite episodes, but not because of all the naked sex action - because we see into Buffy's head, what she fantasizes and dreams about.

I hate it when some fans like "I love Season 6 is because there is so much Spuffy!" UGH. Kills me.

Oh I forget Normal Again, I like it very much.
But what I hate the most in season 6 is Buffy and Willow's relathionship. When Willow founds out that Buffy was in Heaven she is blaming herself because she was the one who brought her back, and she tried to solve that with magic, she didn't even talked to her, like she had nothing to say to her. And I was really mad because of that, because in season 3 when Buffy got back she was confused and she was trying to get Buffy to open up to her. And now she couldn't do that. And how Buffy didn't saw what was going on with her. I know she had her problems, but in season 6 it was like Buffy and Willow didn't existed.

Maybe I get it wrong, but I didn't like the end of the season.

So, Willow's addicted to magic, then Giles appears (I'd like to test that theory! everybody cheers up), Xander and his broken crayon speech make Willow cry and stop ending the world, when in fact Giles is full of "different charged magic energy" which will affect Dark!Willow and revert her to her normal human self. In other words, my drugs are better than yours.

Definately my favorite overall. Probably because it's the most similar to real life as far Buffy's confused lostness and Spike's manipulation of her (but really she allowed herself to feel like that so not his fault). Also the obviously hilarious episodes you listed.

Season 6 is one of my favorite seasons, even though it's painful to watch. Love the whole Spike/Buffy arc (though I'm a Bangel fan at heart). And how can you live without the musical?

Personally? Apart from a few choice episodes, everytime I watch season 6 I like it less and less. I find it offensive, at times badly executed and even when it is trying to be hopeful I find it downright bleak.

I really loved the first 8 episodes, up to Tabula Rasa was great. But like Kean, i like it less the more i watch it. It was probably the most boring season. From Smashed onwards, there was no real standout episodes, except maybe Normal Again. And Spuffy and Dwillow didn't really create big hitting eps.

I have thoroughly mixed feelings about season 6. I thought Buffy's confusion and depression upon her return were very well played. I can understand why many fans get frustrated or annoyed with it, but for me it felt totally natural and I was as attached to her character is I always had been.

I found her relationship with Spike fascinating as well. It made sense that she would turn to him, as he was really the only one she felt she could be herself with. I think she feared everyone else would look on her with contempt, or at best pity, if they realised how detached and depressed she had become. I imagine it also helped that his soulless nature meant she could take out her anger on him and tell herself that he deserved it (as in Dead Things in particular). And of course Spike would be willing to be her toy, punching bag, and more or less anything else as long as he gets to be with her. The relationship wasn't very healthy, but then it was never supposed to be.

Also, I actually liked Warren as a villain. What he lacked in physical power he made up for with intelligence. In terms of personality I think he was far more interesting than, say, Glory or Adam, and I found him quite relatable in some ways despite his being a hateful sociopath.

On the other hand, I thought Willow's arc went totally off the rails around "Smashed/Wrecked", when her growing power trip was cast aside in favour of an anvilicous drug addiction metaphor (if you can even call it a metaphor, given that she literally was using magic as a drug). And I can't stand Dark Willow.

I thought the attempted rape was ham-handed as well - it felt forced, as though it was written in to remind everyone that Spike was a bad bad man, as well as to propel him to get his soul restored.

Tara's death really annoys me too - I think this is where Whedon really started to fall into the "happy relationships must end in death" cliche he's become notorious for - it had happened before with Jenny and Giles, but it felt much more natural then.

Oh, and I can't stand Andrew. I simply don't find him believable as a human being - he comes across as a total caricature of nerdiness. He gets even worse in the seventh season, but he still grates on me here.

So overall it's far from my favourite season, but I do still find plenty to love about it.

I like season 6. Sure, it's kinda depressing, but it makes for good tv. Although not really the sort of thing you'd watch if you wanted some light escapism.
