I was curious about you and spoilers. Not just about Buffy, but for anything.
Do you like hearing spoilers before you watch/read something, or do you like to walk into it without knowing anything and be surprised?

I define myself as a spoiler slut. I look for them, I don't like surprises. I like to know what's gonna happen so I'm well prepared.

What about you?

I don't really care to be honest. I think if you're on the internet you should expect things to come out, unless you install filters on websites like Tumblr. If I see a spoiler I'm not going to kick up a fuss as I'd have found out anyway. I like surprises but any spoilers wouldn't reduce the enjoyment I get from reading the book or watching the show, if it's done properly.

What I hate is when people have an issue with spoilers from books that have been out for longer than 18 months. There's been plenty of time to read it so really if you haven't then it's your own fault. I won't go out of my way to spoil people but really they should know better than to get involved in a conversation about something that they're not fully up to date on.
 
Wow, I am just loving these topics!! I love love love not knowing what's going to happen next. I really enjoy the process of watching stories unfold...

That being said I also severely lack in the patience department and rarely can wait to talk about something before I've finished it so I understand the risks involved and never get offended at accidentally seeing or hearing about something I haven't seen yet.
 
It depends. For example, I watch General Hospital. And I do read soap mags sometimes so I have a vague idea of what is coming up, though I don't read enough to spoil everything. I don't do that as much for primetime shows. I just watch episode to episode, though I pay some attention to casting news and the like.

For movies, I avoid spoilers like the plague. For example, when Scream 4 came out, I was very careful to not visit the IMDB boards during the last few months before release out of fear the killer(s) would be revealed to me.

So basically if my enjoyment of it can be majorly impacted by reading spoilers, like knowing the killer in a murder mystery, I won't read the spoilers. But I don't mind knowing a little something about what's coming up in the story.

And I agree with the others, CE, always a pleasure to post in one of your topics. 🙂
 
That really depends. I like buying a movie without really knowing what's it about.
It was that way with Serenity and Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I just thought, "Screw it, I'll just buy that movie."

I also hate knowing what's going to happen in a TV series, for example How I Met Your Mother.
Or even with Buffy, which I've watched three times now. When I put in the DVD, I close my eyes while choosing the episode, because I don't want to know what the episode is about. If I saw just one picture, I would know.

But sometimes I read reviews and plot summaries. Sometimes I just want to know if the movie is going to be a disappointment or maybe not.
 
I used to be a spoiler slut to a point. When 24 was on, I actively chose not to find spoilers for that show. Never that show. All other shows, fine.

Now, I just realized that I actually like being surprised. So no, I don't seek out spoilers anymore if I can help it. If I can't, that just ticks me off. LOL!
 
I hate spoilers. and I hate myself when I click on or read a spoiler... which I do WAY too often with season 9 related spoilers. But other than that, I don't do spoilers. I don't even watch the "next week on" teasers because I consider those spoilers. It's hard to avoid spoilers.. I've gotten SO many for the HIMYM premiere coming up in a couple weeks, for example... but I manage pretty well.
 
I hate spoilers. At least, I hate spoilers that spoil movies/shows that I care about.

This exactly. I have been a hardcore Scream fan since my early childhood when I first watched the trilogy (which was the first of a million more times), and when Scream 4 came out, which was going to be my FIRST (and maybe last) Scream movie to see in theatres, I made sure not to read any Scream sites or anything when it was released so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it myself. 🙂

Spoilers just spoil things for you. I hate them.

I'm the complete opposite, I knew who was dying, when and how, who the killers were and half of the dialogue before I even got to the cinema. I actively seek out spoilers on most things.
 
Sometimes, I like spoilers. But I don't like when other people spoil me, without me asking for it. If I'm going to read them, I'd like it to be because I decided so.
 
I generally hate spoilers. When 24 was on, I used to put my hand over the credits so I wouldn't see who was appearing in the episode. Unfortunately, my husband spoiled most of the major moments of that series for me. Also during season 8 I made the mistake of checking Facebook during a couple of episodes, and my east coast friends unintentionally spoiled me for Hassan's death and Renee's death. (It was my fault, though.)

That said ... during the long wait for season 7 (writer's strike) of 24, I heard a rumor that Bill Buchanan (my favorite character) was going to die. I knew I'd be traumatized by that, so I actively sought out spoilers and by the time the ep aired I pretty much knew everything about it, which eased the shock somewhat.

I didn't come here until I had finished all of BtVS, so as to avoid spoilers. But some spoilers are inevitable with a series that has been off the air so long. For example, I knew Giles would not die in Spiral (impaled by a spear) because I knew he was in season 6. I knew Buffy didn't stay dead in The Gift because it would be difficult to have two more seasons without her.

I have been spoiled on some AtS things, but that's the risk I took coming here before I had finished AtS.

I actually thought about that but I still don't know how to mask them, and I'm going with the principal that a "spoiler" truly is only something that hasn't yet aired.
I have no problem with spoilers at all. I normally seek them out because while I a spoiler might tell me what happens it does nothing to actually the viewing/reading of the show/movie/book.

Just taking the Buffyverse comics. I hunt down as many spoilers as I can on the net but they never ruin my reading because whatever idea those spoilers have conjured in my mind, the actual reading experience is totally different.
 
Spoilers don't bother me one way or the other. We all knew that Spock was going to die t the end of "The Wrath Of Khan," but that didn't tale away one little bit from the experience of actually seeing it. It's the same for me with any spoiler, any show, any time. Simply knowing the final destination doesn't detract from the enjoyment that I get on the way there.
 
For me it really depends upon the show. I hate to be spoiled for Castle.

But I can handle Bones spoilers.

I'd rather not hear spoilers. I watched Buffy completely unspoiled (except for the AR, I knew that was coming, but I think I preferred it that way - at least I was prepared ahead of time).

I don't mind teasers, for example the website Digital Spy posts 10 teasers about each Doctor Who episode before it airs, and I find that just whets my appetite to see the show, rather than ruins the whole thing. However if I knew exactly where the season story arc was going that would be a shame.

I like not knowing what's going to happen, but I have a very low patience level so sometimes waiting drives me mad and I have to try very hard to stay away!
 
Sometimes I look up some spoilers, but only if I can't stand the curiosity. For example, when Tara went 'crazy' in BTVS season 5, I looked up if she was going to be okay again, because I couldn't stand the thought that she would stay that way. But mostly, I watch shows without spoilers.
 
I am split. I don't like to know things for the sake of knowing, but I also am not a huge fan of surprises or suspense- so if something is too cliff-hanger-iffic, I'll totally jump on Wikipedia.

I'm trying really, really hard not to do that with Torchwood or Puella Magica Madoka Magi (the two things I'm currently watching). But it's hard because I run a Magical Girl Confessions blog, and EVERYONE in my family besides me has seen Torchwood. So I accidentally get them, and that makes me sad.
