What do you think of the smoking ban in pubs and clubs?

I'm a semi-smoker and I can't dissassociate smoking and drinking. I hardly ever go to NY clubs or bars for that reason alone...not to mention it's too much of a hassle, but they're going to implement it in NJ too which is going to stink, especially in the winter.

I never really smoke in restaurants, so I'm ok with that, but even people who don't normally smoke, smoke when they drink. Its' a bit too controlling of the gov't and it's really annoying...just my $.02 worth...

You need to :jumping03 when you're :drink: It's the twelth law of physics. If I remember correctly it's also one of the ten commandments, damnit!

You know, I totally agree with DDLM.

I am a non-smoker now..but I was a full-blown smoker when they brought the ban in here 3 years ago.

Truthfully, I feel VERY badly for the business that had to shut down because of lost business due to the ban.

I live in Canada..it's minus 33 Celsius outside today. Try going out to smoke in THAT. BRRR.

I feel that if the government is going to ban a legal substance in a proprieters building, then they should be offering some VERY heavy subsidies to these businesses.

Now, we have a new law that states that you can't have smoked in your residence for 24 hours before a home healtcare worker comes in. Think elderly people who need nurses and home care. Seriously..these are 80 year old people who have been smoking for probably 65 years of their life..started because their government swore to them that cigarettes didn't cause cancer, and now they can't smoke in their own homes??? Sick.

I'm with DDM also not that i smoke either just that if people want to smoke fine, just don't inflict the smoke over those who don't.
I reckon Pubs and Clubs should have selected areas where people smoke, not around the bar.
As for Food places i'm all for a ban as it is unhygienic

You see I think most smokers are considerate people. I would never inflict my smoke on non-smokers if they were against it.

We've just had our smoke room at work taken off us, but it wasn't just smokers who went in there. A lot of the non-smokers used to come in to chat with us as we all had a laugh. The people who had a problem with the smoke, stayed in the other staff room. Strangely though it's them that have petitioned for our room to go!

I know that I feel bad if I smoke around someone who is a non-smoker and doesn't like my smoke. I always feel bad and put the cigarette out. It's just polite!

Well, I'm on the fence for this one. I think it'll be good for my health if people don't smoke in the pubs but only because I get a craving for a cigarette when I'm drinking and others are smoking around me.

But I also get why people are upset about it. I have a lot of friends who are smokers and they enjoy a smoke when they are socialising.

The positive thing is that it might get some people to cut down or even stop smoking. The negative thing is what if these people don't really want to stop? So I can't decide if it's good or bad.
