The Strangers: Chapter One (2024) - 3/10
Bodes well for the rest of the trilogy😁 The director still directs everything like a 1980s action movie🤣 Madeline Persch deserves much better.

Satan’s school for girls (2000) - 5/5
Shannen Doherty, Julie Benz, Kate Jackson, Richard Joseph Paul… crappy tv-movie dream team! Out of cheesy 00’s small screen movies this one hits all the spot - most of the cast is better than the material, supporting cast is mediocre and campy, the vibes are there, the special effects are hilarious. I could watch this over and over and never get bored. It’s dumb, but the kind of dumb I enjoy.

The Killing Secret (1997) - 3/5
Soleil Moon Frye in a teenage murder drama. What do you do if you’re a rich boy with two girlfriends - one for the future, one for sex - and one ends up pregnant threatening your future? *cue ominous music*

Surprisingly effective as it switches perspective to the good girlfriend’s journey into a relationship with the other girl’s mother and a slow realisation that her dream beau may not be so dreamy after all.

Ari Meyers was good in this, I started to movie thinking she was ”meh”, to rather loving her by the end

Dead before Dawn (1993) - 2.5/5
Cherryl Ladd in a based on a true story movie about a divorcing couple where the husband plots to kill his wife. It is a pretty good movie but it dragged at bits. The abuse scenes were upsetting though.

For my daughter’s honor/Indecent seduction (1996)
The stand out of this movie is that it has Alyson Hannigan in a supporting role which I didn’t know until the movie started. Happy surprise, it is right before Buffy obviously so she is very Willow-esque

Also, Sarah Rue! For Popular fans.

But… This movie made me so uncomfortable I don’t even know how to rate it. The teacher-student romance between Nicholle Tom and Gary Cole feels so realistic in a way that made me feel really icky. The grooming aspect is front and center and I almost wished for a trigger warning honestly. It is based on a true story so I guess the actors did a good job, especially Gary Cole being a creep.

I was shocked to see Renny Harlin’s name pop up in the credits. My first thought was “wow the Cutthroat Island guy is back?”

The last film I remember him being involved with was that abysmal Legend of Hercules movie that looked like it escaped the SyFy channel.
 
Love Lies Bleeding (2024) - 6/10

Some films just don't connect with you no matter how many good things are in them. This was one of those films for me. The ending was pretty wild at least 😛

You Only Live Twice (1967) - 6/10

Not bad for a later Connery Bond. The highlight is Donald Pleasence as Blofeld. Its impressive how deep into the movie he first appears and how long it is until we see his face (its worth the wait). He has the best line of the movie too, "extortion is my business" 😀 The main problem is how neive Bond comes across and how weak he looks throughout the film. The whole Japanese culture training stuff makes no sense (IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MISSION!!!🙄),and should have been cut from the film. The Nancy Sinatra title theme is one of my fave Bond themes.
 
Furiosa - 7/10

Honestly fine, but not as good as Fury Road was. Too much CGI, cartoonish vehicles, and a plot that meanders all over the place. Goes on way too long as well.

Barbie - 6/10

Seeing the movie, I know why this was selected for Oscar’s, but like this thing is just not all that great. I got bored by the end and the film’s message is so in your face that it overrides the “Barbie in the real world” premise.

It’s clear Gerwig tried to do LEGO Movie with Barbie, but she didn’t see what really worked well about that film.

Good songs though.

The Barbie movie is, unironically, a better Ken movie. Ken is the better character.

Fury Road is a fantastic movie. I read an article a day or so ago that Furiosa has severely under-performed at the box office.

Exeter (2015) 4/10
Nothing to do with UK Exeter ( or Exeter-Prime as it is known) just the name of some random abandoned spooky orphanage where a bunch of teens go to party in. All the teens are varying degrees of irritating, there's a few neat death scenes and a lame twist that doesn't make any sense and makes you question the point of the movie. Forgettable trash.
 
Under Paris 8/10
Lost two points for the slow start, but the last 10-20 minutes are perfect! 😁 Haha. This is a great disaster movie, would be suitable for one of those react people, because it just gets better and better and better and I hope they do a second movie!
