Question What if Bangel don't end up together? What then?

To answer to OP, honestly, I suspect the world would keep turning. I suppose that statement now has resonance considering recent events.

I mean to be honest there are only so many "I love you but we can't be togethers" you can hear before it starts to bug the crap out of you.

Oh right because they belong together right? Well...times change, "Always and Forever" becomes "Sometimes" and "If ever", that's proof that nothing is for certain.

Well nothing is for certain aside from true love. You see Bangel is seen as true love and true can stand the test of time. The thing is, true love can only be tested by time. In other words, we'll see.
 
If ever there comes a time where there was no chance of them being together, if all possibilities were exhausted and it was literally impossible for it to happen then, yes, I think I would be done with the 'verse, one I'd followed since I was 8.

It's not that Bangel is the reason for my watching. Rather, it's my experience of watching it on the original run (in the early years) and forming my own fan-foundation on the show foundation: their relationship. Even when they were on different shows we were watching how they could cope apart, yet one anothers influence seemed to linger in the air for me. I was able to enjoy the later seasons because I knew the roots of the show and experienced them as they aired and felt with it. To have the roots ripped outta the ground and tossed aside for a new tree, if you will, is a different universe other than what I know.

The belief that Buffy and Angel will come together in the future maybe does help give some conviction but their past already made that exist, anyway. Though, like [MENTION=7585]Kean[/MENTION] said, I, too, firmly believe that if they could be together they would be which means a lot for me.

I'd still stick with the ship no matter what. Heck, I have for 14 years, ain't stopping now! Good topic question.

But that's the very center of the situation. Joss will NEVER set up a situation where all hope for a life together for Buffy and Angel (or Buffy and Spike, for that matter. He's an equal opportunity torturer) will be lost. He will continue to dangle that possibility out in front of the fans like a carrot in front of a balking horse. As long as the mystery continues, we will each hold out possibility for our own chosen ship, and will, therefore, continue to watch and hope.

Well all hope for Willow/Oz is completely gone and I'm still with the verse so although I'm equal opportunity Bangel and Spuffy if all hope for both of them was lost I would still keep up with it because the romantic relationships aren't the reason I watch.

As far as I know, I never heard something like that from Joss, he always gave an equal importance to Spike and Angel in Buffy's love life, so I'm curious to know, because it's not what I think he thinks. Why does it seem weird that I ask ? 😕

I think Joss said something along the lines of Buffy will always love Angel or they will never really get over each other or something like that. That doesn't mean they can't love someone else equally as much.

Oh I know he won't set it up, I was just answering the question that was hypothetically put out there. It's a Dawson-Joey-Pacey sitch, only that had to be wrapped up 'cause no one put their shows into comic form then let alone I don't know who'd read a DC comic ... lol. The Buffyverse is now the new Archie comics; which one will Barchie choose: Veronike or Angetty?
 
Even if they were to end up with other people, you can never take away what they had. And because of that, I will always ship them.

I was referring to your "there time has passed" comment; not the fact that they've had other relationships. Since Joss is still telling BOTH Angel and Buffy's story we don't know their future; therefor any of our speculation is opinion. 😉

More of an educated guess, I would say, that either speculation or opinion. In the Whedonverse, we see one consistent ongoing theme. NOBODY gets a "happy ever after," no matter how much the fans cry for it. About the closest that we ever saw on the various shows were Xander and Anya, Willow and Tara, and Wash and Cloe, and they, ultimately, were doomed. Buffy and Angel love each other, will always love each other, and will never be able to have anything more than a few isolated moments of happiness before something, usually involving death, destruction, or tragic fate, comes along to pull them apart. Just like Spike said, the Slayer ultimately fights alone, an the same could be said for her life in general. No cottage, picket fence, and fat happy babies for Buffy, not with Angel, Spike, or anyone else.

I agree, I don't think we will get a happy ending for any ship....my only point was that we don't know any of their futures for sure. :)

Sierra/Victor from Dollhouse has probably the "happiest" ending, although not without it's bumps along the way.
Pfft. I have my own very detailed post-"Chosen"/"Not Fade Away" fantasy world in which Angel already Shanshued and he and Buffy are married and on their way to having kids. Same with Willow/Oz (minus the Shanshu bit, obviously), even though the chances of married-with-kids-Willow/Oz becoming canon *are* nonexistent. So no, I don't think my shippiness will be affected if canon ever categorically states that Buffy and Angel will never ever be together again. But I'm not really worried about that anyway because I seriously doubt that it will.

Buffy/Angel has always felt like the endgame to me. However, that is exactly the problem when we're dealing with a 'verse that has no ending in sight. Since Joss has never been interested in exploring the kinds of stories you can tell about two people who are allowed to be happy together, them getting back together in a permanent sort of way would be reserved for the happy ending, which requires a) Joss to be willing to give them a happy ending and b) the story to actually end, both of which seem unlikely to happen any time soon. So even though I don't think canon will ever tell us that Buffy/Angel is over for good, I'm basically resigned to it getting postponed indefinitely. They're pretty much stuck in a crappy "tomorrow never comes" situation, which will only get more and more irritating over time, and if it goes on long enough, I will probably lose what little patience I still have for the comics and retreat back into the aforementioned fantasy world.
 
Even though I love Buffy and Angel as a couple, I think after Season 8 they need to be done romantically. They can be friends, and they should be, but I don't think they should end up together. There is way too much water under the bridge at this point.

I agree that Buffy and Angel will never be friends. To much has happened.

My question is; when does it get to a point where you just give up and stop trying? Buffy and Angel has tried to be together. What has happened? Pain, destruction, and loss followed by crippling regret and guilt. The way I see it there are no two people meant more not to be together than these two. Angel killed her father, respectively. They almost destroyed the world together. I feel like that's a mood killer.

If they were to try to be together again, I'd be very disappointed. I think they should have learned their lesson. They're not morons; they're dreamers I get that - but at what point do you just give up? Throw in the towel, or whatever. IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK. EVER.

In terms of who she'll "end up with", I think there's a lot to be said about the Slayer always being alone. I think in the end she will be alone. She's a hero, and hero's are always alone in the end. That's just how the story goes.

Do I want Spike by her side? Of course.
