See, that's just the problem - there is no life to save. Angel is dead. I don't believe the existence of a vampire, even an ensouled one, should have as much value as a life, even that of a not-exactly human. Although that might not be what Buffy believes in.
Actually, I think she is. She forgives those she finds useful, those who will follow her. Everybody else can go to hell. As long as you're of use and compliant every atrocity is forgiven.
But I agree that I do find it troubling that she could justify taking a human life to save the life of someone she deems more important/valuable to her.
