Question What if Dawn had been Faiths sister, instead of Buffys?

Since the monks also didn't alter the histories of everyone involved in essence, Faith would still be going to jail with Dawn most likely ending up with Buffy and Joyce anyway. Everything else would miss the whole point of protecting the Key from Glory. Can you imagine a Mini-Faith living with Buffy under one roof? Poor Buffy, she could barely deal with canon Dawn. 😀

She might break out or the conviction would have ended differently , due to Faiths circumstances. The monks did not alter much, but there were still alterations. Like new things (Joyce calling Buffy little pumkin belly, or Buffy telling Dawn that marshmellows are monkey brains) or changes in relationships, like Hank Summers, who did contact Buffy when she did not have Dawns, but when Dawn appeared, he left both his daugthers. Also Buffy stayed longer with Angel. So there might be small changes with Faith too.

Mini- Faith is interesting in so many ways regardless, whether she would have ended up with Buffy or with Faith or with Faith and Buffy. Her memories with the Mayor, her reaction towards Glory or Faiths possible sacrifice, her going to high school later on, her tastes and appearances, just to name a few things.
And this goes also for shy Dawn or girly Dawn by the way, the reactions and relationships would be totally interesting
 

Maybe if the show was Faith, the Vampire Slayer. But cause it's Buffy's show, I get why they chose her and not Faith. But I agree it would have been a more interesting story. And of course I want more Faith.
This sounds like a nicer Dawn. Less "get out, get out! GET OUT!". Which was annoying.

I seem to be the only one who did not find it that annoying considering the circumstance that she just had find out she is the key. Nevertheless i guess DAWN LEHANE would have reacted totally different and the scenes would be less more thoughtful, dark, ambivalent.

Buffy would not be able to sacrifice herself, since only related blood can stop the keys powers. I think she and Joyce would have taken her in, due to compassion. Faith would definitely break out of prison and sacrifice herself, because she is into family and Dawn would be the only person she has a familial bond too.
Now i am also thinking that season 6 Buffy would get the idea to bring Faith back, which would lead to season 6 being all Fuffy in stead of Spuffy

Yes, the small changes were there. But Faith not going to jail is a BIG one. I'm not that familiar with the comics but I recall a picture of Angelus holding Dawn by her throat instead of Willow in "Innocense", but that could've been also a fan comic. However, if it's true then that's the biggest change so far.

Mostly, the memories of Dawn were molded around the already existing ones. I think that Buffy & Co. would figure out that Dawn's the key and made of Faith's blood, break her out of prison and Faith's end up sacrificing herself. Quite the redemption.

Buffy couldn't sacrifice herself, even if she wanted to, since Dawn is made out of Faith's blood.

As for Buffy wanting to resurrect Faith; she would need Willow who probably wouldn't be that eager unless something crucial happened in S05 which made Willow and Faith bond. Even if Buffy talks her into doing it, it would be a strong alteration to the addiction arc.

Dawn says to Buffy that she has been with Angel for three years, whereas in reality it was a little less. Also i think it is not a fan comic regarding Willow.

The Dawn Lehane needs her sister argument would be good one i think, also if Buffy fall in love with Faith during S5 and would be all sad without Faith, Willow would do it out of friendship. The addiction arc would still happen since it is related to Tara and could be related to any other lover of Willows, if the love is strong enough.

After attempting to gay bash Tara, alienating Buffy and Anya by throwing herself at their boyfriends and stealing from Giles liquor cabinet, a drunk Dawn is kidnapped by Harmony and her gang after rushing out of the house to vomit. She begins to warm up to the Buffy and friends when they rescue her despite her atrocious behavior and is hurt that Faith was nowhere to be found while she was in danger.

No Place Like Home

We meet a powerful new villain named Glory who easily takes down both Buffy and Faith. A monk indicates that Dawn may not be Faith's sister but dies before he can explain further. Faith and Dawn go on the The Maury Povich show for DNA testing and it is revealed Dawn is actually The Key and both sisters have Hep C.

Family

Claiming she's "not into all that gay sh*t, yo" Dawn plans to skip Tara's 20th birthday party for moral reasons. While mugging people in the park, she is rescued from the cops by a lesbian vampire couple. Having a change of heart, she rushes back to the party just in time to lecture Tara's homophobic family on how there's more to a person than their choice to be gay.

Shadow

Dawn runs away from home after being accused of stealing Joyce's medicinal marijuana. She falls in with an enchanted pimp named Snake who was sent by Glory. Joyce remembers she had actually smoked the weed with Spike and Buffy rescues Dawn before Snake can bring her to Glory.

Into the Woods

Riley and Buffy go onto the Maury Povich show where Riley shockingly reveals that he's been cheating. Maury brings out the other woman who happens to be a vampire. Buffy and the vampire get into a hair-pulling, slap fight before Buffy remembers she's the Slayer and decapitates her opponent with a chair.

Checkpoint

The Watcher's Council is in town, and Faith plans to pump Quentin Travers for information on Glory. Unfortunately she's too much him and he dies of a heart attack. Could his final words ("Oh God, oh God, oh God") be some sort of clue?

Joyce Summers suddenly dies. This episode features few cuts, little in the way of a score and zero decency as Dawn helps herself to Joyce's fillings. Cha-ching!!

Intervention

A drunk Faith finally works up the courage to confess her true feelings for Buffy. Unbeknownst to her, she actually confessed to the Buffybot. Upon sobering up and discovering the truth, she sets out to retrieve the robot before it can reveal her big secret to gossipy Glory.

Last episodes revelation proves too much for the Dawn, who while fine with homosexuality "on TV and stuff", refuses to accept her sister as a lesbian and declares them no longer family. An upset Faith runs into Glory who promises a "gay cure" but instead brain sucks the Slayer. Dawn is then visited by dancing vengeance demon Ellen D'Hoffryn but instead of wishing for anything nasty to happen to Glory, wishes for a bottle of Mountain Dew and some Cheetos.

Glory has kidnapped Dawn and plans to use her magic key blood to return home. The gang invades her junkyard hideaway where Glory is suddenly killed by Maury Povich who reveals himself to be Maurifycus, the true Big Bad of this season. He opens the portal and returns home. Sick of Dawn's antics, Buffy throws her from the tower and with her death, the portal closes.

Dawn living that thug life...

Buffy and Faith should have both been in Season 5 as her parents, arguing over how to raise a child (two slayer moms fighting kinda brings a whole new meaning to domestic violence, doesn't it?) before going on the Maury Povich show to work out their problems.
 
On that note, I could totally see Spike as a guest on that show. After Buffy and Faith leave they are shocked to find Spike is up after the commercial break. The episode closes with Nicholas Brendon coming on to talk about his struggles with alcohol abuse and Xander wondering if his twin from The Replacement is still out there somewhere...
 
Also, there should be a thread where we give 'alternate' synopses of Buffy episodes by how we think they should have gone. 😉

I think Dawn would have been much rougher around the edges and more mature. That said, I think Faith would have let her sacrifice herself in "The Gift" to save the world. Whole different story line...

Yes, especially in the comics when she is grown up.

About Dawn being Faiths sister:
1.I think EITHER Faiths memories would be implanted in her in terms of the Mayor, which would make her very attached to him. I think maybe it would be her, who wears that pink dress and gets ice cream from the Mayor. Possibly she would try to resurrect him instead of Joyce due to feeling lost and wishing someone who would fight Glory.
Or:
In her memories Faith would be the preferred sister in the Mayors eyes, which would make her carve for a fatherly/brotherly figure, this figure could be Spike, more even, than it was the case with Dawn being Buffys sister.

2.I do not think Faith would let Dawn sacrifice herself, since she is very carving to have a family. Perhaps the season finale would yet be more dramatic, with Faith being grateful to have had a familial bond and also Buffy and Faith confessing their feelings for each other. At the end Buffy would be left in a devastated state, loosing Faith.

3. After being affected by the discovery of being the key in a similar way as Dawn Summers did, she would become herself again quicker and try to find out if she has any powers and that like.

4. Her questions and behaviour towards Glory in "Ties that Bind" would be more cunning, yet she might be also more impulsive and reckless.

5. Her reaction towards the big snake conjured by Glory would be more calm, or she would attempt to fight it right off.

6. She would bond more with Anya, than with Tara, perhaps due to the fact that she and Faith are poor and carve more for monetary things.
