Awesome thread!
I've never bought anything on Itunes or elsewhere where you pay and download.
I hate that download stuff. When I buy music, I wanna hold it in my hands. I wanna touch it and look at it and smell it (old LPs smell so awesome 😀).
I own some of the following albums twice, as CD and LP. One of them I have even twice as CD and once as LP.

Don't blame you, he is great live. Only saw him briefly at Glastonbury a few years ago but it was when he sang 'Hallelujah.' It was spellbinding to see the crowd all singing along and hugging strangers, etc. It's good to see him still doing what he loves at his age, I doubt he needs to anymore.

There is not one bad song on this album, but I guess "Love Song" would be my least favorite.

Best Moment
1. When the drums kick in during the song "Like A Prayer."

2. The melody on "Till Death Do Us Part." It's a song about an abusive marriage, yet the melody is very fast and almost upbeat.

3. During the final song "Act Of Contrition" where Madonna is standing at the gates of heaven, and says she has a reservation, then screams "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS NOT IN THE COMPUTER!!!!!???"

Madonna released alot of great stuff before and after this, but to me this is her masterpiece. I've never had a personal connection with an album like I've had with this one. The album touches on some serious subjects like domestic violence (Till Death Do Us Part and parts of Oh Father), Gang violence (Spanish Eyes), Death (Promise To Try), Religion (Like A Prayer, Spanish Eyes, Act Of Contrition) and the importance of family and the hardships that can come with it (Keep It Together.) And there are also fun songs on this album as well (Express Yourself, Cherish, Dear Jessie.) I was just taken with this album when I first heard it 11 years ago, and it has really stuck with me. I have tons of albums that I love, but this one is my favorite. 🙂

Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Although Aces High and 2 Minutes to Midnight are better known and probably more popular, this 13-minute track is just the essence of Iron Maiden, in my opinion.

Worst song

Maybe The Duellists. But really, I like every song.

Best moment

The part of Rime of the Ancient Mariner that starts at 7.30 and the guitar solos that follow.
What a vocal performance and bassline! The build-up before the solos and then finally the solos always give me chills.

Comments

The album has a great tone. Bruce Dickinson's vocal performances are great, the guitar tone is awesome, especially the one of 2 Minutes to Midnight.

All of my favourite bands has made a string of brilliant albums that I find very hard to rate but I will point out my favourite eras of some bands.

AC/DC - Let there be rock, Powerage
You don't get more rock 'n' roll than that. Two absolutely amazing albums without a note wrong. AC/DC didn't put a note wrong in the entire 70's actually.
I especially point out Powerage as my favourite album of all times but Let there be rock isn't far behind.

Status Quo - Hello!, Quo, On the level
Boogie rock at its best. Would love to find a current band that have a sound like this.

Slade - Slayed?, Sladest, Old new borrowed and blue.
Noddy Holder is my favourite vocalist, the greastest screamer in rock.
Would also like to add the album Nobody's fool on the list even though it doesn't fit the era of the albums above.

The Donnas - Turn 21, Spend the night
Finally a more current band that I love. Great sounding guitar by Allison Robertson. This band made me join their fan club. If someone had told me that 10 years ago I would have laughed in their face.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Legendary, epic songs. Not much more to add really.

I do have some other odd favourites of course. Could make a long list. But I would say that these covers a lot of what I'm all about when it comes to music.
