What it means to be a witch

Of course the monsters on buffy and angel not real. Only to give physical form to feelings. Buffy and Angel not only to entertain but to portray how complicated everyone lives are. Joss used vampires and demons to explore the human condition.

Joss did his research well about witchcraft. Wiccans will use spells to heal. They will ask goddess for assistance.

i agree with the bit about monsters being the physical form of feelings being portrayed in the show oh and sorry for laughing at ya hope ya ok.
When Joss created buffy then angel he wanted explore the human condition. He is probably a fan of Gene Roddenberry. Unlike Gene Joss used monsters and demons instead of aliens and space exploration. The reason buffy was successful for so long was that it illustrated what teens had to deal with. Before all had was beverly hills 90210 but how much did any of us relate to those stuck up characters.

Then there was angel. Lets put aside being a vampire. Here we had a guy who took wrong turns in his life. Then turned life around 180 degrees. To help the helpless. To save the innocence. Now we won't relate entirely to Angel's life. I hope not. However myself and most of us have had to correct for mistakes in our lives.

So how does this relate to witchcraft. Wiccans will help people to look inside oneself to find guidance and peace. However won't use witchcraft to magically fix their problems.

Okay, as somebody who has been close to wiccan belief for a good portion of his life I have to say that Faith has hit the nail on the head.

Wicca is a religion, a belief system, and as such is best left to each individual to either believe or not. Those that do believe will each find their own meaning in what they learn.

Shows like Buffy and Angel that present characters like Willow are fantastic but what they are not is in any way accurate or true to life. That kind of magic is fun to watch but is entirely fictional, as I'd assume everyone here knows.

"Magic", in the real sense, is about manipulation of energies that do exist, not turning people into rats or teleporting them across town. It's about spirituality and learning to understand the essence of what makes us what we are inside as well as our connection to everything that surrounds us. Real life magic is the ability to manipulate those energies to your own ends, perhaps in a healing sense or to improve your fortune or that of those around you. Obviously, how true any of this is is down to what yopu believe but I've read, heard and seen enough to know that their is a lot more to wiccan belief than most will give credit to. It may not be as fanciful as what you see in movies but it is very real.

Also, Wicked, are you saying vampires and demons AREN'T real?!?!? Dammit!!!! 😀

I have been discussing what it means to be a true witch with actual witches and those who practice the craft on another message board. Many of them were very impressed with how Joss portrayed witchcraft. Also were pleased with Charmed at first before it got bullied by the old wb network to abandon its principles. Can check out what we discuss on unknowncountry.com boards.

With only one exception, we no longer have any such series.

It will be a real shame if the new series Hex doesn't come back for a second of many more seasons. It did an excellent job carrying on with what Buffy and Angel started.
Hex showed witchcraft in a completely different way than Buffy...and it seems to me in a way that has nothing to do with Wicca...

Yes Hex was exploring different areas along with Wicca. Although they raised the possibility perhaps anyone who practice the craft may be called upon to help in a greater battle. I quite enjoyed what Hex was exploring. The legend of the Nephim and what roles arch angels really play.

I have talked with some wiccans who if wanted could cast a spell that would cause someone's auto engine to explode. Now I would need to see do it before would believe. However real witches know about karma whenever cast a spell. Always make sure what they cast won't cause harm to the innocence. Willow had to learn the consequences of spells the hard way and it was good of Joss to show what Willow had learned from working with the covenant in England.

If is true that the second season of Hex was canceled before even air that is a real shame. Perhaps something scare the powers that be about the content of the second season. Nowadays it is getting harder to find a very involved drama exploring many aspects of society.

Sorry, Buffy, I didn't know that you actually like the show. I shouldn't be mocking a fellow Dream Team fan's taste in television, lol. It was actually the second season that truly turned me off it altogether. I watched the first and found it predictable, but okay to kill an hour when nothing else was on.

The second season just seemed a total mess to me. As if they were desperately trying to find some sort of direction after the majority of the season one set up fell through.

To be honest they were absolutely right to end the show because when you start to lose direction that badly mid season TWO then it's a fair sign that you aren't going to sustain a long run, lol.

Well I DID NOT like how season two began, but by the end I was liking it again. They developed the supporting characters more in S2 which I thought was very beneficial (Rox, Leon). I'm not sure exactly where they would have gone with season 3, but I would have watched it lol. 🙂

Well you guys got me thinking that I had watched seasons 1 and 2 of hex back to back without interruption. I watched the series on Space. The series was aired once a week for the entire run of both seasons so I didn't pay all that much attention to how many episodes. Also the series was a british production with different way of doing things than hollywood.

Anyway I will agree some aspects weren't well thought out. I felt they were rushing too much. Also I was shocked they would kill off Cassie. She reminded me of a young buffy. Actually more a buffy/willow type personality.

In any case there was only 2 conclusions in the end. Either kill cassie's son or doesn't. By not killing him the series could have kept going for several seasons with looking for ways to destroy evil. Would have been able to explore legends and myths.

Well thank you very much. Some people havent actually seen it all yet. Try hide tags next time please.
Damn. I wasn't planning to read the whole thread or anything, but when I read this comment by Wicked, I was intruiged to find out what show you were talking about.. So I read the part of that other post about what happened, and then I read what show it was about, and then I realised I didn't want to know. Meh.. 😉

The BBC channel here did this weird thing where they sort of took all the episodes and split them into two seasons, but not the actual two seasons as they aired in the UK. So US has seen up to Ella Burns, I think.

PS I don't really think that's a spoiler lol.

Must be Season 1 stuff people are objecting too then. That's OK, I'll make a bigger spoiler. 🙂 Hey...I thought we were talking about Wiccas.

No I don't think that's it...I think that tjk got his information wrong lol. It's half valid that we might mark spoilers for the eps not shown in the US, but we're not going to try to have a comparative discussion marking every little thing.

I still maintain that Hex has nothing to do with Wicca.

🙂

I do what can to avoid giving away any spoiler. Hex is difficult because it aired differently in Canada, US, and UK. I thought it had aired everywhere by now. In canada Space aired both seasons but there was no break between seasons. It ran like one long series of episodes.

Hex talked about a lot more than wicca. However there was some wicca included.

Well and I hope don't spoil there Ella who was a witch that was burned at the stake before she was called. I will stop there so not to ruin it.

Now this should be safe to say Cassie suddenly discovering she is a descendent from a line of witches and she had to learn to control her powers.
