What It Must Be Like Being God.

I've allowed spiders to build webs in front of my garden window.

The other day a spider caught a moth in it's web.

The spider was small. The moth was large. The moth struggled hopelessly. The spider crawled about the moth's girth, spinning, biting, sucking the bodily fluids from the desperate, struggling body of it's prey.

I watched, and thought to myself, "Poor Moth, lousy spider".

Suddenly I thought a thought. By watching this ballet of death and horror, I had in a way become a part of it, because it had suddenly become within my power to decide what was going to happen next.

I could release the moth.

I could grab the spider, put it in a jar, and introduce it to the 7 layers of hell, making it pay for it's evil nature.

I could realize there are necessary rules to nature, however ugly they might seem.

In the end though, I thought to myself, "I don't want no damned moth flying around my house. Tough tomatoes toots", closed the window and walked away.

I wish that was just the description of a god, but in actuality it's a great description of people in general. It's easy to get on the spider about it killing the moth, but it's just doing what it's designed to do. This is how it survives. If it didn't do what it does, than it would die. I guess where the problem lies in trying to apply this to people is the question of what are we designed for? What is our purpose? If our purpose is to simply go on living, than we are doing a pretty bad job of it. We pollute our world, go to war, and raise people to be afraid of their fellow man. All these things are counterproductive to our purpose, if our purpose is that of survival. Then again, if our purpose is but to consume, and destroy, than kudos to us for a bang up job.

I personally would love for us to have the simplicity of being that a spider has. In our world everything is so ambiguous in nature. It is to the purpose of our being that everyone seems to have their own interpretation of. The problem is that a lot of the different interpretations come into conflict with each other. That is what leads us to the problems that we face today.

In my view, a god is not just someone who is reactive. It is something or someone who puts everything into motion. It puts the players into play, and takes a step back to watch as everyone goes about their business. A scientific experiment if you will.

What happens to the spider if we give it a bigger brain? It starts to wonder what it's own true purpose might be. I think that what our main problem is as people is that we over-think things. Why does there have to be some great purpose to our being? Why can't we be here simply just to be? I think it would solve a lot of our problems if people could remove the walls that separate us. Religion, borders, pursuit of wealth, and colour of our skin are but a few of these walls. As long as these walls stay in place there is no hope of us ever rising above our differences to achieve a truly utopian society.

Wow, listen to me go on a rant. Sorry if I am sounding preachy. The gist of this is...it's hard to really judge someone when everyone thinks that they are right in their own way. To judge someone, is another way of imposing my views on another person, and saying that what they believe in is wrong, when who am I to say that I am right. Ughhh...brain hurt...great...now I'm gonna be stuck with serious thoughts all day.

Cordelia, Right?

The spider is getting real fat. I think she's going to have babies. If they come in here, I'm gonna squash em.

LOL. Just messin with ya. 🙂 I get your point...Interesting.

There's definitely an ick factor to spiders....I don't like them one bit....yech. And I'm not Cordelia. I'm Mr Gordo the pig. : piggy:

Cool icon Mr. Gordo. I haven't seen that one before. You should sign all your posts with it. LOL

But actually I was referring to the Cordelia quote, "now I'm gonna be stuck with serious thoughts all day".

Speaking of the ick factor though. It's all relative. I used to get rats at that window, then I built this screen thing around it (long story), and the spiders came. Hey ya think I can work that into the metaphor somehow? 🙂
