What keeps you addicted to Btvs and Angel?

My addiction comes and goes. At the highest while I watch it (duh!) and at it´s lowest a month or two after I finished rewatching it. No, I usually don´t watch an episode a day or even every week. I have more than enough of other shows to watch. The reason I watch it over and over again is of course that it´s THAT good (you really don´t need specifics do you?). And with my bad memory I always end up noticing new things.

With that being said, finding this place (may) and the comics have done that the addiction is at a higher level than it usually is at this point, And because of it I do watch single episoes every now and then.

i agree with everything apart from the comics :)
Like Scorbo said, nothing is as good as the Buffyverse. I don't watch it that often, I really just don't have the time but if I had the choice of watching any program in the world I would pick Buffy. I just have never cared about the characters in any other tv show or film the way I do in the Buffyverse. I doubt I ever will.

This place keeps the interest at a constant too, rekindles the flames when they seem to be dying out.

I think the way it has a different layer every time I rewatch helps to keep me addicted, I mean, any time I watch with a new fan, or an old fan, different thoughts come up as we watch etc and that keeps it interesting - more than a decade after I started watching, I still find myself SQUEEING with delight when I come across another fan 🙂 especially when I figure out they are as addicted as me when they giggle at a random quote or some such thing that I tend to spurt out in general conversation. It's hard not to stay addicted when the writing, themes and characters are so engaging.

Right now it's the fact that I haven't seen all the episodes yet. Dunno what happens when I've seen them all. But I agree, there's (almost) nothing like the Buffyverse. It's something you get sucked in to.

Like others have said - it's because it is better than most other televison shows and because it is very layered and quite complex. I love how you can watch an episode nine times and on the tenth you can see something totally new or see it in a different way. I love that. Plus, i have to say it - the relationships between the characters (uh, okay, mainly Buffy and Spike and Angel and Spike) really fuel my continuing inerest in the show. And the comics. the comics do too.

For me it's the fact that the writing is so good that I get sucked into everything no matter how many times I watch it. For instance I still cry during 'the body' ,sing along with OMWF and cry with laughter during 'Band Candy' and 'Something Blue' and 'Tabula Rasa'.

When you can watch a series over and over again without wanting to turn it off, shows that it's an exceptional show you're watching. 🙂

It helps because I run through Buffy and Angel and then Watch charmed so by the time I get back to buffy and angel it feels fresh again.

This is a tough question primarily because my obsession tends to come and go. I think it all started because I related to the Buffy/Angel relationship and it is for that reason I stayed a fan. I loved the show and the many different relationship dynamics it presented. I found myself feeling personally involved in what they went through. I will say that how often I watch the show depends on where I am at and what else is going on in the land of tv. When I do watch it though I always start from the begining and work my way through going back and forthe between Buffy and Angel. I do not see ever getting to the point where I just stop watching all together. Never gonna happen and you can quote me on that.

Buffy, for me (when I was growing) was this amazing role model that I could look up to. She was funny and witty and not perfect. The relationships on the show were so unpredictable, and the characters were so well developed, as were the plot lines. Whatever came out of the characters's mouths (in terms of lines) was never what I mouthed along; Buffy was always surprising me. Not to mention the genius of Joss for creating this show. That and the fact that he could make you change from shipping on relationship to eventually another was amazing to me. (For me it was Bangel to Spuffy and Cangel, Ozlow to Tillow). In other words, nothing that I've seen in the vampire genre or fantasy industry has been amazing as Buffy has. Sure, there's been attempts, but they've all been really trashy, to be really honest with you. And frankly, even the things that came before aren't nearly as good. It was the writing of the show that got me, the way the actors acted out their parts so well, and how REAL the characters were that made me get hooked to Buffy and keeps me addicted still.

First of all, there are enough episodes to not get bored. Usually, after I haven't watched 'hated' episodes in a time, I even really like those again and could watch them a couple of times.
Then there's the different layers. Right now, for example, I'm watching out for the foreshadowing.
You can watch with different people, and especially if they are new to the Buffyverse or a specific episode that can provide fun. For me there's also the understanding more and more. Like, I've started this Buffy reference thread some time ago, where I posed some questions about references I didn't get. Stuff like that (always discovering something new) can add enormously to the hookedness.
Then there's fanvideos. Maybe this sounds dumb, but some are so frickin awesome that I finish watching and just think 'man, I love this show...lets watch some Buffy'.
Last but not least, the whole show is just awesome.

EDIT: And how could I forget...what adds to the awesomeness is that, although this show deals with monsters and whatnot, I always find something to relate to. And that's just really cool.

totally agree about the fanvids
The fun and friends here on the Boards keeps it constantly interesting for me. Somebody's always coming up with a new music video, a new fan fiction, a new bit of Buffyverse trivia that I never knew...It's always fresh and interesting.

I think for me its the fact Buffy was the first TV show I ever really got in to as a kid. Its what keeps bringing me back I can watch it over and over and just never get bored. Plus it helps to have so many episodes to chose from and its a show thats for all ages so what ever your age is you can still watch it. Also the characters are relatable and the storylines have never been far fetched thats what keeps bringing me back.

Plus having Angel as a spin off show makes things more interesting as when first watching you never knew who from Buffy was going to pop up. It just made the whole Buffyverse more complex and we all know complex is gooood.

Same here! :)
I be agreeing, BtVS and Angel are like pure heroin..which would be..that aniseed stuff? Yeah.

My obsession is actually kept ticking over because FX show an episode a few times a day. It's great for just tuning into every now and then, so I often get a random hit of Buffy. Plus, this place. Keeps me coming back for more!

Oh, and then there's the need for me to do a rewatch of Angel to make a list of Langel innuendo. I will prove that it's there. Or is that just a really flimsy excuse to watch Angel again?

*doesn't care*

Same here! Wow, that was so long ago. I miss those days! All that anticipation looking forward to next week's episodes.... those were the days, weren't they? (;

HOT VAMPIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell yeah. I had the biggest crush on David Boreanaz when I was a kid. 😛 Then when James Marsters came on I had two major crushes. *teeheehee*
