What Made You Happy Today? Volume Two

An old friend sent me an updated progress report on the post production ststus of a movie that we have both been wanting to see made since we were kids:

John Carter of Mars Movie

For those who don't know. John Carter is a fantasy/sci fi character created by the great Edgar Rice Burroughs, best known for his character Tarzan (the real one, not the watered down shadow in the movies and MOST CERTAINLY not the abomination that Disney Studios perpetrated on the unsuspecting public several years ago). To give you some vague idea of the character of John Carter, he was the character that inspired George Lucas' Jedi Knights and Greg Widen's initial Highlander, immortal, heroic, and a master swordsman with no equal.

Carter is the protagonist for a series of 10 novels, beginning tith the definitive trilogy, "A Princess Of Mars," "The Gods Of Mars," and "The Warlord Of Mars."

Filming will begin in England in January, then move to Utah after that, and the movie is currently scheduled for an early 2012 release.

(If it sounds like I'm getting a bit too excited over this, just remember, I've been waiting for this movie for almost 50 years)

Where to start with this series? I think I can get them free on Kindle
Kind of geeky but: I haven't had anything less than an A for nearly 3 years, and this semester I was almost positive that I was going to get a C in a class with a very old, very meticulous professor. I don't know how, but I managed an A. (Really, his quizzes were insane, his exams were even worse, and papers... Don't get me started on his papers.) All's well that ends well though. Maybe he was feeling generous since it's his last class (he's an old, old guy) or maybe I knew more about the novels than I imagined. Anyhow, woo-hoo! (The more straight-A semesters, the bigger my graduation gift, BTW)
 
Dr Horrible DVD came, and I'm watching the musical commentary. I'm very happy.

Just in time for Christmas.
 
I just realised that Christmas is this week. It doesn't feel like like Christmas yet, but it's just...amazing. 😀 I need to get into the spirit. 😉
