I'm happy because my business teacher gave a really amazing lecture today. I've been thinking about it all day. We have lecture once a week usually on boring business stuff, but today was excellent. He really made me think about a lot of things. Privilege, education, individualism, what it means to matter to the world. The last one especially.
I'm re-thinking education right now and it feels very good. Not in the 'making drastic changes to my own life and dropping out of school' kind of way, but I am re-evaluating how I viewed it before. I feel motivated to take control over what I learn and what I choose to get out of my educational system. I just feel like I "get it" more now. My business teacher went to Harvard. Supposedly the finest education in the world or whatever. And he told us about how that wasn't actually true, that he was actually kind of miserable there and he didn't feel like he was learning a thing. Not until a mentor of his told him that this was his opportunity to learn how to survive in that environment (he being a working class person of color in an Ivy League school, being a person of relative privilege in a lot of other aspects, etc. etc.), not just what was in the textbooks. I don't know. It was just kind of inspiring? Usually people just say go to college and get a job, but this was different. I really liked it. I've been feeling perpetually tired and unsure about things, especially since I'm about to graduate high school and I'm in a ~reflective mood~. But yay, now I'm happier and feeling better about some things than I was earlier today. 😀
