This is something that has always confused me. Almost as soon as Willow started doing magic in S2, the Scooby Gang started calling her a witch, even when she couldn't do that much. Sure, she was inherently talented, but she only became super powerful through hard work, practice, and dabbling in some dark magic. It seems to me that she kind of made herself a witch, whereas I assume Tara and Amy were born into it (cus their moms were witches). So then my question is, why does no one in the Scooby Gang consider that other people could be witches too? Anya as a human did a powerful spell to turn Olaf into a troll. I guess she dropped doing spells as a vengeance demon, but when she became human again she still seemed to have a lot of knowledge and talent regarding spells (Dopplegangland), but it's not something she really ever explored again. Dawn was shown being able to do powerful spells (Forever, CWDP), and Buffy did a pretty strong spell on herself in No Place Like Home. And what about Giles and Jonathan? They're definitely warlocks right? So why does no one but Willow try to harness their own magical ability? It seems like most people could become witches if they tried (I mean Tara has been doing it like her whole life and she can't do that much.) My only guess is that they didn't have the hunger to get good at something that Willow did, and figured they could just let her take care of anything magical. But I would think Dawn at least would wanna try instead of just accepting her lowly post as human. Any thoughts?
