What network would you rather have air Dollhouse

What network is True Blood on? That one. They could have hot scenes, and it would sell. We'd get a few seasons for sure.
 
The BBC.

I'm just selfish like that though. It totally wouldn't work. But I'd not have to scrounge off the internet for it.

I don't really know all that much about the American networks. TNT seemed to do quite well with Leverage, it got a ton of promotion online and they were good with getting it started up with an ad-free premier.

Whatever network "Dollhouse" is on, the issue remains the same: it there aren't enough viewers, the show gets canceled. FOX is run as a business, and it's all about profits. That said, though the budget would be smaller (an issue that could be dealt with) SciFi might be a better choice simply because, with their rather specific theme (science fiction or fantasy, obviously) they would be more likely to keep the show on longer.
 
Without a doubt HBO or Showtime,

Why?

-still decent budget
-longer shows (53mins)
-more tighter story lines (13-14 episodes per season)
-more adult in genre... Dollhouse is begging for that (did you see that 1st skirt Eliza wore?)
-more creative control to a directors vision (bet HBO wouldnt ask for a gazzilion rewrites and 7 pilots to get people interested)


Scifi doesnt have the money to make Dollhouse
BBC dont know how to make big production shows without them coming off cheap in some way (Doctor Who for example)

A regular network alternative may be NBC as they seem to recognize longer running shows that rise and fall. Heroes is a great example of this, it got really high numbers and then dwindled big time yet they renew it and its now starting to make a big comeback... i GUARANTEE that fox would not have let heroes get to its 3rd season.

The best alternative is definitely premium cable, it has everything needed for these types of shows. Also, those stating that its got nothing to do with the network, it all comes down to numbers seem to understand very little about the problem that exists here... If a show falls short of expectations as a pilot, that comes down 90% on the advertising campaign (you think people didn't like the show after not seeing it?). It also stems from expectations and the way networks pick shows based on a continual growth of fanbase or demanding instant hits.

I should make the point though that the only reason Dollhouse exists is because FOX gave Eliza freedom to make a show and she met up with Joss to create this. Without FOX, we wouldnt have SOOOO many great shows on the air right now and for that reason FOX will be may favourite station, even if i lose respect for them on certain issues.
 
Sci-Fi doesn't have the budget? Yeah, it may not have the budget of Fox but it has had some of the best Sci-Fi shows on their network without much of a problem. As for Showtime, it'd probably never work there. For one thing, it's a a paid for station unlike HBO that usually comes with a cable package, and I doubt anyone would pay $15 a month for a Sci-Fi show. Plus, the shows on Showtime are hardly tight.
 
Cinemax and HBO are both in the same genre of premium cable ie.. 15 bucks each, 25 for both and plenty of serial dramas exist on them. Tru blood is a show about vampires.. how is that not sci-fi?

And no, Sci-fi network doesnt have close to the budget that FOX, a national free-to-air broadcasting station has. I could probably get some viewership numbers if you really needed. Sure, a slimmed down Dollhouse could be made to work, or be bred on FOX's nipple and then inherited by sci-fi (which cuts costs down a lot and already has been successful for sci-fi).

I worked as a AT&T salesman for about 4 months and i can tell you that HBO is included in a cable package... the TOP one. 🙂 Showtime is normally included in lesser packages (in the case of att, their U300 package)
 
Dollhouse doesn't require that large a budget. They have a fixed set, they shoot locally, they have a fairly inexpensive cast and not much in the way of SFX.

If it wasn't that high they wouldn't have needed to cut the budget 2% because of the economy. Apparently its just shy of '24'.
 
It would be cheaper if it were shooting in Vancouver, like Battlestar or a zillion other shows.

I'd want to see it on The WB, circa 2005, paired with Angel Season 6.
 
I'd be annoyed if it was on HBO or Showtime cause I can't afford those. I had to get my True Blood fix by *mumblepiratingmumblemumble* and I'd like to not do that as much as possible. Besides, I can't really see Eliza doing some of the things--sex scenes and nudity, mostly--that would be required of her on HBO.
 
I would have liked to see it on HBO or Showtime, even though it people who don't have cable would have to watch online. It would give it less censorship and a better chance of survival.
 
I'd love if Joss had a show on HBO or Showtime. But I'd settle with anything but FOX at this point. I like the idea of the sci-fi channel, but BBC would be horrible as I couldn't watch it.

EDIT: I just realized crazy Flakes already said that lol
 
I've never had any type of cable that I didn't have to pay extra for Showtime, it's never been included in one of my packages. And, as far as a show like Dollhouse, it would be treated just like Rome was. It had a high budget and was canned after two seasons because it was too expensive.
 
Do networks like HBO or Showtime usually let shows go on for 20-22 episodes per season, each season? because most of the shows ive seen that come from there they dont.
 
Of the major networks, I'd say NBC. They're overall numbers are down right now so their expectations would be lower. Plus, they've been pretty good about giving their shows time to find an audience. "30 Rock" and (the American) "The Office" both started off with pretty weak ratings and have been renewed enough to slowly build an audience ("30 Rock" still isn't a huge ratings draw, I don't think). They've also been giving "Chuck" plenty of time to gain popularity, and have stood by "Heroes" while it has gone through a creative slump. CBS doesn't seem like a good fit for this kind of show. It might work on ABC if they were to pair it with LOST.
