what really pisses me off about this place...

No...you don't want to do that sweetie...remember...it takes all kinds. I would hope that none of you would ever change. It's what makes this place the crazy/cool place it is...love you all...never change people...or I'm getting some plane tickets and hunting you all down...🙂

lol...nah,I really don't want to do that 😛...but if I can't say what I think my post account would be 0,...it's okay if he complains about certain topics, nothing is perfect of course, and he can give us his opinion, but he always sounds like he doesn't like this place...sorry again if I sounded mean,I didn't mean to 😛

First of all there are no male family members in my family, secondly I don't have any male friends apart from on line ones..if you fel offended then I'm sorry it's just my point of view...
yea thats kind of impossible like mike said you have to have a dad or cousin or grandpa and some threads do turn into male bashing threads its true but i stay away from those anyway and that is one reason i rarely come on these boards anymore

The only thing I can criticize about the feel of this board is the feeling that no one is listening to me because im new.(95% paranoia i know) I wont make any judgements about why people do the "I agree" poasts. But some times when i see a poast i like and i say something funny/insitefull and its fallowed by 4 "Yeah" poasts. No one coments on what i poasted and i feel kinda like no one read it. *shrug* Like i said i could just be paranoid.

BTW I realy like this poast.

i dont like the threads where you have to choose a bb member you like best and stuff like that because those do hurt peoples feelings and i know i posted in those before but do regret it because its just like when we couldnt put names of our friends here in our sig but doin those threads is the same thing and oneyedxander i feel the same way sometimes

A good point Faldor. I too sometimes get irked at the way threads degenerate. But every so often we manage to get a good one going and the kids are kind enough to let us carry it on...😉

Magui, I don't think you've quite got Faldor's humour - there's usually a very high irony level in there (or are you truly a miserable old curmudgeon, Faldor? 🙂)

Part of the reason I agreed to become a mod was because this board seems such a friendly community. OK, every so often someone may say something I disagree with or dislike and sometimes threads go off-topic and get a bit samey but no-one really gets hurt, do they? And, like rene said, if I'm not interested in a particular thread I don't bother reading it - although, now I'm no longer a civilian, I guess I have to read everything just to make sure you lot are playing nice...

i've always thought about that but never had the balls to say anything about it so thx for getting it out in the open faldor

That's why I never used to allow them, but so many people gave me crap for it we just sort of ended up letting it go.

Faldor hon - out of all the 'what I hate about these boards' threads we've ever had, this is the one that makes me want to say "well just leave then" the least. So don't go 😉

I totally understand your p.o.v.! I'm more or less still new, and it's hard to assimilate into an already established community of fans, no matter how friendly they are. I've been a member over at the X-Files boards for over a year now, and I'm still not quite assimilated in. It's one of the pitfalls of having a board with a large amount of members. It's just like when you move to a new school and become friends with a group of people. No matter what, you'll always feel like that "extra" member. Or at least I have.

As far as my opinion goes of these boards...I think everyone here is friendly. Or at least the people I've come into contact with. The X-Files boards are a lot more relaxed than these, as far as being on topic, thread subjects, etc go...but I still love it here. It's easier to find intelligent conversation here, where as I have my real silly stupid fun at my "other" home at XF.

faldor...my rebel bro...you know the best way to change the boards...is to take a proactive approach...and start replying to other peoples posts..."talk to them"...be a leader...set the example...rather than just make a thread on basically how much this board sucks...people put allot of time and money into this board man...don't hate congratulate...and criticize constructively man....out of love for the board...otherwise...the door is always open to anyone to spread their roots to another board...nobody is forced to come here....gotta love freewill...

Oh man, this thread just keeps getting more and more hilarious.

Faldor I have to tell you a story.

It concerns this guy who turned up on these boards a couple of years ago.

He was a chippy, fight-picking, maniac guy. He was looking for trouble with everyone, challenging the moderators to ban him. As I recall it his big bitch was people would use these boards to express their fanatic affection for the Buffy the Vampire series. Some of us thought a Buffy fan site was an odd place to express that particular opinion.

As I recall it, he received the same "if you don't love it, leave it" invitation you've been receiving, and received it on more than one occasion.

Eventually he turned out all right, though. He made peace with whatever demons were plaguing him at the time, and went on to become one of the best moderators at this site. In fact he just offered you advice in the post above mine.

In your case though. You actually have a point. Again, I'm not sure it has a solution. You'll find the same kind of behaviour you described in your original post at any other message board.

Stick around Faldor. You'll get over your irritation. Soulgasm did.

I can only really speak for myself when I say that your posts are paid attention to. We have tried to combat this problem, where some threads start to go into cliquey chat which might make new members feel excluded, and it is still something that we are working on.

We have a what would you like to see thread on the boards here, for you to give opinions on what you want on the boards, so if someone can come up with some sort of group activity to get to know your fellow posters better then please feel free to post 🙂

don't think i havent tried. but what normally happens is people dont lisen to me and just start a new thread and talk about daniel beddingfield!!! :: wacko :

how about you start a topic for everyone to just post their "I agree" type comments so it dosent clog the rest up!!! 😀

OneEyedXander you got my attention when you first showed up, funky name 😉

as for the male bashing, can we have a ban on it? i mean if it was a "black people are 100% evil" or "Americans are a load of gun obbsessed *******s who should all be shot in the heads with their own guns for being gun obsessed and really stupid" people wouldnt stand for it.

as for Mr P i am truly a grumpy old git, i just find somthing to laugh at most the time 😛

Well if a thread is started for all the agree type comments i'll just have to delete it because of it being a pointless thread 😉

How about we have no bashing on anything? Its not funny and its not clever.

Ok,no more bashing for me..and I think its a good idea so I promise I wont bash anything 🙂

Ironically when we delete "I agree" type posts as spam, then we get threads saying "This board sucks" lol

Yup, we can't win we suck if we do and we suck if we don't.

Wait wait.. lets not give up the right to bash thats one of the most sacred rights of free speech. Maybe we just need to be a bit more sensitive in our bashing. Maybe staing away from generalizations about race, gender, sexual preferance or age. I dont want to get to the point where I'm chastised for my deep hatred of pennys.

the way people seem to just talk at each other instead of too each other. all the threads seem to be "post your opinion" and they do, then knowone comments on anyone elses thought other then maybe "i agree" or if their feeling nasty "i disagree!"

::grrr::

discuss

oh and quite that option that means unless i change it i get my email clogged up with "a new buffy board post"

well everyone else gets to rant...

To get back to the original reason for the thread...(the irony is delicious, as N4H said)...I've noticed this was the case since I signed up here. I don't go to many other boards, so I can't speak to what happens anywhere that's not here, and it is mildly disconcerting to have responses that are "my opinion" with no acknowledgement of previous posts or comments on other opinions (otherwise known as "discussion"). That being said, I have had many good "discussions" here at BB, notably with N4H, Mr. Pointy, Hero, and many others who actually respond to what others have said (sorry if I left you out and we've actually had a discussion...). A hint for everyone wishing a conversation about a topic...call me Mr. Obvious, but if you actually quote someone in your post, it shows interest in what they've said, and gives them an opening to respond to your quote...questions expedite the process!

I went through the "no one is listening to me" newbie blues too, but the best way to get over that is just to keep posting and have a bit of a sense of humour (or use dwarf magic 🙂). I can see why a cliquey thread might be a turnoff, but for me, if I saw one when I was a newbie, I paid attention, and even did a bit of spelunking in the Cemetary to get some background. Little in-jokes make the experience here even more fun, so I hope no one is put off by the ones I'm involved with...(see above!). So, to summarize, read what is said, quote when possible and ask questions to give others the cue to talk to you, not at you!

Faldor-your complaint is true on an EPIC scale.
It drives me completely buggy when people say things like "I'm a Spuffy shipper" and then never bother to explain why, or give answers like, (no offense DB lovers)---"yeah, but David is hot-I love him." when the topic was about Buffy and who should she choose. Sometimes, I wonder if anyone reads what the topic was about or if some of the people on these boards have ever experienced active listening-you know, when you ask a question to further understand a differing viewpoint. And while this can be EXTREMELY frustrating at some times (and quite honestly why I try to stay away from threads that invoke this kind of one worded answer unless, of course, I'm moderating them), we also have our fair share of largely intelligent discussions, and I think most of us have gotten to know each other fairly well. Sometimes, honey, you've got to take the good with the bad.

I like Soulgasms approach-if there's something you wish to change, take a pro-active stand against it and start changing it. So, all of you who've said they agree in this thread, I would expect less one worded answers from now on.

I also felt ignored when I joined. And now I'm a mod...go fig...I guess SOMEONE was listening 😀 😉

And please guys, don't just post something because you have nothing else to say, I'd much rather you don't post at all. It makes the important threads feel a little empty. And PLEASE, don't post something you've seen people post thirty times in the same thread. By that point, it's just not a new idea anymore. And don't post. "I agree" to a question and then post it again three posts later. We "get" that you agree-we just saw it three posts ago!

Ok, I'm done ranting 😉
