Yeah, but then he joined a team that actually made it to the Stanley Cup finals...and won! So...Calgary has been there 3 times since 1986...and the Leafs have been there.................how many times, exactly? Hmmmm? 😉
And yes, the Flames are off to a slow start...but I have faith!

Oh and you should thank Punch Imlach a moron's moron for breaking up the leafs in the 70's because he thought Sittler had too much control of the team. If Punch had not traded Lanny to the Colorado Rockies for a sack of pucks the Flames would not have gotten him when the Rockies folded.
Give it another 25 years for the Flames to build more history then come back to me with that faith line ok. lol

One of the best ways to find out what kind of sense of humour a Canadian has is to poke fun at their hockey team and see if they laugh with you. Hey what else do we have to laugh at with 6 months of snow and ice?
Mr. Pointy you should know that it was England that started Canadians on the road to humour when it involves hockey. The King of England appointed Governor General Lord Stanley to Canada. His sons enjoyed the game as well as himself. So he spent $50 bucks and had a silversmith in England forge a cup and he donated it to Canada and it was known as the Challenge Cup. It was when the NHL was formed it was officially changed to the Stanley Cup. I don't know the exact address but this past summer the Stanley Cup returned to the very shop in London where it was created for the first time in over 100 years and a historical plaque was placed on the wall stating the birthplace of the oldest sport trophy in history of sport.
Now the funny part to this is you guys in England don't play hockey. So thanks for giving us Canadians a source of jokes that you guys don't get. Sorta like us Canadians that don't get Benny Hill.

I am so much in agreement, TT, my friend! But I can see why some of our nancy-boy compatriots from those other unenlightened places that know not of the hockey of which we speak might not find the humour in our national game. After all, they like that soccer/football thing where guys go down like they've been poleaxed when you breathe on 'em...now THAT'S funny to watch! 😉

OK, OK...ice hockey is integral to the Canadian sense of humour...I concede 🙂 Now I think about it, I did laugh a lot at the film Slapshot...I am also the proud owner of a Team Canada hockey shirt from the early 90s...am I forgiven?

Comparing professional football with Ice hockey is like comparing the universe with a brewery. Put enough people in each and fights will ensue, one lends itself to that the other is just a little more poetic and artistic.
Football is graceful, the motion of the players, the path of the ball. The lure to hockey is the fighting. Lets be honest, that's the highlight...what a 'sport'.
While we're being honest, two pansies, flailing about on the ice, throwing punches, (I call it punches, its more like slaps really, all that's missing is a couple of handbags), is nothing to the violence that can erupt because of a football game.
