What would you tell yourself at the age of 18?

Well, I'm 23 now, so I'll skip back to 16 or 17 (because of a late birthday I turned 18 during my first year of college).

First and foremost, more than absolutely anything else, I'd tell myself to enjoy it. I worried about a lot of crap in high school and now, after being out in the rest of the world, I don't know, I wish I'd...valued it more. I wish I'd taken the time to be a kid. I'd have gone to more parties, tried to make more friends.

I spent three years of high school and longer out of it chasing around a girl I thought was someone special. Or, who I wanted, really wanted to be someone special is probably more accurate. She wasn't, and it was nothing but a waste and a lot of heartache over nothing. God, I wish I could do that over. That's one of my biggest regrets, and if I had the power to go back and tell myself at age 16 just what the next give years were going to be like, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

It's strange, but thinking back on high school, on being 16, I really do wish I could do it over again. I know it's not great to dwell on things we can't change and all that, but more than just about anything, I wish I could be 16 again.

I would definitely tell myself to bet on the Red Sox big time in the 04 playoffs lol but seriously I would tell myself to take school a little more seriously, I went on a 2 year break when I graduated high school and my life would have been so much easier if I went to school straight out of high school. Oh and also buy stocks in Apple lol

I would tell myself to take my jobs more seriously and not to bounce around jobs because my goodness doesn't that spell disaster for the future.
Actually I would totally go back and tell myself to just do what Buffy would do! Ha! 😀

Hmmm this is a hard question!!! My first thought is that I wouldn't have dropped out of school.... But then, as Walt Whitman says "way leads onto way" and where I am right now is pretty cool. I kinda feel like life is a tapestry made up of every decision you make and to pull at one thread could unravel the whole thing.

Interesting thoughts.
It may be shitty now but just hold on for a couple more years and things will work out. Also go and get your head sorted properly and don't mess around with therapy as it's useless for you.

-Get your sh*t together

-Take College more serious

-Everything has consequences

-No one is going to do things for you

Well, when I was eighteen I was just starting to date my ex, so I'd probably smack myself around the head and tell myself to get as far away from him as possible.

Oh, and I'd also tell the little idiot to move back to her parents' house, to finish High School and go to University. And to stop drinking so much, stop sleeping around so much and to stop taking every drug in sight.

Man, I was mook when I was younger.

I actually have no idea..lol.

I may have told myself to have stuck in more at school, but on the flip side, i had a job and was earning money. I suppose now with the way jobs are, it may have been better to decide on a career sooner and see where it went.

You know, I've thought about this question before, and I have to say this: not a damn thing.
Every single thing I've gone through in my life has gotten me to here. The road has not always been easy and it certainly hasn't been fun a lot of the times, but if I hadn't done the things I did in my past, I wouldn't have learned some very valuable life lessons, and I probably wouldn't have met my husband and had my 2 beautiful girls and the little boy on the way.
The only piece of advice I would give myself is that "Sex does not equal love". I could have saved myself some heartache if I had known that back then.

yeah, that's pretty much how I feel.... but the whole sex doesn't equal love.... I get that, but I don't *get* it... if that makes any sense.

If telling myself effected having my daughter (Abs) then I'd have to say nothing at all and let my life pan out the way it did.

If telling myself did not effect having Abs then I'd say....

1) Dump him.
2) Go to the doctors and be honest.
3) Don't go out on the 4th Feb 1995.
4) Expect to get shat on by men and raise your standards.
5) Learn how to use a pc early and master adobe, you'll love it.
6) Make sure you still join Buffy-Boards!!!

Im 24 so I would like to tell myself at 16-18 take some chances, ask the girls I fancied out stop being afraid and relise that nothing bad will happen. I regret not going to parties when i was younger because all I wanted to do was paint warhammer and collect comics etc not having my life in balance to know that just because you have a hobby doesn't mean you cant have a social life.

The main one is Id have taken my education a lot more serious so i dont wake up going to a job that makes me angry depressed and poor.

I love that - "nothing bad will happen". 18 year old me needed to hear that too. :)
Well I'm 19 haha but...I'd go back to the month of May and I'd tell myself to take a screencap of this hilarious photo that someone showed me (is going to show me...?) on Skype. Seriously that's it. I will probably never, ever see that photo again and it was so hilariously horrifying oh my GOD. Yeah that's all I'd change. I've done so many stupid and embarrassing things but it's not a big deal. I mean maybe my life would be better if I hadn't changed high schools or if I hadn't talked my parents out of moving to Las Vegas haha but...who cares, I don't regret anything.

EXCEPT not taking that damn screen cap ughhhh why?!?!? Hahah it's so stupid but you guys just do not realize how devastating it is!!! I'm sort of joking. Sort of.

haha, awww, I've missed you!
Mingle more, don't spend so much money on books and Star Trek videos and learn to go with the flow- people aren't going to judge you based on every little detail and the people who are worth knowing will take the rough with the smooth.

DON'T spend money on Star trek videos? Because you should buy dvds instead? I see no other reason to tell 18 year old you this. :D
1. Do better in school. I'm intelligent, and I really regret blowing school off like I did.

2. I'd tell myself to admit to myself that I'm gay, and don't be scared of it. I would have been happier, I think. 🙂

3. I'd tell myself that it's also okay to be introverted. Not everybody is really outgoing, and that's okay too. Don't let other people bug you about it.

4. Around 17 or 18 is when I started to question my belief system. I'd tell myself to keep doing that. I'm not sure whether or not I'd tell myself I'm atheist (well, I don't actually call myself an atheist, I just don't follow any religion, and atheist sums up my belief system, I guess if that makes sense.)

5. Check out that show "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." 😀

Number 3 - yes!
Even though I'm old enough to go back to my 18 year old self I'd like to go back even further. Too much "damage" to repair even at 18.

Don't be afraid to share how you feel. Holding things inside for decades won't do you much, if any, good. Start to admit it to yourself. It's ok to feel the way you do. It's not wrong or weak.

Try not to put so much pressure on yourself. You might not get the best grades in school, or see things the way most people see things, but that doesn't mean that you're a failure.

You might be different but it doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Learn to save money. 😉

Let yourself off the hook. The world won't end if you do.

Breathe.

Smile.

Live.

Buy all the gold you can at $16 an ounce. Buy a dozen copies of "The Avengers" #1 and lock them away in a safety deposit box. Invest in Apple Electronics. Never, NEVER sell your 1965 Mustang. Don't get involved with (girl's name deleted) Don't tell Joss Whedon you're idea about a teenaged girl who hunts vampires in her spare time.
