His & Hers (limited series)

I quite like the two leads at least. Thought it’d be worth a look even if the trailer and premise didn’t make it seem like anything special.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 2

S1 is solid but this is where the show really gets going. Two of my favourite episodes Resurrection and On the Run.

Race Across the World s2. I know they cast these people on purpose, because I am genuinely annoyed at the son in the mother/son team. He blew their budget on food! The whole cast are spoilt brats but the fact this kid just prioritised a subway sandwich and his own comfort over his mum (who has incurable cancer) was infuriating! I love that she said at the end, "If I brought my other Son we'd be able to finish".

I'm not finished yet but it has been a frustrating season with civil unrest causing changes. Does make the world seem very small and doesnt at all make travel look appealing.

No, no she has not! A friend of mine is quite the fan of ATJ, and they too would agree.

She was even good in the (pretty darn poor) The New Mutants film; in fact she was the best thing in that. I wouldn't mind seeing her Magik/Illyana again some time.

Ouch; a rating of 5.3/10 on imdb.com. I was about to comment that I hadn't even heard of this film, and now I know why. Not even a good actor can save a bad film/poor script.

I'm guessing the poor rating and poor box office performance killed off any chance of a spin-off with any of the characters?

Sometimes it can be fun to watch them try to save a film though, or just decide it's utter rubbish but they are going to be as memorable as possible in it.

Yeah its not great, a rather slow movie, more like maybe the pilot episode to a 'New Mutants' pilot TV show. It tries some horror/mystery elements with all the teen characters playing off of each other in a creepy scientific research institute. The characters and acting are fine though, as I recall.
Truth be told ATJ's Magik is kind of a mean ol' jerk, but she's also dynamic and interesting and playing the role with everything she has. Also she's quite the badass during the end fight, screaming and charging this massive bear-thing.
If you get to see it for free somewhere I'd check it out. 5. 3 is a bit harsh. Maybe a 6?

If I ever do come across it, I'll keep it in mind so I can watch. Thanks! 🙂
I'm suddenly reminded of Marvel's Runaways - kids with superhuman abilities banding together. That's where the similarity ends, but it popped into my head.

Well, now I must just see if I can find that on YouTube!

When that happens, you tend to focus on the actor(s) you like to get through the film. Kudos though to the actors who still commit 100%, even though they realise the film is terrible. 😁

Check out Fox's The Gifted, which is X-Men adjacent. It's only two seasons and its not bad.

Have you ever seen the old film Highlander II? If you haven't... well, I can't really recommend it. 😀 A fine example of executive meddling destroying a film. However, Michael Ironside played General Katana, and he's pretty clearly gone "Frack it, this is terrible, but you are going to remember me!"

s3 of Race Across the World, now in Canada. What a contrast to s2! I was thinking after the last season, I'd love to see them do a race across Australia, but it probably wouldnt work since it is extremely expensive and would heavily rely on the kindness of strangers, but Canada is too. Like in Aust, there is no public transport out of the cities. So maybe an Australian season would work for them. A few eps to go. My favourites never win so far, but I still like the show.

Was in the mood for some Skyeward to keep me entertained while doing housework. I haven't even gotten through half the videos in the playlist I made when I was watching the show.

And now I want to do a rewatch, might have to work one into my TV schedule later this year.

Cape Fear Episode 1

Off to a strong cast. Great casting, solid suspense, and a nice hook at the end of episode 1. I really like the 60s film but am actually mixed on the Scorsese version (a bit overrated IMO)

I am interested to hear as you continue watching whether this works as a series. Please keep up the reviews!

Ah, the 'so bad it's good' kind of film! 😉

Aw, I just checked and it's on a streaming platform I don't have. Gah! Should I ever get it, I'm writing the name of the series down just in case. Appreciate the recommendation!

@hoponlilmama did you see the trailer for Anya Taylor Joy's new show Lucky?
Posted trailer in Coming Soon thread
I just watched it!
ATJ, Timothy Olyphant, Annette Bening, William Fitchner? Sign me up! Just hope it's not overly gory when it comes to the violence, I tend to avoid media that has it.

Buffy Season 1

Picked up on Cordy’s St Elsewhere reference in the pilot this time. Also funny how she’s used as a red herring in Witch in the scene when she threatens Amy (guess it was early enough in the show they could do that).

The Flash (2023)

That doesn't half look like the Batmobile from the old Batman film from the 80s.

That doesn't half look like the laughing bag Joker had on him when he died in that film.

"I'm Batman."

Oh...

That explains it.
