What's your least favorite Whedon piece of work

For me it would have to be 'In Your Eyes' or Doctor Horrible, as I only watched them due to Joss.

I don't blame Joss for Alien: Resurrection, it's fairly well documented that much of his work had no bearing on the end result, it's kind of like blaming him for the crapitude of the original Buffy

Cabin in the Woods is much more of a spoof of horror films than an actual horror film, it's more like a less funny, more analytical version of scary movie

It really isn't for everyone. It's a pastiche on horror movies and far too pleased with itself imo.

Plus there is a deeply nihilistic ending which I hated.

F**k You movie. 😡

I'm a fan of nihilism, but thought the ending was a little cheesey, the last 15 mins of the film didn't fit the priors

I havent seen Cabin in the Woods yet but now I'm really intrigued to see it with all the back & forth about it on here.... and I do really love horror and Joss... how come some dont like it? How is it pretentious?

I have to go with Avengers/Marvel Agents of Shield. While I was never a big fun of Firefly or Dollhouse, at least these series were watchable, and entertaining. You can disagree with the way Whedon deals with the topics of (paid sex, rape, slavery, abuse) in both, but you sort of (cringingly) can see that his PoV comes from being ignorant of the real life situations, not from malice.

Strangely enough, I absolutely loved the Cabin, maybe because the pronounced emphasis on dark irony puts a superficial layer of deliberate absurd over the abuse and violence issues - and because the perpetrators actually get their comeuppance.

Thats said, all JW's Marvel universe projects so far have been absolute rubbish, despite the movie grossing billions of $$ over the world and the series being promoted by Marvel like the best thing after sliced bread.

I suspect 20 years in the future Joss will still be remembered as the guy who created Buffy-verse, with some honorable mention of his forays into sci-fi.

As if I didn't think of that, it's by far the worst, you can so see the lack of Joss in it
Let's see... Dollhouse, the Buffy et al comics (sans Fray which doesnt count) Cabin in the Woods, I didn't like Avengers (personal opinion), and SHIELD.. far too many to choose from. I think then I would say the thing I hate the most, though I am indifferent now to it, are the Buffy comics, as they shit over the series. The thing now which I would say I hate the most is (TIE) between Cabin and SHIELD, for varying reasons.

Cabin is not a horror movie.. it was a failed attempt at a meta-satire in the horror milieu. Proper editing and storytelling could have made it a top notch film, certainly one worth the recognition this turd receives.

The pay-off, like all pay-offs, should have came at or closer to the end, but in his infinite (sarcasm, as it is quite infinite) wisdom, Whedon opted to OPEN with the pay-off, thereby removing any semblance of tension, drama or fear, as the A and B plot were interchanged and more was cared about the "B" plot, and their characters than the event at the Cabin in the Woods. In the end, the overly bloated nihilistic theme was driven home again and again to the point where you just wanted to spark up a doobie yourself and let the end come. It was a trite and contrived attempt at being clever.

And I did all of that without spoilery so booyah!

Sounds like you're describing Man of Steel to me

You cant even begin to compare Man of Steel to Avengers. Man of Steel had ya know.. acting. Actors playing characters instead of caricatures. That is all Whedon seems to know how to do anymore is write caricatures.

Ouch. There's a grain of truth in that criticism of Whedon though methinks.

And Whedon's formerly clever "gotcha!" plot twists and overturning of things etc. has already gotten old for me (he always resorts to it). One trick pony in this sense. It's just a schtick now.

Nah, if you ask me Wonder Woman has to have an intimidating physical presence. More Amazon than not. Eliza doesn't have the size/presence.

She's a great actress without a doubt. I'll never deny that, but still. This sounds like a reach (but you're not being totally serious, I know).

Better than Gal Gadot though dont ya think? :) :D
Jumping on the bandwagon here; Cabin in the Woods. It'd hard to believe the same brain created some brilliant things and this rubbish. I was really looking forward to seeing the movie because of the 'Joss' factor but it was terrible. Almost the worst movie I have ever seen. Only beaten by Grease 2.

Man Of Steel is one of the worst films ever - it couldn't have acting because the script was too awful - the film basically spits on Superman

@Wesley Pryce I didn't know who won the role of Wonder Woman yet (I haven't been following closely). I've never heard of Gal Godot before so I cannot comment on her acting abilities. Looking at her on google images for the first time... here's my two cents. She's beautiful, no doubt. But I'm looking at all of her pictures....and I just don't see Wonder Woman in her. She's too delicate. She's super skinny and an ultra pretty girl in every photo. WW was should be strong, physically intimidating to some degree and just...bigger. Thick in a way.

This Gal Gadot girl better be on some hardcore weight gaining/muscle gaining program. As she is in all of these photos...she won't convince anyone even before she gets the chance to speak. Ben Affleck as Batman (Hate this choice btw) and this girl as Wonder Woman for Dawn of Justice? I'm worried already this is a potential train wreck in the making. You know, when the makers of a movie already make big mistakes in casting, that's a bad sign. Getting off on the wrong foot like that, I wonder, who the hell is in charge of this? They think this girl looks like Wonder Woman?!? She was the best they could come up with? If they have poor judgment for something like that, I begin to wonder if they miss the bigger ideas behind WW too. If I was a fan of the comic heroine I'd be nervous.

Gal Gadot as wonder woman...Hmm. Well, we'll see I guess.... Closing google images now.

yeah, she is pretty and maybe even a good actress,i don't really know, but the point is ,as you said, she doesnt have the look of wonder woman, she too skinny, too petite looking.

I think we saw two different movies. The only issue I had with the movie was the Christ analogies, but I took those with a grain of salt. Also, I am guessing you are referring to the end scene that 'spits on Superman' could that be why the movie is called Man Of Steel and not Superman? Because it was the defining moment in which he becomes Superman?

Nope I mean the whole film, it was awful, and worse than that it was boring... I watched it with three other friends, and we genuinely discussed leaving half way through, it just wasn't a good film, even the story didn't make sense, it was just a standard action film, nothing more nothing less.

Agreed. You can watch the Batman trilogy and understand that the director/writers absolutely GOT the characer of Batman, nalied an interpretation of what makes him tick.

You watch MOS and see somebody trying to copy Nolan's style by having a grim Superman wandering the world, with brooding, and daddy issues, and tormented by his palce in the world.
You know, just like Superman isn't.
All the characters don't actually act, they just emote 'meaningful,' and portentious dialogue out of nowhere. The film is a joke.

The Avengers movie isn't perfect by any means, the plot is a mcguffin (one that was introduced in another movie no less) and most of the film is pretty much getting the cast together.
But every character kind of has an arc to them. Iron Man and self-sacrifice, Captain America and questioning authourity, Thor and his relationship with his brother, Hulk and learning when to lose control.
Even Black Wiow, Hawkeye and Nick Fury get their moments.

There is no comparison imo. And I'm saying that who wanted a good Superman movie an awful damn lot.

I don't like Whedon's works, I think that they are pretentious, increasingly derivative and boring. I like Buffy, the rest sucks in my opinion. Least favorite? Alien: Resurrection, just a special kind of garbage.

I just don't think they understood Superman. I mean, Clark Kent is just going to let Jonathon Kent die to mask his identity? And then later has SUCH a problem with killing Zod? Come on. He allows his father to die for no credible reason and then acts like it's the end of the world when he justifiably kills the biggest terrorist in world history. Zero sense.
