By age 5 I knew what all the grown up words were too. But I got my butt handed to me when I screamed the F word in the store when I dropped something on accident.
I think it should be left up to the parents. My friend has two children (6 and 3) and I was trying to censor myself, but I asked her can I just talk normally and she said sure lol
I think it should be left to the parents too but I don't think the parents should expect anyone around them to censor unless they're asked. As I told the woman at the Taylor concert last year, it's not my job to know what that parent wants the child to hear.
To clarify that... I think if you're talking to a child or talking to the parent with the child next to them I think you should censor yourself according to common sense and the different tears of cursing. Like "shoot," "crap," and "shit." but if you're in the room with a child in it or out in public, I don't see the how the responsibility lies with the person cursing to just magically know that parent doesn't want their kid to ever be exposed to that word.
