Whedon for X-Men?

Buffy supremo is website's choice for third film.

With Bryan Singer abandoning the X-Men film franchise in favour of the new Superman movie, the hunt is on for a director to helm the third mutant feature.

To aid producers in their task, the Cinescope website have held a poll and who should be voters' favourite choice for the task but Buffy, Angel and Firefly creator Joss Whedon.

Whedon captured 35 per cent of the vote, way ahead of Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) – 15 per cent and James Cameron (Titanic) – 14 per cent.

Of course Whedon is no stranger to the X-Men universe – he performed an uncredited rewrite on the first film and is currently the writer of The Astonishing X-Men comic.

A little film called Serenity might however prevent him from accepting the job, should it be offered to him.

We generally post the article for people to read and then if they want to look more at it you put a 'source' like at the bottom 🙂

I like Bryan Singer's X-Men movies, but I think Joss could do even better. I've read the first two issues of Astonishing X-Men, and it's great. Since the next movie is going to center around Pheonix, he would be the perfect director to bring her to film. Please, Joss?

Im not dissing Singer...(completely)..
But Joss is capable of spinning a better yarn. The X-men movies were great but they lacked action. Much needed fight sequences were too far and between. If Joss had done X-men (the first one) I garuntee you we would have seen an elaborate Wolverine/Sabertooth fight sequence that we were denied.

And seeing as how Hugh Jackman will probably not do it without Singer, Just imagine a certain brooding vampire as Wolverine or the obvious James Marsters as Quicksilver...

NOOOOO! Bryan Singer isn't directing the third X-MEN movie? Forget it! I'm no longer interested.

And I sure as hell would not want Whedon to turn Dark Phoenix into another Illyria. I've had enough of the latter.
 
I think Joss would do a great job on the movie, but only if they wait until after Serenity's out, because tright now he's (rightly) putting all his energy into that. For those of you who don't think he'd do a good job, just look at the first couple Astonishing Xmen issues. He's good.

Actually Slayer the Hollywood North rumour story has been up on this board in the WhedonWatch thread for a couple of days now.

So what does that mean? Did I scoop Whedonesque? 🙂
 
Actually Kitty was in both films, each time played by a different actress, Trachtenberg would be a good choice. And James would make a better Gambit than Quicksilver. Anyways, back on the topic, Joss would be great as both a writer and director, he's doing a bang up job on 'Astonishing X-men' and would bring a different perspective to the X-Men. But with Singer backing out, I'm guessing alot of the original cast would be very hesitant to sign back on, especially the three big dogs: Jackman, Berry, and Mckellen. Eh, just replace them with Boreanez, Torres, and Head.
 
Avi Arad talks Spidey, Iron Fist & Ghost Rider

IESB caught up with producer Avi Arad on the set of Fantastic Four. He talked about Iron Fist, the future of Spiderman, Ghost Rider, Brian Singer and who will be at the helm of X-Men 3.

Due to the recent comments of Sam Raimi regarding Spiderman most of us were taking the fact that 3 would be the magic number with a grain of salt.

No one wants to see such a well made franchise come to an end so quickly. Mr. Arad stated that Sam Raimi miscommunicated. He definately foresees more Spiderman movies to come but they like looking at one movie at a time and not beyond.

On the subject of X-Men 3, he also shared a few tidbits. He told the IESB that the reasons behind Brian Singer jumping ship to take the helm of Superman mainly had to do with money. He was simply offered more to do Superman. There wasn't any falling out or bad blood.

Is Joss Whedon being considered as rumored? Arad says yes. If I was a bettin' man by the look that Avi Arad gave leads us to believe that Joss Whedon may indeed be directing X-Men 3…serious gut feeling people.

The Iron Fist project is not a prioirity for Marvel right now. Ray Park is still attached but it is still way down the line due to so many other projects planned at this time.

One more to go. So far as Ghost Rider is concerned. Jon Voight is out as an actor. He will not have a part. But, he has moved into a producing position and remains attached to the project.
