When Pets are Pricks

.and for catching rabbits

One of the reasons I would get a dog is to keep wild rabbits away. They are so diseased and a threat to my house rabbits. My buns hate mice too and get really upset if there is one in the house. Feral rabbits are much smaller than mine. Xander rabbit is just about as big as a jack russel. Similar colouring too! But it was larger jack russel/staffy type crosses who forced him out of his old home - they figured out how to open his cage to "play" with him. It's how he got so badly injured. Anya is about the size of the yappy jack russel cross that was at my last place. Tiny terriers!

I did like some of the fancy crosses that are popular now

I never liked smaller dogs but seeing how EASY my mums mini groodle is makes me think I could handle a pair. I prefer to have 2 to keep each other company if I am away for the day. I am a supporter of designer breeds when they are done right. To me, breeding designer dogs is just like breeding show ponies, they are always bred to fit a purpose. Many who are cashing in on the rescue craze do not understand breeding for purpose. Mums pet was expensive but bloody worth it. Never met such an intelligent little "child". At 2 years old he is better trained than the 18 year old mutt ever was. Completely trustworthy off lead and around the buns, very nice type. I am not one for baby animals, I keep tossing up the idea of getting a retired working dog. Its smell alone would keep the rodents at bay. I was looking at the rescue sites last night and am pretty shocked at the prices they want for problem dogs. I don't really want a dog but it would be a handy addition. @Taake bathtime photos nearly made me enquire about a 9 year old husky type. But then I realised I don't have a bath hahaha. No. I don't want a dog. STOP TEMPING ME ! 😉

My drake is a dick cos he ate my tomatoes. He wants a friend but is a violent rapist so I probably need another boy one. He fell in love with the washing basket and followed my Dad everywhere. He has started sleeping on the patio near the door where he last saw my Dad hahaha.

Spangle is a corgi/collie and that's been a nice cross . I'd have more corgi/ Pembroke corgi hybrids . I would love a Border terrier as well .

I really like labrador/collie crosses .Both lovely breeds . I love Staffys too but they can be a pain .

I heartily recommend mongrols or first cross dogs over pedigree .

I'd never have another Jack Russel but I could be tempted by a Jug 😉 .

As it goes , the masterplan is I never have another dog again 😀 . When my old girls finally die , I'm going to get on the next plane to India . I always wanted loads of dogs and animals , I've done that now and loved it . Now I want a bit of freedom from responsibility before I die to experience new stuff .

Sounds like a plan!

When I get my own dogs, I'm definitely getting mongrels, I don't think I could handle losing another dog early due to breed related problems.
Get yourself a Samoyed!

It really isn't very nice you know HoppyHippy, referring to a female bunny as a Private Rick.

Good thing I was referring to the boy one then 😛

The boy duck figured out how to get through the other gate onto the patio. He is still scared of me but likes being as close as he can to me - on the back doorstep. He pooped all over the only exit.

I'm guessing you don't sit by the open oven very often?
Being sat by the door of the open oven teaching the duck how to read. With a sense of humour like mine you might teach the duck how to read and write English from a recipe book, Duck A La Orange might be fun.

Jenshen the chicken is the prick now. She has discovered her wings and escapes the paddock to roam the entire yard, but Moose the Duck wrings the neck of chickens. So she comes racing up to my door or tries to fly in open windows to avoid him. If she stayed in the chook run then he wouldnt be able to get her!

”Jenshen” lol, gold
Hmm I know full well when pets are pricks, back combing a porcupine, by hand.

I have a Rhode Island Red rooster who is the sweetest lap rooster ever. Except for in the springtime, then he likes to do the cha cha around my feet, and bite me. Sometimes he draws blood. 😬😂

Im seriously regretting the fact that I didn't name him Giles, then I could call him Randy Giles!

Moose the Drake has spring in him! The chickens have all grown back their clipped wings and fly over the fence. Where he is waiting... watching... ready to grab them by their tail feathers and mount them. He cornered Crowly and jammed her head through the lattice today. I throw the chickens back over the fence where they are safe, but I tell them not think I will save them everytime. If they stay where they belong, he cant get them. He is a good guard drake. Squirrel is getting jealous. I want to let them have babies, but the chooks have to die off so the babies can live in the secure shed run.

I might make the chooks a portable secure cage later because they want to dig for grubs in the garden and I'll murder them myself if they get into my compost piles.
