When the Buffy remake is released will you go see it?

Absolutely not. When I was first told, I DID consider it, because hey BUFFY, and I thought that it would at least be novel to see Buffy in theaters. Then I heard Joss' response, and Nicholas Brendon, and Seth Green, and Anthony Stewart Head, and Alyson Hannigan. And I read up on what the movie might have in store. Everything seems wrong. They're wiping out an ENTIRE universe that took 7 years to build, and excuse the newness of me, but without those 7 years, hell 8 years if you include Angel, there wouldn't BE a franchise for Ms. Anderson to even reboot. If the show had never existed, just the original movie with Kristy Swanson, I doubt ANYONE would be like "You know what would really sell? Remaking Buffy the Vampire Slayer!"

Without Joss you would have no Buffy worth being in the theaters, or on any medium for that matter. To add insult to injury, Anderson isn't even going back to high school with this. She's starting with a fresh out of college Buffy... So instead of an EXPLAINABLE

Also, Im totally with BEG on this. Its silly that as a fanbase we`re hollering about a remake when our tv show IS the remake.

Why can't they just use the story and give it a new name? I sure wouldn't be pissed off if a movie about a vampire slayer showed up with similar characters and a different title. I just don't like the feeling of them (in a way) 'rewriting' something I love.

I'd go see it. Maybe not in theaters because honestly, I rarely go to the movie theater anymore. Ticket prices are not kind to my wallet. 😛 But I'm curious about this new one, and I'm also very, very interested in seeing Buffy from the perspective of a woman. Might fix a few problems Joss had with feminism, lol. 😉

on the other hand, I wouldn't go so far as to call our Buffy the "remake" of the original movie. The original movie was still Joss's story, yes, but basically distorted by the studio and almost all parties involved weren't happy with the result. I'd say that in this case it's not a matter of which story technically came first. "Remake", to me, implies that it's an utterly new perspective on an established story. Joss's TV show was a new perspective on his own story, and one that obviously resonated much more with the audience and was closer to his original vision. Our Buffy was the real story he was trying to tell. I'm all for giving the movie a chance, but I don't think it's fair to argue our Buffy was a remake.

Yep, I'm going. Like BEG and many others said, without a remake, we might not even be here. I'll book tickets, go on opening night, drag my girls by the hair if they don't wanna go, but I'm going to see it.

If you're going with VG, I'm so there...
If Katie Cassidy (http://i46.tinypic.com/10ggsbq.jpg + http://i47.tinypic.com/2z908pv.jpg) plays Buffy, then yes. Otherwise, no chance.

Katie Cassidy as Buffy is one of the few things that would actually put me off seeing it... Seriously. Definitely would not be my pick, and from seeing her in both Gossip Girl and A Nightmare on Elm Street I'm fairly certain she doesn't have the acting chops to pull it off.

Someone said earlier in the thread that it's going to be an after college Buffy? That would be awesome because at least they could cast a little bit older and try and get someone with a little bit more talent.

I love how much this has managed to rip the Buffy fan base totally in half. The people that are totally against and the people that don't really mind.

I never heard that. Last I heard, it was gonna be pre-Sunnydale Buffy, which could possibly mean Pike. Either that, or they could focus on the lost time between the movie and the show. I know Buffy was in a psych ward, but there's more time than that between her being Called and showing up in Sunnydale.

As for who to cast, last I heard about that, Vanessa Hudgens turned the role down. There was also talk about that girl from Glee...Heather Morris, is it? The one who plays Brittany, which I just think is wrong on so many levels.

I don't know who I'd cast, but it wouldn't be either of those.

Neither of those thanks! So not right for the role. And that would be an awesome time for the movie to focus on.

Initially I was completely against it but now I'm "Whatev's". If it gives me an excuse to go to New York I ain't gonna complain. 😛

I was initially totally against to. Now it doesn't phase me one bit!
I am not crazy about the idea of this remake, but I'm sure my curiosity will get the best of me and I will see it. If it gets good reviews I will probably see it in theaters with my sister.

I mean, why not see it?

I also read somewhere that it was planned to be set during college, but I can't remember where I saw that. I also thought that Vanessa turning down the role was a rumor, she said she was never even approaced for it.

Anyways, I agree, I think they both of them are terrible choices to play Buffy.

As much as I hate to give them money for this crap, I'm afraid I'll be seeing it anyway just so I can have an opinion on it. Maybe I'll just be downloading it, I don't know.

I kinda like Emma Stone for Buffy...have you seen her new blonde hair for her role as Gwen Stacy in the new Spiderman? 😀

I absolutely adore Emma Stone... but maybe more of a Willow character?

Just want to see what the general consensus on this topic is-

Obviously for me, the answer will be no. No Joss, no Buffy. Not even any of the original cast.. Just no.

Now, if the trailer happens to be good, and people who do go see it say it's good, I MAY consider renting it or downloading it just to check it out. But I will not support it in theaters.

What's everyone else's view?

I'm with you. 🙂 I have no intention of seeing it in theaters if Joss isn't involved. However, the slight exception would be if Joss or some of the original cast members see it and actually praise it. Yet, the general feeling I've been getting is not many are happy that Joss isn't at least involved. Plus, Joss has been involved with Buffy since day 1. So, I'm VERY skeptical at this point at how good it'll be, especially since I really think Buffy doesn't need a reboot.

On that note, long live Buffy's Army!!! 😉

Pay to watch my childhood be raped and murdered? I dont think so

Ah yes, oh how cinema has evolved, from black and White, color, HD/BluRay to 3D, and now cinema will now go on to rewrite history. And Buffy will be the first movie to feature this technology!

I'm sure the only way to get tickets to the new movie will be to swap in our old Buffy box sets, so we can eradicate all traces of the TV series, that is the only way two versions of the same franchise can exist, right?

Ugh jeeze.

To answer the OP's question... I will definitely go see it when it is released. Unless somehow the trailers/cast/plot is so bad it stops me from going. 😛

I'll be there, and if it sucks, I'll say it. If it's great, I'll say it too!
