If you really want to learn to play guitar properly, you eventually have to learn standard tuning. But as an escape for those frustrating moments of practice, sometimes it can be a relief just to play easy with DAGDAD tuning. Almost everything you play, even at random, sounds nice 😀

My husband ordered the song book for OMWF so now I'm gonna have that and song books for LOTR, Star Wars and Evanescence

I'm really excited but also really intimidated about trying to learn sheet music. I'm really comfortable with tabs lol but this makes my brain hurt
 
I used to enjoy playing Matchsticks Of Matchstick Men by Status Quo on a Mandolin several years ago, but I need another one, trouble is they cost a lot these days.
 
Supposedly my grandfather, who was gone before I was born, built and played his own mandolin. I picked up one at a pawn shop and tired learning to play it but it just wasn't my thing. I ended up selling it to my bandmate who immediately excelled at it and now plays it in the band. I took that money and fell into a deal on a banjitar or guitarjo, as they are sometimes called, which is a banjo strung like a regular 6 string guitar. It was perfect fit for me and I also use it in some of our songs.

Here's a pic of the Yamaha I picked up at a thrift store a few weeks ago. Best $25 I've spent in a long time!!

Started actually attempting to learn to read sheet music and broke out the notebook and pencil to actually write it all down to have on hand. It is VERY intimidating, but I'm sure with some patience I'll figure it out. I'm certainly motivated to try!
 
Are you still going with it? I went back to keyboard cos its miles easier hahaha. But I am thinking of trying again with the guitar, my poodles favourite on the radio station is classical guitar. My guitar is acoustic but surely it could be similar with the right fingering? I duno. Do the different type of strings make a big difference to the sound?

My boy bunny used to love every instrument that I played. He would come sit at my feet with everything. Funny old bun he was.

I am! Working on strumming and chord changes. I have both a electric and acoustic guitars, but primarily use the acoustic, and the stings do influence sound. I'm actually thinking of changing the strings on my newest guitar lol. I've been working on playing Where Do We Go From Here from OMWF 🙂 That F chord trips me up though, and there's an F# and Bm in there too, though the Bm isn't too hard.

I was playing clarinet all morning and got too out of breath, but far out, its hard to switch to guitar fingering after clarinet! I can barely feel my fingers now haha. I just need more practice, much more practice! Once I get it, its got, but takes me a while to rearrange my brain.

Hows yours going @CrypticMystic ? Kiddos still loving it? My dogs do not love it lol.

tried to learn to play guitar, can do some chords, played some bass and drums, my favorite guitar players are yngwie malmsteen,steve vai,joe satriani, eddie van halen, jan akkerman, nuno bettencourt and gary moore. My father played a fender and Gibson was mounted on the living room wall.

Doing good! I still can't strum haha not really, but I'm doing better on chord changes. I have a tendency to rush, so working on slowing down.

My youngest has grabbed one of my picks and started trying in her toddler way, to strum when I'm playing. It's adorable.

I imagine that going from clarinet to guitar is hard since your brain and your hands are used to something different! Give yourself grace!

Cute!
Its the C chord that keeps thudding for me! I cant get my middle finger in the right position. I know there are variations to the fingerings but I havent got the memory for it. I had pretty much forgotten everything when I picked it up today. I know more practice in anything will make it better, but clarinet (melody) is more fun and keyboard is less painful! Hah.

Plus I still dont have my head around the basics in guitar to build on. Where as I have my scales for the other instruments and while I can fumble through scales on the guitar I cant translate that to notes in my head or music on a page (yet). I'd really have to commit to get my head around anything more than play along videos but then again that is all I really want to do anyway.

I feel your pain! I need to actually LEARN guitar scales though lol. The problems of being self taught and ADHD...

C chord's not hard for me but I find A chord is. Plus I have hypermobile fingers that like to collapse backwards, messing up my chords.

If you can, getting a beginner's guitar book might be helpful! I also use Justin Guitar online. It's free and I find his explanations are easy to understand.
