So, as some of you probably know, tommorow marks the 10 year anniversary of Buffy's series finale, "Chosen". So I figured this would be a great way to sort of pay tribute. Where were you guys the day that Buffy ended? (If you could remember that far back) Was it a regular day in the life until 8:00? Did you have a party in celebration? Were there tears? Or did you miss the finale altogether?

I was in the 6th grade. I remember like two months before, in my journal, I would write that day's date, and then at the top of the page, I would write (20 more days until the Buffy finale, 14 more days until the Buffy finale, etc, etc). So it was a typical school day for me, and all I could remember was being so excited, and I couldn't wait to get home. I sat down around 7:50, got my snacks, and waited for "Chosen" to air. I remember the final fight being so mesmerizing and cool. I yelled out "Oh my god!" when Anya got split into, (I remember that because my aunt came in my room, "what the hell is going on?! Are you ok?!") And I was in pure shock when Spike burst into flames. All in all, I thought that it was a perfect end to the series when it first aired, and I could have sworn I entered a mini depression for about a couple of weeks. 🙂

What's your story?

Great thread idea 🙂 I never watched Buffy as it aired in the UK (besides S3 & 4), let alone the finale on the day it aired in the US. I'd be able to do that if Buffy aired today though 🙂

I was in Year 6 (6th Grade) as well, not even aware of the Buffy finale. It would have been a regular school day.

I can remember the first time I watched "Chosen" on VHS a bit more clearly though, it was during the summer I was 12 at the time and around midday. I remember feeling emotional when all the Potentials around the world received their power. I remember feeling proud of Anya when Andrew tells Xander how she died. I also remember shedding a little tear during the final shot of Buffy smiling. Still do even today 🙂

I was in Third Year (I think that is the equivalent of Sophmore year in the American system) and it was a very big deal to me. I remember feeling like I really should have been studying for my Junior Cert (a big(ish) state exam in Ireland) but for the whole week I couldn't think of anything but the finale, especially with the previous episode ending with Buffy and Angel kissing. I watched (and taped it to watch again) in my tiny bedroom, on my even tinier 14" tv. The first time around I really loved the ending. That smile on Buffy's face, it just felt so right. My opinion would do a 180 on the episode and its themes, but that smile... I still love that smile and what it meant.

I think the UK got the finale in June, right? Because I'm almost sure that I was in the middle of my A-Levels. I was putting up my exhibition for my art and I remember talking to my best friend at the time about the finale, and that was definitely June.

Anyway, the night the 'Chosen' aired, I was sitting on the floor of my living room, staring at my VCR and trying not to cry because THE DAMN THING DIDN'T TAPE!!!

I didn't see 'Chosen' until about three days later when my friend lent me her tape of the ep.

Thank God I wasn't a part of fandom back then, I never would have escaped the spoilers!!

10 Years Today Since the Airing of "Chosen"

As of today it has been 10 years since the series finale episode of BTVS "Chosen" has aired!

Gosh I feel so old

I was 11 and barely was aware of the show. I might have known the title from the fact that my mom watched the show, but I didn't and had no interest in watching it.

I still love that smile and what it meant.

And the last word of dialogue, the name that elicited that smile, "Spike."

I was right there with you, Miss K. I got just plumb misty eyed

I remember that it had been announced several days before the finale that Spike would be joining the cast of "Angel" for Season 5, which kind of blunted the shock of him burning up.

You should know by now that Kean and I are a package deal. You take on one, you get both. ;)

She was happy he was dead... :D
Hmmmm, May 20th, 10 years ago.....I was 15, just about to turn 16 (It's my birthday on the 23rd of May, people! Mark it in your calendars! 😛 😉 ) So I was in the 11th grade at the time.

The last few seasons of Buffy when they originally aired are all a big blur to me. I guess at that time in my life I was hardly ever home, I was too busy running around being a stupid teenager 😉 I had quit watching all tv shows except Buffy at that point.

I do remember watching Chosen when it aired, and discussing it with a friend the next day. I remember being dissapointed at the time, although I have no clue why. When I watch it now I quite like it.......blah, my memory sucks! haha.

Lyri agrees: You should know by now that Kean and I are a package deal. You take on one, you get both.

I'm not even gonna pursue topic any further

Omg I didn't even get to watch it when it aired. I was 16 and I was hanging out smh. But I had my mom tape it for me. I watched it when I came in. I remember being torn btwn being happy at Buffy and Angels little moment and feeling bad that Spike saw it. And the battle was crazy...that whole scene I was like I wish I was a slayer! When Spike died it was so sad (I didn't know he would be on Angel) and I was like Awwww she does love him! Lol

I was in 5th Grade. At that point I had been watching Buffy with my Dad every week for the last few years. So watching it all end was pretty significant for me. I was so young though, half of the amazing references on the show confused me until I rewatched the entire series in high school.

The finale was pretty awesome in my eyes though.

That moment when I went into school and someone told me that Spike came back to life in the spinoff Angel which up until that point I hadn't even had teh chance to watch, was pretty epic too. haha.

I never understood why they let the cat out of the bag about Spike's return before he even "left." As much as I hated to see him incinerate, it was just a sort of "How are they going to get him back next season?" type of reaction. Of course, with Joss, death is always just a temporary state and at most a minor inconvenience anyhow...

I don't remember where I was when Buffy aired (apart from finishing secondary school) it's series finale but I remember all the hype over it. All I can remember is how desperate I was to see it and then being deeply disappointed that Spikes death was only temporary, I wanted him to die a dignified death.

Anyway I can't believe it's been 10 years and I can honestly say I'm so proud to be fan of it today. I may not watch the show religiously like I used to but to it's still loved 10 years on is something very special. I can't recall many other shows (apart from Angel when it gets to 10 years) that still have a strong fan base.

I was living in Missouri in this tiny little rent house. At the time, my husband was working for Slim Fast and having to drive back and forth to his hometown in Tennessee... Sometimes, to save gas, he would stay with his parents while he worked and then drive home on the weekends. We didn't get the channel that BtVS aired on, but his parents did. My husband happened to be in Tennessee at his parents' house the night the finale aired, and he called me after it was over. He was like "There are two huge deaths, but I'm not going to spoil it and tell you who." LOL I was SO jealous that he got to watch it and I didn't! I didn't get to watch "Chosen" til the Season 7 DVDs came out, and I sobbed as if my heart was broken...

I didn't get into Buffy until 2006, and all I was watching ten years ago was Cartoon Network and the Disney channel, so I probably had no idea the finale was even happening.

I don't remember what I was doing specifically on 20th May 2003, but I was 8 years old and in Year 4 (4th Grade) in school. My grandma had died not long before, but my niece was also born. My favourite TV show at the time was Beyblade. I was probably crapping my pants at the thought of going up to middle school. I was also probably looking up some s**t on the internet because that was all I did even then 😛

I was celebrating my 17th birthday completely unaware of the awesomeness that was airing on TV....by the time the 7th season rolled around I wasn't really keeping up with the show. I was too busy with basketball to keep up with a week night show. I do remember a friend of mine talking about it nonstop the day after. I'm a little jealous of everyone who watched it while it aired!
