Which Buffy Is Your Least Favourite & Why?

Season 5 Buffy onwards is my least favourite because in some episodes such as "Real Me" she comes across as quite bitchy. There is a notable change once Dawn appears on the scene.

@Dora I don't think Season 6 is where Buffy started getting lost, Season 5 was the start of it.

I understand you have very strong feelings about Faith's actions but I'd be cautious about making such a blunt statement as it might be misconstrued. While the body-swap obviously raises issues of bodily consent and violation and can certainly be seen as analogous to rape, to state it so outrightly makes it sound as if you're saying Faith committed an actual, direct sexual assault on Buffy, which is of course not true.
The use of someone's body without their consent is rape Faith is also guilty of rape by deception against Riley.

I'll go with the majority on this one and say Season 7.

She's one of the best characters in anything from seasons 1-5, whilst 6 I think it's a shame they put her through so much, but it is understandable that she goes off the rails.

She died, was pulled out of heaven and then had to rip her way out of her coffin. The life she was put back into was horrendous too. Even aside from the Demons, working a shitty job, barely able to support your daughter who is going off the rails (and to be fair with good reason. Dawn may be whiny, but who wouldn't have a mental breakdown with the shit she goes through.)

I still get everything she does in seasons 6 even if it is more dodgy. (I just think the attraction to Spike comes out of the blue. At no point apart from Intervention did she ever seem like she was attracted to Spike. Hell even Intervnetion more seemed like it was a thank you kiss. She winced when the Buffybot mentioned seeing him naked.)

She obviously found Spike repulsive before S6 because of his personality. James obviously isn't an ugly guy LOL, so I can buy that she would slowly become more attracted to him when she sees his softer side in the latter half of S5 and S6 when he protects Dawn, saves Giles from Vampires etc, but to go from that to she can't stop herself from ****ing him feels a bit "where did that come from?"

Still again I can still see s6 as the Buffy I loved from s1-5 just put through the ringer and broken. It's S7 I think where they make her outwardly nasty and stupid.

As many have mentioned her mocking Chole is just horrible. (Even more so when you consider Buffy's own suicide attempt in Once More With Feeling. You'd think she would be sympathetic out of anyone there?)

Then there's her mocking Spike because he is scared of losing control.

Also I found her unlikable in her treatment of Faith, which is hilarious because Faith is the murderer LOL. Still Faith voices a few perfectly reasonable complaints about Buffy's lets just charge in their plans that have already blinded her friend and killed several young girls and Buffy reacts by hitting her, (hard enough to bruise) storming off, putting all the responsibility on her when she's not prepared, accuses her of wanting to steal her life (when Faith is the ONLY one who says not to throw her out) and laughing at the idea of Spike hitting her.

For all her general Buffy shit it seems she can't see the bigger picture.

What's worse however is that the writers seem unaware of her hypocrisy and stupidity and shill her through Spike in that godawful scene in the bedroom. (They also use Buffy to shill Spike too which just makes them both annoying together.)

Had Buffy later said she was wrong to say that about Chloe then fine, you could maybe chalk that up to her snapping under the pressure, but the way it is it just looks like she was right to mock a young scared girl.

Also her big final moment is kind of let down by the fact that it is Spike who saves the day instead of her.

S3 Buffy, although if you ask me in a week, I may have a different answer. I just binged a YouTuber's reactions to BtVS S3 and it just highlighted how much I don't like her in this season - she's extremely selfish; hiding Angel's return, the way she acts toward Faith pre-Bad Girls, the way she thinks everything revolves around her, and toward the end of the season is her very, very worst - willing to kill Faith for a vampire (no matter how much she luvs him), then willing to give her own life (when she knows the Mayor is planning to destroy the city and/or world) just so her vampy-luver can continue existing, it doesn't get more selfish than that. Yeah, not my favorite Buffy at all!

TOTALLY agree

To be fair to Buffy, she was forced to kill Angel once and that was heart breaking for her, so much so that she ran away and went missing for a whole summer. She gets Angel back and has a second chance, now she is being asked to let him die again. Emotionally she can't deal with that, she already had to deal with the pain of losing him once before because she had no choice, she does have a choice this time. Is Buffy thinking logically? Absolutely not. She's letting her emotions cloud her judgement which is a very human thing to do.

Buffy's basically facing the trolley problem: Does she kill someone else to save her loved one, or does she let her loved one die. If she lets Angel die, then she has to live with the knowledge that she could've saved Angel, she had the opportunity to save Angel, yet she chose to let him die, she chose not to save him. Regret is a terrible thing to have to live with.

Not sure if I've answered this before, but the Buffy that really annoys me is the one who chases after Riley after he gives her an ultimatum. I really dislike Xander's speech and I'm sorta mad at Buffy for buying it, though she's going through a lot of emotional stuff in season 5, so I try to cut her some slack.

Completely agree.
S3 Buffy is the worst for me.....I have mixed feelings on her before S3, and after S3 she gets better and better as a well-rounded person that I respect

Angel Season 5 Buffy.

Re: "Into the woods" Buffy: The way I look at it, is this. Buffy is still like what, 20? Getting into a fight over nothing is what 20 year olds do. To her, it was just a relationship game, she misread the situation, and expected Riley to come back the next day. Xander simply informed her that wasn't the case, that Riley read it as a permanent break-up, and he was leaving town that night, so if she loves him, get at it. People have died because of fights over nothing, so, it works.

Season 7 I find it hard to look past how she behaves at times this season and it's beyond annoying that Buffy and Spike shack up and facilitate/enable/encourage each other's worst traits.

That is my exact sentiment, but sub out "Season 7" for "Season 3", and "Spike" for "Angel" LOL, this dichotomy between fans endlessly fascinates me :D
I think of BtVS as "The Rise and Fall of Buffy" just like I think of Ats as "The Rise and Fall of Angel".

In Season 3, Field Marshall Buffy is the planner and leader of the school and her battle against the Mayor is planned and executed expertly. In Season 7 Generalissimo Buffy is the dictator who could not possibly stay alive without plot Kevlar and a couple of McGuffins in the form of the Scythe and the Medallion. Left to her own devices, she would have been dead a number of times and we see a burned-out, dictatorial Buffy who is definitely past her "best before" date. Season 7 is my least favourite for Buffy.

It wasn't a "fight over nothing". Buffy found out Riley had essentially been cheating on her with vampire whores and was now basically giving her an ultimatum to get over it then and there or he was leaving, alongside trying to blame her for his actions. Buffy even calls him out on this. Riley is not as wholesome as the show tries to make him out to be. He shows "red flag" behaviour in Season 5 and even some in Season 4. Buffy not caving to his ultimatum which is basically "give me a reason to stay or its your fault if I leave" is an empowering moment which is then undermined by Xander describing Riley as "the one who comes along once in a life time".

Briley is an unhealthy relationship, in a different way to Spuffy, but it is still unhealthy. At least Spuffy was honest about how unhealthy it was, Briley likes to masquerade as this wholesome relationship when it's not. Put it this way, if Buffy had caught the helicopter and convinced Riley to stay, then she would feel like she "owes" Riley to make the relationship work, even if she is ultimately unhappy in it, because she would've cost him his chance to re-join the military.

Riley's obsession at having Buffy "need" him would play a major factor in the relationship, and Buffy isn't like that. She's very independent, she's got to be because she has to be emotionally strong to deal with the crap that life throws her way. She can't afford to rely on someone else to come in and save the day because she can't cope with it on her own.

Riley likes the idea of his girlfriend being the slayer, he just can't cope with the reality of what that means. Riley wants to play the protector role but Buffy doesn't need protecting and that really bugs him.

I think of BtVS as "The Rise and Fall of Buffy" just like I think of Ats as "The Rise and Fall of Angel".

In Season 3, Buffy hadn't gone through the events of Season 6, nor did she have the potentials like a millstone around her neck with Kennedy trying to stab her in the back at every opportunity.

I agree you say Buffy organised s student body into an army but it was one battle on one day to stay alive or take down the enemy so others can. Temporary unity is realitively easy plus she had people leading their own units.
Season seven she an army with a lot of personal demons. Some of them she knows well, some are changing, some she thinks she knows but shock her, some she knows a little, some are strangers whom she doesn't really have time or space to get to know. Some of her army hate each other or have jealousies, issues or distrust of each other. Anya resents her, Kennedy thinks she'd make a better leader, Giles and Robin act behind her back having shoveled responsibility onto her, Faith and her have a ton of baggage. It's a very different situation. She's trying to keep a disperate group together while most of them bitch at her when they think she messes up. A lot are very young and immature and she's not that much older plus barely over depression.
