Maybe it's the fact that I don't watch that much TV, but I was never wowed by how progressive Buffy is: OMWF (it's a musical, I don't like musicals and there are thousands of them ), The Body (great episode but didn't seem revolutionary), Hush (also great and different, but that doesn't mean anything to me).
As for the feminism thing, when I first watched Buffy I could barely get through one episode without getting pissed off to the point of giving up on the show in its entirety. All because of the sexist stereotypes and whatnot. Buffy, in particular, upset me. When I found out that the show was 'feminist' I was like: why, because it has a female lead? I now know in what ways the show is supposed to be feminist, but I don't really see it. I don't even think it breaks gender roles. That might be, in part, because I'm from a younger generation, but I never found the show empowering (except for Chosen, and, in retrospect, that finale was also the opposite of empowering). I mean, the amount of crying she does over guys...so irritating. Lilah and Willow were always the more empowering females to me,
I don't connect with the Buffy characters, lots of them annoy me; I don't connect with the stories; as someone who was a teen a few years ago and as someone who is a young adult now, I don't understand how the show is relatable to this age group; and BtVS always seemed to lack depth imo.
I also never thought that she show kept things fresh. I thought it changed tone a lot, but Angel was more shocking and exciting.
