Okay, I know I already posted in this thread saying that I like both Angel and Buffy equally, but in different ways....but I changed my mind! I just watched seasons 4 and 5 of Angel (I hadn't seen them previously.) I now like Angel WAY more than Buffy, just because the plots seem more interesting and the characters more developed.

This is a toughy. I said Angel, just slightly better. I wonder if there's a bit of a gender split or age factor involved here?

Do more females prefer Buffy? Seems like it. I'm a guy, if there was some doubt, lol.

There are too many factors to consider...I thought Angel was bland and less interesting visually, thematically"”at first. But it grew tremendously during its run. Buffy was always a better looking show, better art direction. Angel was more adventurous, innovative with the fight choreogrphy. Angel was more expansive in its settings, scope"”more spread out.

I loved Buffy, but I thought it kind of outgrew its setting by the end of season five. It got more pointless and claustrophobic for all the Scoobs to be stuck there in Sunnydale. By 7, it was ridiculously cramped, all cooped up there in Buffy's house.

Angel got more expansive as it moved along. Going from Angel's little crap office to the Hyperion and Pylea to WR&H. Roaming around LA. And it seemed like more flashbacks to Europe, not sure...

I dunno, just enjoyed the themes in Angel a bit more, though I love Buffy and her Scoobs. Buffy obviously has a much, much, much larger impact on the culture...

For all the same reasons. I can't say I love Angel WAY more than Buffy, but I do have a softer spot for it. I love them both, but.....Angel just speaks to me more.
How dare you make me choose between my two favorite shows of all time. Nope, I couldn't do it. I love them both equally. Angel taps into that darker side we all have and really explores human emotion. Buffy, on the other hand, signifies female empowerment and trying to make it in a crazy world. Two awesome shows. So yes, it's a tie. 🙂

I was never a huge fan of Angel to start with... But it did grow on my... I'll always be a bigger BtVS fan though :cheerlead

I loved both shows but for me I will always like Buffy more. It's just gotbetter storylines and characters. Although Angel's my fave character I liked him better on Buffy.

i like both the shows but i like buffy a bit more... i like the storyline of the show and i think angel is awesome but buffy is legendary

I liked Buffy a lot more than Angel, thus I found Angel a bit boring sometimes....

yeah i agree... it took me a while to get into angel... i think it is awesome but some episodes are a bit boring.. every buffy episode rocks!!!

I keep seeing this poll and shying away from it because I just can't decide. So why don't you just say you like them both equally, I hear you cry. Because out of some dodgy loyalty thing I really wanted to say that I liked Buffy a little better. I didn't even start watching Angel until both series had finished and I'd watched every Buffy ep 5 or 6 times. Well, I actually tuned in to it for the end of season 2 and the Pylea arc, which I thought stupid at the time, and put me off Angel until it was over and I needed fresh 'versefix.

Truth is I like different things about both that completely balance the ledger and come together to produce one glorious whole. I get romance (not only "love story" romance but the herioc adventure against all kinds of hellspawn romance), metaphore based depth, complex relationships, and lightness and fun from Buffy. I don't get how anyone can think that Angel is funnier than Buffy or that the humor is forced on Buffy because it's always exceptionally wittily (is that even a word? If not, Oxford dictionary better get on it right away.) written and perfectly delivered by the actors.

From Angel I get darker themes and characters, better action in terms of choreography and performance, a more masculine we-can-be-heroes type romance, and the battles are often more ones of an internal or humanist nature.

So, there. I come down firmly on the fence.

I love Angel a lot more than Buffy. It was funnier than Buffy. The themes are more mature and complex. Angel's story was always the most interesting to me. I think Buffy was sorta boring.

yeah, i agree!
While I like both shows, Buffy will always hold a place as my most favorite show.

I did not watch Angel until season four. I was never an Angel fan, and the first couple of eps in season one did not thrill me, so I stopped watching. Then, by 'fate' 🙂, my roommate that was chosen to live with me watched Angel, but never like Buffy. After two years of living together, we had both switched each other onto the other show.

I like both, but I like Buffy more.

It took me a while to get into Angel and it was particularly because of Doyle that I did and when I did, they killed him off. Damn. 🙁

I like Angel alot more than Buffy. That is because I started to watch Angel before I really got into Buffy. And I haven't quite gotten into Buffy yet. You see, here where I live, Buffy usually goes on tv veery late, and so it's very seldom that I actually get to see a full episode. And also, I used to think that Buffy was a little silly. I mean; compared to the dark atmosphere in Angel. So, I prefer Angel over Buffy. But I am planning to buy all the seasons of Buffy very soon. 😉

I voted Both but Buffy more.

I think it's because I started out watching Buffy and it's the first programme like this that I ever watched. My mum made me watch it as I liked the X-Files but I was never into them like Buffy! I just found Buffy more interesting.

I sort of stopped watching Angel in Season 4 the whole Connor story line annoyed me, but I have seen the full series now! Still Buffy will always be number 1 for me.

I put "I liked both - Buffy a bit more than Angel though." Buffy for one was THE original buffy-verse show, which earns it points (and more bangel than ATS, lol😉) but I also found it a lot more light-hearted than Angel. Less doom and gloomy episodes I guess, and although they had some pretty heavy issues, they somehow managed to sneak it the funnies here and there under the main plot. I really do love both shows though, I could sit here for hours and talk about things I like more with one and vice versa. They both were awesome with great actors, writers, and storylines. But still, Buffy is just.... Buffy!

Both equally, for me. Despite the fact they are technically two shows i look at them as one complete story and i enjoy them both immensely.

I have to go with the parent series (BtVS) over its spin-off (Angel)

Angel just seems so forced with the kooky law firm and the bar guy with the green skin and horns.
The only good thing about Angel over its parent show? More Cordelia!

Depends what Im watching. I go through phases of preferring Angel if Im watching it, or have watched it recently. But if I watch Buffy I prefer it.

So I guess equal. I think.

Hmmm....question too hard!

I absolutely adore Buffy. I started watching it back at the time of the first season, but no matter how many times I've watched the various seasons and individual episodes I never tire of it and constantly find something new I hadn't previously been aware of.

On the other hand, I've always tended to struggle with Angel. I've seen most or all of the episodes from the first four seasons, some more than once, although nothing from season five. It's a great show but for some reason it's never captured my imagination on an emotional level the way Buffy has.

There are other shows I enjoy watching more than Angel, but nothing beats Buffy for me.
